GOALS The child will...

• Understand that God created everything!

• Realize she can see the greatness of God through what He has created!

• Believe that God created her and wants to have a relationship with her!

REMINDERS In this series we will walk through each of the Foundational Gospel Truths. In this lesson we will focus on “Who

is God?” This series has a strong emphasis on the Gospel, wrapped in an adventure theme. Each lesson will

focus on a different survival pack item and how it should be used. Many children don’t have an opportunity to

go camping or travel. Utilize this theme to bring home the truths we want the children to learn! In this lesson

we focus on binoculars and how they are a great tool to be able to see all the amazing things God has

created.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS We want to express our gratitude to the volunteers who contributed ideas toward the development of this

lesson: Kristn Punjabi, Barbara Bingham, Dustin Gier, Ashley Robinson, Passion Bradley, Jewell Jackson, Daniel

Weaver, Janna Smith, and Kelly Anderson. All of our contributors work with the children of Oklahoma City’s

inner city. Thank you for the time you have invested in these children.

THE GREATNESS OF GOD AND HIS CREATION (BIBLE STORY - PSALM 104) Visuals

• Bible Story Visuals*, Campfire sample*, Key Word Signs*

Supplies

• Bible; Bible Insert for Large Group*; four paper towel rolls or small logs; red, orange, and yellow cellophane;

battery-powered tealight candles; mini flashlights (one per child); regular flashlight

Captivate #1 - Campfire Story Time! • Create a faux campfire following the Campfire Sample instructions. Give each of the children a mini

flashlight and have them all sit around the campfire. Explain to the children that you are going to tell them a

campfire story, and the mini flashlights are going to be the stars in the sky. Turn off some of the lights so the

flashlights can be seen on the ceiling. Use the regular flashlight to shine on the Bible Story Visuals as you

tell the story.

Captivate #2 - Key Word!

• Identify several key words you will use in the Bible Story. Before telling the story, tell the children an action

or sound effect for each of the key words. Make sure that as you tell the story you repeat these words often.

Some examples would be when you say “God,” the children say “Almighty,” or when you say “created,” the

children say “everything.”

Introduction • David was a shepherd boy who God chose to one day be a king. He had incredible faith, and as a boy he

slayed a giant with just a sling and some stones. He had a deep love for God. He would often write his

thoughts and feelings to God. Writing was one of his ways to spend time with God and worship Him. These

writings are called Psalms. A Psalm is a poem or song that someone writes where he or she can express his

or her deep thoughts and feelings.

Story

• Retell the story from Psalm 104.

• See Bible Story Script.

Conclusion • David saw the greatness of God in all God created. He painted a picture of God for us in the Psalm he

wrote. God is the Almighty Creator of everything!

TESTIMONY • Share how God has showed you who He is through His creation.

• Share a time you experienced God’s creation and how your faith grew.

CHALLENGE Visuals

• Key Point Visuals*, Power Phrase Visual*, Memory Verse Visual*

Supplies • Bible, Bible Insert for Large Group

Introduction • In our Bible Story, we learned how David wrote Psalms as a way to worship God and write his feelings to

God. In this Psalm, David was overwhelmed by God’s greatness when he thought about all that God had

created, including the earth, sun, moon, and stars. He marveled at the miraculous way God created people

and gave them life. When we look at these things, it is hard not to believe there is an Almighty Creator!

Key Points

God is the Creator!

• When you look around, everything you see is created by God! The mountains, the universe, the animals, the

sun, and people – God created everything!

• Colossians 1:16, “For by Him all things were created, in Heaven and on earth. . . All things were created

through Him and for Him.”

God is holy!

• The Bible teaches us that God is a holy God. The word holy comes from a word meaning “to separate or cut

off.” God is separate or cut off from everything that is sinful because He is sinless.

• To say that God is holy means that there is no evil in Him.

• 1 Samuel 2:2, “There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides You; there is no rock like our God.”

God is love!

• God knew and loved us before we were even born (Isaiah 44:2).

• God’s love for us is not based on who we are or what we do. There is nothing we can do to earn God’s love,

nor is there anything we can do to stop God from loving us.

• God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16).

God is in Heaven!

• God loves us so much, He wants to spend eternity with us in Heaven.

• He is preparing a home for those who have asked God to forgive them of their sins and be the Lord of their

lives.

• John 14:2, “In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you I go to prepare a

place for you?”

CHALLENGE (CONTINUED) Conclusion

God is the Almighty Creator of everything! We can see His greatness in all He has created. All things were

created for a purpose. God created us because He loves us and wants to have a relationship with us. He is

creating a home in Heaven for those who believe in Jesus so we can spend eternity with Him.

Invitation

For the unsaved child:

• God created you because He loves you very much and wants to have a relationship with you! He sent His

Son Jesus to die on the cross so you can receive forgiveness for your sins. We have all sinned, and sin

separates us from God (Romans 6:23a). But because of Jesus, we can admit we have sinned and ask Jesus

to be the Lord of our lives (Romans 10:9).

• Invite the children to stay behind and talk to a leader if they have any questions or would like to ask Jesus

to forgive their sins and be the Lord of their lives.

For the saved child:

• We can look all around us and see God’s creation. We can see how amazing He is. How can you help

others know God by talking with them about His creations?

• Encourage children to stay behind and talk to a leader if they have any questions.

GOD’S CREATION (ARRIVING ACTIVITY) Visuals

• Pictures of magnificent places in nature*

Supplies

• Binoculars (optional)

Instruction and Application • Ask the children if they have ever looked through binoculars. Ask them what the purpose of binoculars is

and how they are used. If you have real binoculars, you can give the children a chance to look through them

and see how they work. Explain that binoculars allow you to see things that are far away as if they were

close.

• Show the children the pictures of magnificent places in nature that God created. Have them imagine what it

would be like to be in those places, experiencing the beauty of God’s creation. Have the children discuss

places they would like to visit and view through binoculars.

• Today we will be learning how God is the Almighty Creator of everything! We can see how amazing God is

just by looking at the things He has created.

• Review the Memory Verse with the children. Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky

above proclaims His handiwork.”

A.G.A.I.N. Acrostic

A — Attention Grabber (Grab their attention with an interesting introduction and don’t let go!)

In our Bible story we learned how David wrote Psalms to worship God and share his feelings. In this Psalm,

David was talking about how incredible God is and all that He has created. Ask the children if they have ever

seen a hand-stitched quilt. Every detail is stitched by the creator of the quilt. When all the pieces are sewn

together, it creates a beautiful masterpiece. God is our incredible Creator. He created everything, down to the

smallest creature and detail. His creations are so incredible that the heavens declare the glory of God!

G — God’s Word (Show them that the concept you are teaching them comes from the Bible.)

Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”

A — Awareness (Make them “aware” of the words and concepts.)

Heavens — visible heavens, sky, universe

Declare / proclaims — tell, announce

Glory of God — abundance, splendor, greatness

The sky above — the expanses

Handiwork — work of His hands

I — In Their Lives (Teach them to apply the lesson “in their lives.”)

Unsaved child (questions to ask an unsaved child)

Do you see God in the things around you that He created? Do you know He created you so He could

have a relationship with you?

Saved child (questions to ask a saved child)

What can you learn by looking at God’s creation? How can you proclaim the glory of God to others?

N — Number of Times (Repeat the content again and again until the children understand it.)

Read from Scripture. Repeat after me. Play the Memory Game three or four times.

Memory Game

Play Me Then You. Review the verse together a couple times. Then explain to the children that while your

hands are up, you will say the words. When your hands are down, they will say the words. Rotate between

your hands being up and down to keep the children engaged and challenged.

FAITHFUL (GOSPEL PRESENTATION) Visuals

• “Who Is God?” Foundational Gospel Truths Visual*, Picture of Jewell Jackson*

Supplies

• Bible, paper, writing tools, small object

Instruction and Application • Jewell Jackson grew up going to church, but it wasn’t until she was 22 years old that she had a personal

relationship with Jesus. She was a single mom struggling to raise her children on her own. She felt hopeless

and alone. The Holy Spirit would give her Scriptures to encourage her that she didn’t even know were in

the Bible. One day she felt the Holy Spirit say to her, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” This Scripture

gave her great peace knowing that God would never leave her. She understood that God loved her and

was always there for her. He had a home for her in Heaven, and one day she would spend eternity with

Him.

• Jewell grew in her faith and knowledge of God. She became very involved in her church, a Bible Club, and

teaching at seminars.

• Years later, Jewell was diagnosed with cancer. This could have been a terrifying time in her life, but the Holy

Spirit spoke to her again and reminded her of God’s promise that He would never leave her nor forsake her.

He also gave her Psalm 91:14, which says, “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will

protect him, because he knows My name.” Jewell no longer feared because she knew God was going to be

with her.

• During Jewell’s cancer treatments, she shared the Gospel message with her nurses. She brought Christian

music and played it all through her radiation treatments. By the end of her treatments, the nurses were all

singing along. They told Jewell they would miss her and her music very much. She had impacted their lives!

• Jewell has never stopped serving God and being a witness for Him, even when she was sick. She

continues to serve at church and Bible Club. Jewell takes advantage of every opportunity to share the love

of God with those around her.

• Just like Jewell, we can know who God is (1 Samuel 2:2) and how much He loves us (John 3:16a). He is

preparing a home for us in Heaven if we believe in Him and follow Him with our lives (John 14:2). All we have

to do is ask Him to forgive our sins and be the Lord of our lives. Use the “Who Is God?” Visual to review.

Discussion • Older Team: Have the children discuss what they know about God and who He is to them.

• Younger Team: Have the children spell God and take turns saying something they know about God and who

He is to them.

• Quiet Team: Have the children write the word God in bubble letters in the center of a page. Then have them

write all the things they know about God around it.

• Active Team: Have the children play Hot Potato. As they pass the item, have them spell God over and over

again. The person who drops the object will then share something they know about who God is.

BINOCULARS (CRAFT)

Visuals

• Craft sample*

Supplies

• Brown construction paper (one per child, cut in half long way) or two toilet paper rolls, 1” x 11” strip of colored

paper (one per child), glue, tape, yarn (10-inch piece per child), hole punch

Instruction and Application • Give each of the children two toilet paper rolls or a piece of brown construction paper. If using the

construction paper, have them fold it and cut it in half, or this can be done in advance. Next have the

children roll the construction paper, tape the ends, and tape the rolls together. If using the toilet paper rolls,

have the children tape them together, side by side, as shown in the craft sample. Next have the children

wrap the strip of colored paper around the binoculars and tape to secure it. Finally, have the children hole

punch the outside edges and tie yarn on both sides. Encourage the children to look through their binoculars

to see all the things God created around them.

• Remind the children that God is the Almighty Creator of everything! Review the Memory Verse with the

children. Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”

WHAT’S THE POINT? (APPLICATION ACTIVITIES) Supplies

• “What’s the Point?” card*, writing tools

Activity #1

• Give each child a “What’s the Point?” card. Have the children write what they learned about how God is the

Almighty Creator of everything! Have them fill out the “Put it to action!” portion by writing something they

can do this week to apply what they learned. How can they be more aware of God’s creations? How can

they show others what God has created to help them understand who God is?

Activity #2 • Have the children take turns acting out different things that God has created. If you have a group that is

more quiet, you could choose to have them draw a picture of binoculars and then write down how they can

know more about God by looking at everything He has created.

NOW WHAT? (ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY) Supplies • Additional Activity #1: Coloring Page*

• Additional Activity #2: Word Scramble Activity Page*

• Additional Activity #3: Hidden Word Activity Page*

• Additional Activity #4: The Big Take Away Key Chain*

Instruction and Application

• These activities are to be used with your team as time fillers while reinforcing the lesson concepts. The

children can take these home each week or do them while they are listening to you teach during Small

Group. These activities require little to no explanation and can be great for moments when you are

transitioning or don’t have time to start another activity.
