Have you ever splurged? What was the biggest splurge you’ve given to yourself re- cently? Why did you splurge (on that)? 2. In 1 Corinthians 6:12a, Paul states that “all things” are lawful for him, but not all things are profitable. In your own words, explain what he means. 3. Paul goes on to say that he will not be “mastered” by anything. This word ’mastered’ in the Greek is exousiazo and it means “exercise authority upon.” What does Paul mean? 7. In verses 16 and 17 Paul uses the word “join.” First in his analogy of a person ‘joining’ himself to a prostitute—becoming ‘one body’ with her (v 16). And second, he uses the word ‘join’ in his statement that, “one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him (v 17). That word join means “to glue together,” “to bind.” RE-WRITE verses 16 and 17, insert- ing the definitions for the word “join” and explain in what Paul is saying. 8. What impact does being “joined” to the Lord and being one spirit with Him have on you (in your life)? 9. In 1 Cor. 6:18, Paul says FLEE immorality! That word flee in Greek is pheugo, meaning “avoid” and “elude.” Paul states, Avoid! Elude! Immor- ality (sexual) . He then goes on to show an interesting contrast stating that “every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, BUT the immoral man sins against his own body.” How does one sin “outside” his or her body? How is that different than sexual immorality according to Paul (which is sinning against one’s own body)? 10. In our busy day-to-day, we go in and out of buildings and places all the time (most of the time without paying any notice to our surroundings). What attributes make buildings or offices or spaces more inviting to you? Share about any special buildings that you like and why you like them.

Please note that I used the New American Standard Bible to put

together this study. Make note of the fact that different versions use different words.

Ask God to illuminate His word (lighting it up!) so that you can

‘see’ what He is trying to reveal to you during this study!

Don’t be afraid to THINK out-

side the box!

Be sure to take the time to read the entire chapter (1 Corin-

thians 6) in context to get the full meaning of the passages we are studying.

11. The next Scripture is the point of this study! Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:19, “Or do you not know that your body is a TEMPLE of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?” LOOK UP THE FOLLOW-ING SCRIPTURES: 1 Cor. 3:16; 2 Cor. 6:16. Paul is trying to convince the Corin-thians (and us) of the fact that our ‘bodies’ are the ‘temple’ of God.

A. Do you think Paul is using figurative language or literal language? And why? B. What are the implications of our bodies being the ’dwelling place’ of God? C. What does God require of His temple dwelling? D. Share what it means to you to be the temple of God. 12. And finally, in verse 20, Paul reminds the Corinthians that they were ‘bought with a

price.’ What is he referring to? What was the ‘payment’ for the Corinthians (and for us)?

13. He concludes this passage with an application directive: “THEREFORE GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY.” Look up the word glorify. What does it mean? Interpret Paul’s directive, what did he mean when he said ‘glorify God in your body?’

You and I are the ‘temple’ of the Most High God. It’s an amazing position to be in! Meditate on and ponder this wonderful concept.

Most of all be very careful how you treat and take care of GOD’S HOUSE!
