YEARBOOK

Congratulations on a successful 2015-2016 season of Roadrunner Athletics! This year saw the debut of our girls lacrosse team. The girls competed as a Junior Varsity team and we hope to have them compete as a Varsity team in the near future. Our Girls Varsity

Tennis team repeated as Colonial Division champs in the SEC, and our Girls Middle School Basketball team went undefeated. Many of our athletes received All Conference and All Division honors, and achieved record breaking performances in all of our sports!

This past year, we fielded nearly 30 teams with 75% of our student body participating in one or more sports, while the national average is 55% participation. In total, there were over 300 roster spots filled and over 300 games played!

This success of the GOA athletic program would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our school administration. I personally owe them all a huge debt of gratitude. I could not do my job without their unstinting help, support and encouragement. I have to thank all of our coaches as well. The knowledge and commitment they bring to our program is a major part of its success and a huge benefit to all our athletes. Finally, I would be remiss if I did not thank the parents of our athletes who encourage their children to play school sports and travel all across New Jersey for away games. Thanks to the many parents who chaperoned our away games and provided wonderful support for the coaches and snacks for the athletes. I would especially like to thank Shari Beth Susskind, Jodi Moskowitz, and Rachel Scherzer for organizing our Annual Sports Awards Dinner, as well as Anne Kroll and Jim Bratek for their help in producing this Yearbook.

Most of all, I would like to pay tribute to our students. It is not easy being an athlete at Golda Och Academy. We have a shortage of fields, practice facilities and, most of all, time. Our students have heavy academic workloads and non-academic commitments: GOA athletes can be found acting in school plays, singing in the choir, working on the newspaper, the literary magazine, the yearbook and participating in many other activities, in school and outside. We compete against public schools with student bodies much larger than ours, against private and prep schools that practice six days a week and play two and three times as many games as we do. The fact that so many of our students are willing to defy these odds and make time in their busy lives for team sports is a tribute to their school spirit and to their personal ideals and aspirations.

Mazal Tov, Golda Och Academy Athletes! You make us all very proud.

It has been another banner year for our Golda Och Academy Roadrunners and you should all be quite proud of your hard

work and achievements. It is not easy to balance both the academic and athletic demands but you all continually find a way to do it with determination in your hearts and smiles on your faces. You have spent hours honing your skills during practices, put your hearts and souls into your performances on the sports fields and courts, and along the way have made it quite easy for the rest of us to stand and cheer you on! To dedicate oneself to a team sport is admirable and has certainly taught each and every one of you valuable lessons that you will carry with you for many years to come. Thank you for being the wonderful individuals and teammates that you are, for always giving it your all, and for being the incredible role-models that all of us at Golda Och Academy are proud to claim as our own. I also want extend a special thank you to all of our coaches. The success of each and every one of our teams happens because of the dedication of both our coaches and our athletes and for that we are all grateful. Yashar kochachem to all of you on another great year of GOA Athletics!

Adam ShapiroHead of School

In the short time I have been at Golda Och, I have come to see that athletics play a significant and multi-faceted

role at GOA. First, it gives our students a chance to represent our school with pride and conviction. Second, it allows students the opportunity to use skills and learning styles that aren’t always accessible in the classroom. GOA athletics also provides an opportunity to explore what it means to be part of a team, to understand one’s individual role in the context of contributing to something bigger than the individual experience. Finally, the athletics program gives students the chance to interact with adults who commit themselves to a role of coach and mentor towards a goal of athletic excellence. Our Athletic Director, Janet Herman, is always there to keep a close watch on all these aspects of the program. I want to thank her for all of her efforts to strengthen the program every day. I feel blessed to have joined such a spirited school that supports the role of athletics in a significant way. Yashar Koach to all of the athletes for taking up the mantle of student-athlete. You make us proud!

Christine StodolskiUpper School Principal

Each of our athletic teams is fortunate to find Team Parent volunteers to assist the coach in a variety of details, such as finding chaperones for away games, organizing end

of season parties for middle school teams, making phone calls, and whatever else may be needed. Their time and energy in this capacity is invaluable. We would like to thank all the

team parents for their commitment to the athletic programs at Golda Och Academy:
