Year 4 Home Learning - Week 17 Dear Year 4, We hope you are keeping yourselves well and safe. Keep going with all your times-table and maths work on Hit the Button, TT Rockstars and Mathsbot. Parents, you can go to Twinkl.com to access a variety of free resources to help with home schooling and onto themathsfactor.com for more free maths resources. I am an Artist – Self-portrait. To go alongside your letter to your new Year 5 teacher, it would be fantastic if you could draw a self-portrait so that your new teacher will know what you look like. You can create your self-portrait in any style that you like. You may wish to include some of the shading techniques we looked at a couple of weeks ago or may even wish to draw yourself in the style of Roy Lichtenstein or Andy Warhol. The choice is yours! 2. I am an Author (Writing) – Formal letter writing. Write a letter to your Year 5 teacher. You should include some information about yourself and a question for your new teacher to answer. Use the checklist and example on the sheet below to help you. 3. I am an Author (Reading). Read the sheets below on ‘Live Like an Emperor’ and ‘Layers of the Rainforest’ then answer the questions. (Answers can be found on the sheet below). Your child can either independently read and answer questions or you can read it with them and then discuss the answers. 4. I am a Scientist – The water cycle. Create a leaflet or poster explaining what the water cycle is. Remember to include the different stages, a diagram and explanations of what the scientific words mean (e.g. condensation and evaporation). Use the resources on the sheets below to help you. You can also refer to the videos and resources from last week too. 5. I am a Mathematician – Money This week, your task is to learn how to add different amounts of money together and how to compare different amounts of money. In the sheet named ‘At the beach cafe’ your job is to add together the costs of different items to work out how much each customer spent. 6. I am an Author (SPaG). At school we started to learn about determiners. A determiner is a word that introduces a noun. Interrogative determiners can be used to ask questions (e.g. which, what and whose). Demonstrative determiners can be used to compare or show how close something is (e.g.
