DEC 18, 2015

University of Kentucky Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart visited Bath County High School this morning to speak to student members of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

BCHS had been on the news quite often lately with multiple tragedies affecting the student body, including two recent car accidents taking the life of one student and seriously injuring another (Aaron Williams). Mitch spoke words of spiritual encouragement and instruction to over 115 students in the school gymnasium.

He is pictured here with students and teachers in the BCHS FCA leadership team.

Twenty-One Bath County High School Students Obtain Their Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Industry Certifications Pictured are as follows: Front row: Matthew Meadows, Landan Swartz, Harvey Stapleton, Pashley Griffith, Allison Karrick, Talyn Alderman, and Joshua Neal Back Row: Nathan Davis, Spencer Pergrem, Jordan Davis, Kylen Messer, Lane Rogers, Chandler Otis, Hunter Riley, Jake Porter, Abby Henderson, Madelyne English, Brynn Collinsworth, and McKenna Moore Absent from the photo: Desirae Fogle and Megan Hutson Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the leading IT certification in the world. More than 1 million MOS exams are taken every year in over 140 countries. MOS certifications ensure that one has the the knowledge, skills, and abilities to productively use Microsoft Office. MOS enables one to tap the full features and functionality of the Microsoft Office system, resulting in heightened levels of individual performance, confidence, and differentiation. Some of the advantages of MOS certification include the following: MOS certification helps build individual distinction and helps prepare students for an increasingly competitive workforce. For business, MOS maximizes office productivity and efficiency for the organization and increases job satisfaction and heightens career achievement among employees. In workforce development, MOS prepares and places job candidates, ensuring they possess the skills employers require. (From http://www.certiport.com/portal/desktopdefault.aspx?tabid=664&roleid=101.) MOS tests are difficult to pass and students are required to pass three exams in the Microsoft Suite in order to be industry certified. Several Bath County students in Mrs. Kristal Robinson's and Mr. Sean Bailey's Digital Literacy classes set a goal to obtain their MOS certifications in three areas in order to become industry certified. Usually, the cost of a single MOS exam is around $100; however, the students at BCHS were able to take their exams for free. The Kentucky Department of Education offered school districts MOS vouchers at no cost with the implementation of the Microsoft IT Academy. Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Bailey feel that the program has been a success and are pleased with the results. With much practice and studying, 19 freshmen and two juniors successfully passed three MOS certification exams and are now industry certified. An additional six students have successfully passed two MOS exams and seven have passed one exam. The students may continue to work on their certifications until they graduate. We congratulate all of those students who have become Microsoft Office Specialists!
