8,500,000 – The Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation and the organization have donated more than $8.5 million to local organizations since 1993.

1,600,000 – Our corporate partners have teamed up with the Orioles to raise over $1.6 million this season.

450,000 – Organizations have raised more than $450,000 through the team’s High Five Fundraising Program since 2005.

20,000 – More than 20,000 children received free tickets, hats, shirts and snacks as part of the OriolesREACH Ticket and Gameday Experience Program since 2006.

The Orioles have long recognized the value ofsupport from the community and believe it iscritical for the organization to give back bybeing involved in local programs andinitiatives. Through OriolesREACH, the team“reaches out” to our community to bring thefun and excitement of Orioles Baseball directlyto fans, and to help our neighbors improvetheir daily lives. In addition to partnering withexisting charities and organizations, theOrioles have also created several initiatives ofour own under the current ownership group.This book serves as a brief summary of some ofthose efforts undertaken at the ballpark andthroughout the community over the past year.

The Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundationand the Baltimore Orioles, Inc., support manycivic and charitable organizations with thegoal of enriching the lives of fans in thecommunity. Orioles Wives

The Orioles Wives each year participate ina variety of events and team with variouslocal organizations to raise money andbuild awareness for a range of causes.One example was their partnership lastSeptember with OriolesREACH and severalnon-profit organizations and charities tohost a week of silent auctions. Proceedstotaled nearly $80,000 and benefited theBelanger-Federico-Pitterich Foundation, St.Vincent’s Home for neglected and abusedchildren, The Family Crisis Center, TheRonald McDonald House, the USO, and theJW Fund.

Oriole AdvocatesFounded 1960

Through programs and events like theCardboard to Leather baseball equipmentcollection and the Annual 5K Home Runand Fun Walk, the Oriole Advocatesvolunteer group works with the BaltimoreOrioles organization to help foster a loveof baseball and improve the lives of areachildren. The partnership dates backnearly 50 years and today includes morethan 100 volunteers who’ve helped raisemore than $500,000 while working tire-lessly to touch the lives of thousands ofyoung fans.

Each year, the generosity and efforts ofour corporate partners help the Oriolesreach out to even more people. Thisseason, the Orioles and Verizon Wirelessteamed up to raise $10,000 for HopeLine,a domestic violence prevention programbenefiting House of Ruth, a Baltimore-based domestic violence shelter. CareFirstBlue Cross Blue Shield will donate$25,000 through the K’s for Kids Programto the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Program.Kelly Insurance Group has steppedforward to donate $2,000 for everyOrioles save to benefit Shock Trauma atthe University of Maryland MedicalCenter. Last season’s effort raised$70,000. And Giant Food, with theirTriple Winner cards, will make a $1.5million donation to the Children’s CancerFoundation.

On Sunday, May 6th, fans were invited to bring their old cell phones to OriolePark to donate to HopeLine, a domestic violence prevention program. TheOrioles and Verizon Wireless each donated $5 for every phone to theHouse of Ruth, a Baltimore-based domestic violence shelter, raising morethan $10,000.

Youth Baseball Clinics

On April 30, the Orioles, incollaboration with the Cal Ripken, Sr.Foundation, hosted 50 youth from theBaltimore RBI League for a baseball clinicat Camden Yards. Kids participated indrills, enjoyed a pizza party, andexperienced the once-in-a-lifetime chanceto learn and play the game they love ontheir favorite Major League field.

On June 9, over 300 kids from the Orioles-sponsored RBI program and city-wideLittle Leagues participated in a clinicheld at Carroll Park. Orioles shortstopMiguel Tejada, manager Dave Trembleyand coach Sam Mejias, along with severalformer Orioles players, led instructionalsessions on hitting, fielding andbaserunning, helping to boost theconfidence and morale of the children.

Reviving Baseball in the Inner City(RBI) Program

The Reviving Baseball in the Inner CityProgram encourages teens to stay inschool and helps them develop self-esteem while learning the skills andenjoyment of baseball. The program is anational Major League Baseball initiativeadministered and sponsored locally by theOrioles. Approximately 450 teenagers inBaltimore have participated in the leaguethe past two seasons.

Summer Reading Program

The Orioles Summer Reading Program,presented by Bank of America, providesincentives to over 1,000 children whoparticipate in the program. In 2006,children were encouraged to read fortwenty-minute sessions each day in Julyto receive two complimentary tickets to agame and a Reading All-Stars T-shirt.Select participants were also chosen toread with Orioles second baseman BrianRoberts prior to a game in August.

organization to each child. The 2006event marked the 28th year the Orioleshave held a holiday party for childrenfrom economically disadvantaged areasin Baltimore, with a different schoolbeing selected each year.

Salvation Army Food Basket andAngel Tree

Each year, Orioles front office employeesdonate non-perishable food items fordonation to the Salvation Army FoodBasket at Thanksgiving. During theChristmas season, employees purchasegifts for underprivileged children as partof the Salvation Army’s Angel Treeprogram.

Player and Bird Appearances

One of the greatest examples of theOrioles reaching out into the communityis when Orioles players themselvesappear all over town. Even the OriolesBird “flew” to over 200 destinationsin the community in 2006. This pastyear, fans had the opportunity to meettheir favorite players at locationsthroughout the region, including theSports Legends Museum, ESPN Zone,Baltimore Visitors Center, local areamalls, and many other stops.

Brian’s Baseball Bash

On August 20, 2006, second basemanBrian Roberts hosted Brian’s BaseballBash at the ESPN Zone in the InnerHarbor to benefit the University ofMaryland Hospital for Children. Over$130,000 was raised for the hospitalthrough ticket sales, live and silentauctions, sponsorships and donations.Many Orioles players attended the event,signing autographs and taking photoswith fans. The Orioles also donated$10,000 to provide tickets to patientsand their families to attend the event.This year’s event will take place onSunday, August 26.

Children’s Christmas Party atESPN Zone

Last December, Orioles second basemanBrian Roberts, outfielder Jay Gibbons,third baseman Melvin Mora and formerplayers Rick Dempsey, Scott McGregorand Dave Johnson hosted 90 firstthrough third graders from The BarclaySchool as part of the Orioles’ AnnualChildren’s Christmas Party. The eventwas held at the ESPN Zone in the InnerHarbor. Players served lunch, playedgames with and signed autographs forthe students. Dempsey played SantaClaus, delivering gifts from the

Negro League Recognition andBaltimore Black Sox Celebration

This year, the Orioles participated in aseries of events paying tribute to NegroLeague teams and players, including theBaltimore Black Sox franchise and BlackSox player Herbert “Rap” Dixon.

On June 8, a monument to honor Dixonwas unveiled at Midland Cemetery in

Swatara Township near Harrisburg,Pennsylvania. The Orioles contributedfinancial support to the non-profitFriends of Midland for the refurbishmentof the cemetery, and former Orioles PaulBlair and Curt Motton attended the event.

The organization also provided financialsupport to the nation’s largest gatheringof Negro League authors, researchersand historians at the 10th Annual JerryMalloy Negro League Conference inPortsmouth, Virginia.

And on September 6, the Orioles willcelebrate the 75th anniversary of theBaltimore Black Sox’ 1932 season. Thatyear, the Sox were credited with achampionship but never received theproper recognition since their leaguefolded midseason. Current Oriolesplayers and coaches will wear 1932Baltimore Black Sox replica uniformsduring the game.

A day at Oriole Park is truly a magical experience. And every homestand, the Orioleswelcome special individuals and community groups to Camden Yards to demonstrate thepower of Orioles Baseball first-hand.

OriolesREACH Ticket andGameday Experience Program

One of the most successful OriolesREACH initiatives is the OriolesREACH Ticket andGameday Experience Program. Over 10,000 children from disadvantaged areas in theregion are able to attend an Orioles game for free each season thanks to theOriolesREACH ticket program – a program that provides game tickets, transportationto and from the game, hot dogs and sodas, and Orioles hats and t-shirts to under-privileged children. Several Orioles players, including Miguel Tejada, Kevin Millar, andRamon Hernandez, have helped these children enjoy a game in 2006 and 2007.

Pre-Game Visits

At all 81 home games, the Orioles host a variety of special needs groups on the fieldprior to the game to experience batting practice. Guests include those associated withthe Believe in Tomorrow and Make-A-Wish programs. The once-in-a-lifetime memoryis enhanced with face-to-face meetings with players.

Orioles Food Drive

Non-perishable food and personal items and arecord-setting amount of money were collectedfor the Maryland Food Bank during the Orioles’20th annual food drive, held last June atCamden Yards. The Orioles, Orioles Wives,WJZ-TV employees and Oriole Advocatescollected almost 9,000 pounds of food and arecord-setting $28,555 in cash from fansattending games during the three days. Foodand non-perishable items were distributed tosoup kitchens, food pantries and sheltersthroughout Maryland, and cash donations wereused to purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving.This year’s food drive will take place theweekend of August 10-12.

High Five Fundraising Program

The Orioles High Five Fundraising programprovides organizations the opportunity to sellOrioles tickets to generate funds for specialprograms such as school clubs or civicorganizations. It allows groups to not onlyraise money for themselves, but also providesan opportunity for the group to participate inan activity together. The non-profitorganization receives $5 for every ticket sold,and a variety of price categories and seatlocations are available to fit any budget. In2006, the Orioles helped raise $175,000 forhundreds of non-profit organizations. Morethan $450,000 has been raised since theprogram’s inception in 2005.

Latino Night and Cardboard toLeather Equipment Collection

This season, the Oriole Advocates heldtheir annual Cardboard to Leather baseballequipment collection in conjunction withthe Orioles’ annual Latino Night on July14. Cardboard to Leather provides newand gently used baseball gloves and batscollected from Orioles fans for childrenin developing countries in the Caribbean.Latino Night, a celebration of the influenceof Hispanics on professional baseball,featured a bullpen picnic area party priorto the game with appearances by His-panic Orioles; a silent auction of Oriolesmemorabilia; and ballpark décor, musicand video suited to the theme. In additionto equipment, cash donations collected atthe gate and for the silent auction raised$4,500 for the Cardboard to Leatherprogram.

High School All-Star Game

The best of Maryland’s High Schoolbaseball players get the recognition theirtalents deserve through the High SchoolAll-Star Game. The Orioles have hostedthe big event each year since 1980,giving young amateurs a chance toshowcase their talents in a major leagueballpark. This year’s game took place onJune 10 after the Orioles/Rockies game.

Junior Orioles Dugout Club

The Junior Orioles Dugout Club presentedby Chick-fil-A offers an affordable way forkids and their families to attendOrioles games and receive specialrewards available only to members. TheClub is essentially a mini-season ticketpackage for kids 14 years old andyounger. In 2006 and 2007, inpartnership with Chick-fil-A, the Oriolesdonated $5 for every kit sold at a Chick-fil-A restaurant to the Juvenile DiabetesResearch Foundation. To date, more than$30,000 has been raised for JDRF throughthis program.

In 2007, the Orioles have hosted over42,000 youth through their annual SafetyPatrol Day, Day Camper Day, and LittleLeague Days. Little Leaguers had theopportunity to participate in a pre-gameparade around the field at Camden Yards,greeted by O’s players as they passed bythe dugout.
