Alice and I would like to thank our Goddard family for the visits, calls, cards, and prayers during my little ‘vacation’ at Sparks Hospital in December. I guess I’m doing okay now. A very special thanks to Zoe Ann Batten.

Here is what’s happening in
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY The children’s ministry is in full swing with our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening services. We have had the Sebastian County Humane Society and the Fort Smith Bomb Squad visit with the kids during our Wednesday after school program. The kids enjoyed getting “hands on” with the in-structional demonstrations. We are looking forward to the Fort Smith Police Department coming to talk to us in February. The Sebastian County Extension office will be here on the 20th to talk with the kids about healthy snacking and make their famous “Green Shake”. They guarantee the kids will love it. We have made a slight adjustment in our Wednesday evenings to better accommodate eve-ning prayer service. Young Musician has been moved up to 4:10-5:00 to allow the kids more time to finish their dinner. We have added even more children to our Wednesday pickup and are now using the large bus for the pickup at Ballman Elementary. If you have a CDL and are able to help pick children up occasionally please contact me through the church office. We are also seeing new children on Sunday mornings. This is such a blessing. Please encourage any visitors you see to join us for Sunday school and children’s church. The children will be follow-ing The Way by Adam Hamilton along with the adults. Wouldn’t this be a great opportunity to discuss the morning’s lessons, as a family, over Sunday lunch? Please join us for our Ash Wednesday service Wednesday , February 13, at 7:00 p.m. The Young Musicians will be per-forming at this service. They have been working hard to prepare their part of the program. Don’t miss it! As always, thank you for all you do to support our children’s ministry. We couldn’t reach out to these children if it weren’t for you.
Blessings, Kim Friery

Community Rescue Mission Goddard United Methodist Church Report
Children Blessed at Christmas!
Brian, our Mission Director, reported that the individuals living at our Mission during December had a very blessed Christmas. Many of you donated along with others from our supporting churches to provide a wonderful Christmas for those in need – the Children were especially blessed and none were left out. .
Here are some of the statistics for those helped through our Mission in year 2012:
Total of 856 individuals (25 children in January as well) checked in to stay at the Mission
These 856 people were provided with a total of 12,487 nights of stay
59,127 meals were served both to residents as well as non-residents of the Mission
Improved signage needed for the our Mission
For those of you willing to donate to the ministry, there is a real need for new and/or improved signage for the Mis-sion. This will make it more inviting for those looking for a place to stay or eat as well as a better identified area for those of you making donations directly at the Mission. If you or your group is so led to make a cash donation towards this project, please earmark when sending to Mission or leave at Goddard and I will deliver your donations.
Your prayers and support do make a difference to the homeless.

2012 YEAR END PANTRY REPORT
Because of your generous giving during 2012, the pantry has been able to feed 5,116 people. That relates to 1,594 households. We were able to serve around 580 individuals s during the turkey bag give-away for Thanksgiving and Christmas. You gave over $32,000 in monetary donations to the food pantry plus all food contributions. Also, there were other donations from memorials, the yard sale, and from the missions committee. Our expenses totaled approximately $33,000. Therefore, your faithful giving has kept the pantry in a place that we can continue to be a mission for those in need.

From our pastor……... A couple of weeks ago I was preparing a presentation for our Mission Training Workshop, and as I was thinking about why we are a church the question came to my mind, “If I weren’t the pastor at Goddard would I still want to attend here?” The answer is, “Yes.” Coming to the answer really didn’t take any time for reflec-tion, and I can easily cite many specific reasons for feeling this way, but one that outweighs them all. I believe we aspire to display Jesus Christ’s love, forgiveness, and acceptance of all. I’m sure you would join me in understanding we’re not where we want to be in this call, but it is at the heart of who we are and what our vision is.
We’re growing in this vision by steps. Sonna is doing an excellent job of giving us guidance, and with that thought, I want to encourage your support and attendance at a workshop coming up on February 9. I’ll refer you elsewhere in this newsletter for the details on our speakers, and encourage you, that if you have internet access, look up our speakers and be amazed by their credentials. You’ll see that this is a special opportunity. But, again, the most important reason to attend is that the Spirit of God is calling us as a Church. If you can’t come on February 9, be sure to come to worship on February 10 when Dr. Perkins preaches in our worship ser-vices.
I love being one of your pastors. Thanks.
Steve
