FOSSIL EVIDENCE
Comparative Morphology = study of the forms/shapes of organisms.HOMOLOGOUS Structures = same shape but different functions.
Comparative Morphology = study of the forms/shapes of organisms.ANALOGOUS Structures = different shape but used for same thing.
Convergent evolution = evolution of similar solutions to similar problems without being evolutionarily connect.
3 groups with wings– Does this mean
they have a recent common ancestor?
Flight evolved 3 separate times — evolving similar solutions to similar “problems”

Convergent evolution led to mimicry (harmless organisms having similar appearance to a harmful organism)

• Why do these pairs look so similar?
Vestigial organs = organs that are still present but are no longer useful.
• Hind leg bones on whale fossils
Why would whales have pelvis & leg bones if they were always sea creatures?

Comparative embryology =
• Development of embryo tells an evolutionary story – similar structures during development

DNA Fingerprints and EvolutionThe closer the match for DNA fingerprints, the closer the
evolutionary relationship of the two organisms.
