A Reflection from the Desk of the Administrator…April 22, 2018

Fourth Sunday Easter Year B “Good Shepherd Sunday”

The fourth Sunday of Easter has been traditionally described as the Good Shepherd Sunday. The theme chosen this weekend is that of leadership. Jesus uses the image of a good shepherd to talk about his leadership qualities, “The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the

gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” (John 10:2-3 NRSV) Thus the true shepherd wins the confidence of the sheep because he is ready to forgo his needs and to deny his interest for the benefit of the sheep. But there is also another person who poses as a shepherd; his mission is evil because “…he comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10A). Here Jesus warns his disciples not to be confused. Part of the mystery of faith is the presence of impostors. The impostors come to use the sheep, to steal and to destroy. Here we can think of wicked kings and queens, dictators and oppressive emperors. We can think of abusive friends, spouses, parents, teachers and church leaders. But Jesus says, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10B) Sometimes we may be looking for the thieves from outside but only to notice that the very person we share our life with and always listen to is the thief whose agenda is to steal, destroy and kill the life in us. Thus, life calls for discernment to know whom we follow and who inspires us. Authentic leaders cherish, care and motivate the best from their followers. Whose voice do you listen to?

Please stand and join in singing Hymn number...and know that God is good all the time.

Women’s Club News!

The Women’s Club Rummage Sale is less than a month away, May 4-5, 2018. Your donations are very much appreciated; but please remember we can no longer accept any type of electronic devices. The cost and places to dispose of unsold electronics makes them unusable. Also, if you are donating a baked good for the Bake Sale, please make your donations no bigger than an 8x8 pan; they sell better. Thank you for

understanding. Liz Vernon, Women’s Club Chair
