COLORFUL DANCE“Colorful Dance” is an activity that introduces this week’s Bible story while children use gross motor skills and balance to dance around with colorful scarves.

WHAT YOU NEED: Scarves in an assortment of colors, a music player, and this month’s special music

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Spread out in an open area in the room. Give each child a scarf.

During the Activity: Cue music and dance with the scarves.

After the Activity: Sit down in a circle and put all the scarves in the middle as you introduce the Bible story.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “Hello, boys and girls! Come get a scarf and spread out in a circle. (Pause.)”

During the Activity: “Super duper! When the music starts I want you to wave your scarves up and down and all around and dance to the music. (Start the music.) Wave your scarves all around. (Pause.) Great job, friends! Look how pretty all the colors are! Keep going.” (Keep dancing as long as there is interest.)

MATCHING COATS“Matching Coats” is an activity that introduces this week’s Bible story while encouraging kids to match the coat halves.

WHAT YOU NEED: “Matching Coats” from the Activity Pages found on the Website, cardstock, and scissors (Optional: laminate)

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Copy “Matching Coats” on cardstock. (If laminating, do this before cutting.) Cut on dotted lines.

During the Activity: Shuffle and place at a table or on the floor. Encourage kids to find the two halves to make a whole coat. Repeat as many times as desired.

After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “Look at all the coat pieces we have. Can you help me find the two matching halves that make up one coat? Super!”

During the Activity: “Look at this half. (Describe the colors/shapes on the half you pick up.) Do you see another half that looks like it? (Pause.) Wow! Great job! We made a whole coat! (Put the two pieces together flat on the table/floor.) What about this half? (Describe the colors/shapes on the half you pick up.) Do you see another half that looks like it? (Pause.) Fantastic! We made another whole coat!” (Repeat until all the coat halves have been matched.)

After the Activity: “Look at all the pretty coats we made today! In our Bible story we are going to hear about a man named Joseph and the colorful coat he was given.”

COLOR FULL“Color Full” is an activity that introduces this week’s Bible story while encouraging kids to use their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

WHAT YOU NEED: Clear plastic bottle (like a dish soap bottle or sports drink bottle), a black permanent marker, crepe paper streamers in a variety of colors, and scissors

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Draw the outline of a coat onto the bottle using the permanent marker. Cut crepe paper into three-inch strips.

During the Activity: Encourage kids to fill the bottle with the colorful streamers.

After the Activity: Introduce the Bible story

WORDS AND MOTIONS“Words and Motions” is an activity that helps kids learn the words and motions to this month’s Memory Verse.

WHAT YOU NEED: No supplies needed

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Spread out in an open area in the room.

During the Activity: Teach the kids the words and motions for this month’s Memory Verse. Repeat as many times as desired.

After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “Come spread out in a circle around me. (Pause.) We have a new Memory Verse and motions to learn today!”

During the Activity: “I’m going to say the new verse and do the motions and then we’ll do it together. Watch and listen. ‘The plans (hold up fingers 1, 2, 3) of the Lord (point both hands up) stand firm forever’ (stomp feet w/ hands on hips), Psalm 33:11. (Hold out hands like a book.) (Repeat.) Okay, this time let’s do it together. (Repeat, and slow it down.) Super job! Sit down on the floor right where you are.”

A PIECE OF THE PUZZLE“A Piece of the Puzzle” is an activity that retells the Bible story while the children add their handprints to the piece of the puzzle.

WHAT YOU NEED: “Joseph Puzzle Piece 1” and “Coat” from the Activity Pages on the Website, poster board, glue stick, tape, colored dots, prepared butcher paper (see note below)

NOTE: Print out all six puzzle pieces for the month, glue them onto poster board, and cut them out. Then put the puzzle together on top of a large piece of butcher paper. Carefully remove five of the six pieces and trace around the first piece to create an outline. Repeat with the rest of the pieces, so you’ve created an outline of the entire puzzle for the month. Keep this piece of butcher paper to use every week.

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Print out “Joseph Puzzle Piece 1” from the Activity Pages on the Web Site. Glue the Activity Page to a piece of poster board and cut out. Hang the prepared butcher paper on the wall at the kids’ eye level. Print “Joseph in Coat” and cut out.

During the Activity: Reveal this week’s puzzle piece. Talk about what happened to Joseph this week. Show the children how to tape or glue this week’s puzzle piece to its spot outline the butcher paper. Have children glue the coat to the puzzle piece and add colorful dots to the coat.

WHAT YOU SAY: Before the Activity: “This looks like a piece of a puzzle. Today we heard a Bible story about a man named Joseph and a special coat his father gave him.

During the Activity: “Joseph was from a BIG family. He had 11 brothers! Whoa. That’s a LOT! Count to 11 with me. (Count to 11.) Great job! But wow, 11 brothers is a LOT. If you had that many brothers, you might start to think that you weren’t very special. But God had a plan for Joseph and he had made him very special. Well, one day Joseph was out in the field with his brothers and they were watching over the family sheep. While Joseph and his brothers were watching the sheep, their

dad came in with a special present for Joseph. It was a coat—(glue coat to puzzle piece)—an absolutely BEAUTIFUL coat that his dad had made special for Joseph. Wait a minute. Our coat isn’t beautiful yet. Let’s make this coat beautiful by putting these colored dots on it. (Put colored dots on the coat.) But Joseph’s brothers were mad. They wanted a special coat too. But God had special plans for Joseph and his beautiful coat. And this was just the first piece of the puzzle.” (Tape the puzzle piece to the butcher paper.)

After the Activity: “You may not have a coat like Joseph, but God has a plan for you too! God made you special. You are special because God made you, and just like He had a plan for Joseph, he has a plan for YOU! Who has a plan for you? God has a plan for me.”

COLOR RELAY“Color Relay” is an activity that encourages kids to use their gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.

WHAT YOU NEED: “Large Coat” from the Activity Pages found on the Website, copy paper, clear Con-Tact® paper, variety of bright colored crepe paper streamers, painter’s tape, black permanent marker, and scissors

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Copy “Large Coat” and enlarge on copy paper. Then transfer it onto the clear side of the Con-Tact® paper with the permanent marker. (Option: Free hand your coat outline onto the clear side of the Con-Tact® paper with the permanent marker.) Cut the Con-Tact® paper and peel off the backing. Using painter’s tape, attach it to the wall at child height. Cut crepe paper into strips to fit the length of the coat.

During the Activity: Have children line up and place a streamer one at a time on the coat. Repeat as many times as desired.

After the Activity: Sit down in front of the coat and talk about all the different colors you see as you talk about Joseph and his special coat.

JOSEPH’S COAT “Joseph’s Coat” is an activity that reintroduces the Bible story while children use their fine motor skills to make a colorful Joseph puppet.

WHAT YOU NEED: “Joseph” from the Activity Pages from the Website, Avery® labels #5160 or equivalent, brown or white paper lunch bags, construction paper in multiple colors, scissors, glue sticks, googly eye stickers, a black marker, and a red marker

WHAT YOU DO: Before the Activity: Copy “Joseph” onto the labels so each child will have one. Cut construction paper in 1x5-inch strips. Draw a smiley face at the bottom of the flap with the red marker.

During the Activity: Retell the Bible story as kids add googly eye stickers and glue strips of construction paper to their bag to make Joseph’s colorful coat. Let kids stick the label on the back and then write the child’s name on their bag and put aside to dry.

After the Activity: Say the Bottom Line together.

Now flip Joseph over and put this sticker on. This sticker tells you where to find the story of Joseph and his colorful coat in the
