CUBA - It’s so HOT, it’s Old School Cool! WOW! Want to talk about one of the hottest destinations on a travelers bucket list these days? Let’s Talk about CUBA! From the lively streets, the noteworthy nightlife, and the unmistakable aromas of rum, hand-rolled cigars, and tropical papaya. The mystery that Cuba has been the forbidden fruit can finally be answered. But first, we want to prepare you before you go.

Never been to Cuba? From dual currencies to Visa stipulations, Cuba can be confusing for first timers. We want you to avoid costly pitfalls and prepare properly beginning with this article.

• You MUST have a passport! - You MUST have a passport valid for 6 months past your return is recommended. Even if you are taking a cruise round trip from the same US port.

• Visas - US citizens need to obtain a tourist card/ traveler VISA. No, not the credit card. Rather a Cuban Government issued visa that allows you into their country. If you are going with a tour company or cruise line they will often help you obtain this while on the trip.

• How Can I get in? There are still 12 main way Americans can visit Cuba. The most common is the people-to-people experience, however photography, media, teaching, and other various reasons can get you in... and out. You must be prepared to show your travel documentation upon exit that backs up your experience.

• Travel planning & preparedness - The infrastructure may not be what you are prepared for. We recommend traveling with a notable tour company or cruise line because all of the hotels and resorts may not be exactly what you were imagining.

• Currency: There are two currencies- the Peso and the CUC. Check the exchange rate before you go and plan your exchange wisely. And be prepared to pay cash almost everywhere you go. Credit cards have only just begun being accepted ATM’s are available but are few and far between!

• Bring foreign currency to exchange foreign currency, huh? - Cuba charges a 10 percent “tax” on the United States dollar, so it is a good idea to take Euros or British Pounds for the best exchange rate in Cuba rather than the United States Dollar.

• Lost Connections? Want to take your family on a vacation that gets their head out of their mobile devices? Cuba is your destination! Consider this your smart phone detox. Even if you want to pay for roaming charges, many times there is no ability to post on Facebook, Instagram or even text. Some larger towns do have wi-fi hot spots, but be prepared to go back a decade in internet speed.

• Final and most important tip: Go NOW, Go Educated, Go prepared, Go and have fun... but just GO! We are more than happy to help you get past every single one of these hurdles so you may have an incredible trip to Cuba!

Rum to retro cars — Cuba has a back-in-time appeal you will not want to miss!

When asked to put a spotlight on one of my clients, there was no comparison to whose story I wanted to share. Her amazing experience put me through tests to book, but the outcome was well worth it to her and to me sending her on a trip of a lifetime. Here is the picture Marcia painted for me in her own words…

“Swaying palm trees, lazing on a beach is what most people thought of when I told them I was going to the French Polynesia. The words freighter, hiking and archaeological sites brought about stunned looks, but

traveling to the remote Marquesas’ islands on the Aranui5, a combination freight and cruise ship was an incredible journey to this south pacific paradise.

No broadway reviews, magicians or midnight buffets for this adventurer. A nice cabin, interesting lectures and cultural programs were on board. While freight was loaded and unloaded in ports, passengers were taken to historic sites, hiking in mountains and forests and village visits, cultural singing and dance programs weren’t just for the tourists. Local families came to the performances too so that the next generation could learn about their rich and significant heritage and customs. Spotting wildlife such as dolphins, flying fish, sharks, rays and birds also was a highlight.

This is not a trip for everyone. With adventure travel, an open mind, flexibility and a sense of humor are essential things to pack. The Aranui5 rewards you with a great crew, good food and yes some swaying palms and the chance to laze on a beach.”

Travel Smart: Know the Legends - Devils Tower

Roseborough Travel is proud sponsors of the Females About

Business - FAB GALA and a Cruise Giveaway with Azamara

Club CruisesThis event is raising scholarship funds for women

in Volusia County for continuing education.

When I travel I love to learn about the legends and lure about a specific destination. Have you ever seen the movie “A Close Encounter of a Third Kind”? The Steven Spielberg movie about alien encounters just happens to be going into its 40th anniversary this year.Want to know why I brought it up? We will be going to have our own close encounter on our upcoming trip to Devils Tower this June.If you have never been to Devil’s Tower in Wyoming just outside of Yellowstone National Park you may find the legend very interesting. It comes with great Native American stories around this rock formation. The story goes something like this. One day two young Indian boys ran off and were lost. When they became tired they slept, hungry they would hunt, and soon enough four days had passed without their family coming to get them. They began feeling as if something or someone was following them. And something was… it was a big, huge, monstrous bear named Mato. The bear was hungry and was going to eat the boys. Of course, what is any hungry bear to do? The boys only could do one thing in this moment, as they knew their bows weren’t strong enough to kill the bear and their legs weren’t fast enough to outrun him- they prayed. They called upon Wakan Tanka, their Creator: “Tunkashila, Grandfather- save us.” And at that moment their earth began to rumble and shake. And the land they were standing on began to rise. It rose up and up and up, over a thousand feet in the air to raise the boys out of harm’s way from Mato the bear. And the bear began to charge. The rock kept rising and the bear began to climb the rock as long as he could. Out of anger and frustration for not being able to snatch his prey he began to claw the rock with his monstrous claws. And the boys stayed safe at the top of Devils tower until the bear tired of his efforts. Later an eagle would come to the boys rescue and bring them back to their village.

If you look at the pictures of this gorgeous natural wonder you will see how the Native’s came up with this legend.Do you want to know more about Devils Tower? Join us March 22nd at the Aging Tree to hear the rest of the story about this trip including Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore & Grand Tetons. Or join the trip today to tell a story of your own.

Unesco World Heritage Site and Cambodia's stunningly beautiful, ornate, and most iconic temple- Angkor Wat

Its name means the "City of Temples" and this temple complex known as Angkor Wat is located in present day Siem Reap, Cambodia. This stunning display of architecture, religion and culture are undoubtedly the heart and soul of Cambodia, and without question why. Pure size alone is enough to make it a prideful symbol and draw for tourists alike, but the fine details of the sandstone blocks that were quarried from the "holy mountain" more than 30 miles away, floated down the river on rafts and consuming thousands upon thousands of workers and even animals to build are clearly the labor of love and passion put into this world wonder.

Want to visit Angkor Wat? -Visitors are asked to dress modestly, as the temples of Angkor represent a sacred religious site.-Please note: You may not enter the highest level of Angkor Wat without upper arms covered and shorts to the knees.

What about the rest of the trip?

Ho Chi Minh City- In Vietnam’s largest city, fast-paced urban life and culture is set against a backdrop of French Colonial architecture.

Visit The Old Quarter (Hanoi)A place where you can browse for silk, bamboo products, lanterns and other unique handicrafts in this colorful and bustling 36-street marketplace.

Get A Buddhist BlessingEnjoy an exclusive opportunity to visit a monastery in Cambodia and receive a specialBuddhist blessing.

Experience the Floating MarketsAlong the Mekong river, see traditional floating markets filled with a variety of local produce and other regional goods.

Ama Waterways has an incredible Mekong cruise takes guests to explore all of the natural wonders and cultural treasures that Vietnam and Cambodia have to offer including Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Siem Reap, and Ho Chi Minh City. The culture, architecture, food, religion, and the people are really what one would go to Vietnam and Cambodia for. Of course if one is a nature lover you would find it in the water, the greenery, vegetables and fruits, and the bird life.

At AmaWaterways, our focus is on continually finding ways to give our guests more – more memorable experiences, more space, and more choices. Our cruise on the Mekong River offers exclusive excursions that allow guests to discover a world of enlightening cultural experiences.

Rolling with the punches... As I write this article I am sitting in my hotel room in Vik, Iceland. We are grounded due to bad weather aka gale force winds that have closed all of the roads in Iceland today. I am listening to my favorite band Kaleo (a band from Iceland) whose music video was filmed live on Fjallsalon glacier. I think this is fitting because today we were supposed to be taking a 3 hour drive to Vatnajokull National Park today, Europe’s largest national park in order to experience the highest mountains and largest glaciers. But myself and 22 of my amazing Roseborough Explorers are rolling with the punches.

You want to know what is the funny part? Whenever something like this happens on a trip, it tends to make for a great story. Because we have already had such a grand adventure. We have visited the site of E15 that massive volcano that in 2010 grounded

thousands of flights and caused worldwide chaos. We visited multiple famous waterfalls including a double cascading waterfall -Gullfoss knows for the Golden Hue it sets off. We also witnessed Geysir, home of geysers that gush more often than Old Faithful herself-

going every 10-15 minutes.

An adventurous handful of us took a crazy slippery walk behind Seljalandsfoss waterfall where there was ice, no rails, and little pathways. But the views were breathtaking! And even fewer of us made it up a 450 icy staircase hike to see the top of Skogafoss Waterfall. And maybe one of the best views in town- we got to see Reynisfjara, the black volcanic sand beach surrounded by basalt columns and cliffs with treacherous gushing waters rushing in from the background.

Finally, the most adventurous thing we may have done thus far has been the food we have tried. Have you ever heard of Hakarl? It is putrefied shark meat. You read that right. It is greenlanders shark that has no kidneys so it is poisonous... so the Vikings have figured out a way to eat it by first digging a hole in the ground, burying it, letting it rot for a few weeks, drying it out, then eating it. After wards we took a shot of the local liquor “black death”. I am even more proud to say that celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey couldn’t stomach this, but all of our explorers who tried it could. Our group is a bunch of Rock Stars! I am proud to say we have all survived! And on we go... Now are you ready to be a Roseborough Explorer?

So, yes, today we may be grounded in our hotel room, but we sure as heck have led an amazing adventure so far.

Amanda’s Amazing Adventures

Iceland: So COLD its HOT!This year Iceland has quickly become one of the top 10 destinations in the world to travel. From the short (only 5.5 hour) flight from New York City’s JFK airport to the ease of getting around US travelers can confidently travel to Iceland, get around while speaking English everywhere, drive cars on the same side of the road we are used to, and use credit cards (including AMEX and Discover- as long as you have a chip) almost everywhere. Next positive, there is WIFI so many places you can easily stay connected.

So what is there to do and see in Iceland?Scenery galore! From the black sand beaches to the double tiered waterfalls, geyser basins, glaciers, national parks, free roaming horses, and so much more there is surely something for everyone.

-Glacier Cave Tours- The ice caves are a long time in the making. Each fall, after the meltwater of spring has begun to freeze, local guides from the area hunt for new ice caves. This is why the location of the caves change every year and every ice cave is unique and newly formed! The structure and condition of the caves can vary greatly each year. These are extraordinary and beautiful ways to experience Iceland.

- Geysirs Hot Springs- Geysir, meaning “to gush” a favorite stop along the Golden Circle Route is the highly active hot spring area with boiling mud pits and exploding geysers that are more faithful than Old Faithful herself- bursting every 10-15 minutes.

- Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall) an iconic waterfall fed by Iceland´s second biggest glacier, the Langjökull. It has the most spectacular views of the forces of untouched nature and gushing water. The highlight is on a sunny day you can experience the beauty of a spectacular golden hue over the shimmering rainbow over the falls.

- Blue Lagoon- Relax and recharge in the soothing, milky blue geothermal spa waters of the Blue Lagoon and experience Iceland’s most famous attraction. With spa therapy, swim up bar, and a lovely cafe you will have an amazing time... just remember to plan ahead- reservations are mandatory.

CCathy’s ornerOver the years I have had the pleasure of working with Bob and Vicki who LOVE all-inclusive resorts. They have been to various resorts in the Caribbean and their personal favorite vacation was for Bob’s 72nd birthday last May - they flew to Nassau and stayed for a week at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort & Offshore Island

Bob and Vicki were greeted at the airport with smiling faces and transferred to their exotic hideaway. Their butler “Dante” was there to assist their every whim. Bob and Vicki’s suite was a swim-up Crystal Lagoon butler suite featuring direct pool access from their patio. Dante made sure that everyone knew that they were celebrating Bob’s birthday week!! By decorating their suite, birthday cake and treats in their suite. Bob and Vicki were able to enjoy a catamaran cruise and as a special surprise they indulged in a romantic couples massage - which Vicki say’s was pure bliss!!!

The entertainment at the resort was amazing - they really enjoyed visiting the Duke and Duchess Piano bar nightly and then just relaxing in front of one the several romantic fire pit settings along the beach. The food was incredible - they were able to choose from 10 different restaurants from Casanova, or Gordon’s on the Pier to just having a hamburger by the pool.

You don’t have to be young honeymooners to enjoy this destination - at Sandals love is all you need!!!!

Bretta’s Britain and BeyondI so enjoy putting together and help planning amazing itineraries for my clients and sending them to faraway places for the very first time. What I love even more is when they come in and sees me on their return, tell me all about it and show me their pictures so I can live the experience through their eyes.

Their enthusiasm is so infectious! Last year I sent my client Shannon and her friend on a dream trip to Australia and New Zealand staying in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. We booked it through “GoWay” and quoting her this is how she

described their adventure.

“We had a remarkable time, the trip was beautifully organized, accommodations & transportation were great and we got a lot of bang

for our buck! Both of us learned that we would much rather be off the beaten path than in a metropolitan area. All of our top moments were when we spent time in nature, with animals or venturing into old parts of town.”

Although she enjoyed the buzz of Sydney city and night life, the highlights of her trip was feeding the kangaroos at Taranga Zoo, cuddling a koala on Phillip Island and watching the “Penguin Parade” as they battled the surf and made their way to the dune burrows. Auckland “The City of Sails” was fascinating in another way with its mixture of Polynesian and European influences, the Maori people’s cultures, the rainforests and waterfalls and the black sandy beaches.

This is definitely a destination on my bucket list to visit and explore!

AlaskaSee the wonders of the Great Land: Alaska is a spectacular land shaped by epic geologic forces- truly wilderness at its greatness. Here you can still escape civilization and witness the grandeur of nature unfolding around you. From the twisting, narrow fjords to magical destinations like Glacier Bay National Park, you will experience nature in pure form. Have you ever heard icebergs calving? It is when the glaciers that tower over the sea hear the crack, crash, and crumble in blocks the size of your house. The extraordinary sound and visual effect of this is one you will not want to miss. In the calm waters below, whales gulp vast mouthfuls of tiny plankton before blasting their spouts of spray as they surface. While visiting Alaska you will want to take in some of the beautiful scenery. Ketchikan is known for their totem poles of native tribes that maintain their ancient traditions to this day. Skagway, once known as the “Gateway to the Klondike” is filled with lively and historic saloons, trading posts, and railroad that can take you into the Yukon Territory. Denali is quite possibly the best part of this destination. The big red bow on top of the beautiful gift bundle. Denali is the national park that is best reached by Dome Car Train. The vast wilderness of the state’s interior where you can pan for gold, cast a line into icy lakes and rivers, or spot moose, bald eagles and bears on a mountain hike, it’s the ultimate Alaska experience giving you yet another way to see the wonders of the Great Land!

Follow in the footsteps of intrepid explorers as you sail through unparalleled landscapes of grand glaciers, stunning fjords, and rare wildlife sightings as you learn the Arctic culture and its fascinating people.

FAQ: Where exactly is the Northwest Passage?

The Northwest Passage is a historical sea passage of the North American continent. It is a series of waterways north of the Arctic Circle that link the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, from Greenland through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and onwards into the Beaufort Sea, originally explored as a shorter trade route between Europe and Asia.

In August/September 2016, Crystal Cruises was the first luxury cruise line to traverse the Northwest Passage with a group of more than 1000 guests aboard – the largest group of travelers to traverse the passage.

SINCE THIS IS AN EXPEDITION-STYLE CRUISE, WILL CRYSTAL BE WORKING WITH ANY RESEARCHERS, SCIENTISTS, WRITERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, OR OTHER EXPERT EXPLORERS AS A PART OF THE VOYAGE?On board Crystal Serenity, the experts from Arctic Kingdom, expedition team, will offer enrichment throughout the passage. These experts will lecture on a variety of topics -- from the history of the Northwest Passage and wildlife (including polar bears, birds and marine mammals of the area) to modern Inuit culture. In addition, they will conduct seminars and workshops and be active participants in the voyage, giving all guests an opportunity to interact with them directly. Prominent luminaries in exploration, science, and/or politics will also join parts of the expedition, giving additional insights to the enrichment program. Accomplished wildlife and landscape photographers will also be on board, offering lectures and tips for all guests. For additional fees, guests can join specialized hands-on photo workshops and seminars and photography-focused Crystal Adventure Shore Excursions. A local Arctic guide will also be on board to guide the Expedition Leader and onboard management team on Inuit traditions, and to provide guest lectures with insight into the Inuit community.

Northwest PassageVOYAGE TO THE TOP OF THE WORLD THROUGH MAJESTIC WATERWAYS, SPECTACULAR GLACIERS, AND TOWERING FJORDS... WHERE NATURE IS TRULY WILD AND LANDSCAPES ARE ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING.
