PASTf PRESEnT AnD fUTUREPalmistry has an old and oft troubled relationship with 'fortune telling', divinationand augury, yet some hand readersareable, sometimes with astonishing accuracy,to describe past, present and future situations.The timing from their lines, of the events in a person'slife, is called grammeomancy.In old palmistry lore, the minor earth (fate/Saturn) line was believed to representthe timeline of our lives. The Greek name for Saturn is Chronos, who is 'oldfather time'. This is a concept that is congruent with five element chirology, asearth ruled lines have innate reliability, so events in people's lives might alsoleave their imprint on the main earth lines.However, exact dates aren't literally read directly from lines, because lines canonly divide into perhaps Imm per year of life, depending on the length of theline and an assumption as to the length of the person's life would first need tobe made. Onewould also haveto decide where the line actually begins and endsand which end of the line is its beginning and besides, the lineal markings canchange. All of these factors confirm that this kind of information about people'slives is mostly picked up intuitively.When an intuitive chirologer correctly times a past event, or identifies a currentsituation, rapport and trust deepen rapidly; the client feels understood and candeal with the impact and effects, in present time. But predicting events, datesand outcomes on behalf of another person sidetracks them from exploring a farmore empowering awareness; that of their role in creating their own reality.Given the right tools, we have the free will to change our attitudes towards pastand present experiences. In understanding that thought is form and that whatwe think about comes about, we are better able to formulate our futures withour present time thoughts. Holistic chirology holds that perceptions of past eventsand the patterns that create future events, can change. An optimal reading is aqualitative, rather than chronological evaluation of the person, as they are now,in the present.

WHORL on THE fiRE finGERHand readers consider a whorl on a fire finger to be 'the classic sign of the artist'.The influence of an air governed whorl added to a fire (ring) finger is that ofexpansion. Fire breathesair, which nourishesand stimulates it, and fire principlesof intensity, energy, creativity and illumination are activated in the person.Those with whorls on their fire fingers are talented. Our sample is of a man's' earth shaped hand that has overall few lines and ashort air (head) line, suggestingdisinclination for self analysis. His is a materialisticorientation. Basic common sense is revealed by his water finger arch, however,this trait might be overruled by the whorl on his long fire finger, which showshim to be a risk taker. A light-hearted and optimistic humour loop helps him tofeel successful and happy. Sculpting would be a rewarding choice for creativeexpression as his water finger arch also shows manual skills and the love ofnatural craft. His earthy hand shape guarantees a sensual sense of touch.

STYLE LOOPPeople with a style loop have flair. They admire elegance and all things stylish andthey may have an interest in interiors and decor. If either of their fire fingers hasa peacock's eye they are suited to a career involving some form of application ofdesign. They like to create an ambience and often their taste is towards the exotic.Style loops are associated with people who care about their appearance and whohave a distinctive personal style of dress. They like to feel good about themselvesand many who bear this pattern carry themselves gracefully. Some style loopowners are narcissistically self-absorbed and they spend a lot of time looking atthemselves in mirrors. Their appreciation of beauty is highly developed. Colourmatters to them in their lives, in their homes, their clothes and even in the choiceof which colour flowers to grow or purchase.The fire finger represents self expression and the Sun mount is associated withtalent and brilliance. In our sample print the water (heart) line of a woman in her forties forks into twobranches. Onebranch runs upwards to between her water and earth fingers, whileanother branchgrows towards the radial side of her hand. The messybeginning to her earth (life) and air (head) lines tell of a traumatic childhood,from which grew her renowned altruistic warm-heartedness. A style loop hintsat her home decor being eclectic, ethnic and inviting.
