Introduction

The GNS 5890 is the worldwide smallest ADS-B receiver with USB

connectivity. All of our products are tested intensively before leaving

the factory. Please read the following information carefully to ensure

a problem-free operation and optimal functionality.

GNS 5890 ADS-B receiver is equipped with a high sensitive

1090 MHz ADS-B circuit.

The GNS 5890 enables the utilisation of the virtual radar system

ADS-B.

Safety notices

Safeguard the GNS 5890 from moisture; observe the limits on

operating and storage temperatures.

Do not expose the GNS 5890 to direct sunlight or heat.

Do not open or modify. Failure to comply will result in the

guarantee and warranty becoming void. There are no

components inside that can be serviced by the user.

Only connect the GNS 5890 to the connector types described

in these instructions.

Be sure to respect the laws of the country you are in with

respect to operation of devices.

Do not operate the GNS 5890 with a damaged cord or if the

unit has dropped and/or has been damaged.

This product is intended for operation with power from a USB

power supply. Other usage is not recommended any may

destroy the device. Please use only the original accessories.

Switch on your computer.

Mount the rod antenna to the antenna base.

Connect the antenna to the ADS-B receiver GNS 5890.

Connect the ADS-B receiver to a free USB port.

Afterwards, Windows displays the Hardware wizard.

Install the GNS 5890 USB driver from our website.

Now the operating system creates a virtual COM port, which is

needed to use the software.

1 INTRODUCTION

This driver patch allows to run the 5890 ADS-B Stick USB on

Windows 7 and Windows 8.

The generic driver had some issues that may cause some instabilities

on some systems.

The installation of the patch has to be performed in some steps that

are described in this manual

Applications

The update procedure described here is intended to ensure a

stable operation of GNS 5890 ADS-B receiver on Win7 and

Win8 systems. No other devices / operating systems are

covered or tested to run with this solution.

remarks

The procedure must be performed manually. Please carefully

follow the instructions step by step. GNS is not liable for any

side effects resulting from unexpected behaviour of your

system.

Please reboot your Computer before performing the patch and

close all running applications before starting.

Download GNS 5890 driver package and extract the ZIP

archive in a folder on the computer

Start “setup.exe” from this directory

2 DRIVER UPDATE PROCEDURE

1. If this is the first time that you install 5890, please first follow

the standard installation process for 5890 from setup menu.

2. Insert your 5890 ADSB receiver to a free USB slot

3. Now Install the modified USB driver for Win 7 & 8 :

a. Open Device Manager from the Control Panel in Windows 7/8. b. With Device Manager open, locate the GNS 5890 ADS-B

Receiver that you want to update the drivers for. c. After finding the hardware you're updating drivers for, right

click on the hardware's name or icon and choose Properties.

In this Properties window, click the Driver tab. d. Click the Update Driver... button.

Note: The Update Driver Software wizard will begin. e. On the How do you want to search for driver software?

Window, click on Browse my computer for driver software.

f. In the next window labeled Browse for driver software on

your computer, click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer, located at the bottom of the window.

g. Click the Have Disk... button located under the text box. h. Click the Browse... button on the Install From Disk dialog

box that appeared. In the Locate File dialog box that appears next, navigate to the driver folder of the of the extracted

driver and choose „Win7&8_USBdriver_patch” directory.

i. Click any INF file that displays in the file list and click the

Open button. j. The Windows 7 Update Driver Software wizard will now use

the instructions provided in the INF file from Step 10 to

install the updated drivers for your hardware. k. Follow any additional instructions on screen to complete the

driver update.

Software Installation (adsbSCOPE)

Please install adsbSCOPE from the setup menu on your

computer. Then you can start adsbSCOPE from the desktop

icon or from the windows program menu by one click.

For COM port settings please click to the button “Select COM

Port”

Port : “X” “X” is the virtual COM port of GNS 5890

on your windows system, see page 5

(for example “4” , “6” or other)

Baud Rate : 115.200

After the click at the “Connect” button you will see the data

and position on your screen.

The blue LED in GNS 5890 lights up for every received ADS-B

frame.

adsbSCOPE

adsbSCOPE receives ADS-B-frames from the decoder (via a virtual

COM-port) and decodes the data. It identifies the aircraft and

calculates their positions. All important parameters are shown in

alphanumeric form, in a table and on a graphic display.

adsbSCOPE lists all detected aircraft in a table (right). All aircraft with

known coordinates are show in a graphic display (left).

The graphic display shows:

- the world globe with latitude and longitude - the coastlines of all continents - the position of more then 4000 airports - some big town - tracks of all detected aircraft labeled with altitude, speed,

identifier, heading, squawk... - open-street-map-maps as background image

The outlines and names of all stated of the world can be overlaid

(menu: load Maps). Some of the necessary maps are contained in the

software, the remaining maps can be downloaded and installed

automatically from internet (menu: load Maps -> download maps

from internet).

Runways can be shown as well, if the necessary files were

downloaded from www.jetvision.de .

For setting up the user position turn the map with holding the left

mouse button to the desired current location and fix it with the menu

button "set receiver location" (see picture). Then save your settings

under menu “File” -> “save as” or “save default”.

Remarks to Linux

The GNS 5890 works under Linux as serial device. But the GNS 5890

must be loaded with the following command: $sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x04D8 product=0xF8E8

Please use the settings of AVR receiver: Please start PlanePlotter, go to Options --> Mode-S Receiver ---> AVR Receiver --> set COM port Set your COM port to the right value, you can leave the Baudrate as it is 115.200. Now you can also use PlanePlotter with GNS 5890.

Introduction

Le GNS 5890 est le plus petit récepteur dans le monde entier ADS-B

avec une connectivité USB. Tous nos produits sont testés de manière

intensive avant de quitter l'usine. Lisez attentivement les

informations suivantes pour assurer un fonctionnement sans

problème et une fonctionnalité optimale.

GNS 5890 ADS-B récepteur est équipé d'un circuit à haute sensibilité

pour 1090 MHz ADS-B.

Le GNS 5890 permet l'utilisation du système de radar virtuel ADS-B.

Consignes de sécurité

Protéger le GNS 5890 de l'humidité; observer les limites de

températures de fonctionnement et de stockage.

Ne pas exposer le GNS 5890 à la lumière du soleil ou à la

chaleur.

Ne pas ouvrir ou modifier. Le non-respect se traduira par

l’annulation de la garantie. Il n'y a aucun composant à

l'intérieur qui peut être réparé par l'utilisateur.

Connecter uniquement le GNS 5890 aux types de connecteurs

décrits dans ces instructions.

Ensuite, Windows affiche l'assistant matériel.

Installez le pilote USB de GNS 5890 de notre site Web.

A présent va se créer un port COM virtuel, qui est nécessaire

pour utiliser le logiciel.

Installation des pilotes sous Windows 7/8

1 INTRODUCTION

Ce correctif de pilote permet d’exécuter l’ADS_B Stick USB 5890 sur

Windows 7 et Windows 8.

Le pilote générique a eu quelques problèmes, ce qui est la cause de

certaines instabilités sur certains systèmes.

L'installation du patch doit être effectuée en quelques étapes qui sont

décrites dans ce manuel.

Applications

L’update Procédure décrit ici est destiné à assurer une stabilité

opérationnelle de GNS 5890 ADS-B récepteur sur Win7 et

Win8 système. Pas d'autres dispositifs / systèmes

d'exploitation sont couverts ou testés pour fonctionner avec

cette solution.

Remarks

La procédure doit être effectuée manuellement. Suivez s'il

vous plaît les instructions de soins entièrement étape par

étape. GNS n'est pas responsable des effets secondaires

résultant d'un comportement inattendu de votre système.

Redémarrez votre ordinateur avant d'effectuer le correctif et

fermez toutes les applications en cours d'exécution avant de

commencer.

Télécharger GNS package de pilote 5890 et extraire l'archive

ZIP dans un dossier sur l'ordinateur

Lancer le fichier "setup.exe" à partir de ce répertoire

2 Pilote procédure de mise à jour

1. Si c'est la première fois que vous installez 5890, suivez

d'abord la procédure d'installation standard pour 5890 à partir du

menu de configuration.

2. Insérez votre ADSB récepteur 5890 à un port USB libre

3. Maintenant Installez le pilote USB modifié pour Win 7/8/10:

a. Ouvrez le Gestionnaire de périphériques dans le Panneau de configuration dans Windows 7/8.

b. Avec le Gestionnaire de périphériques ouvert, recherchez le GNS 5890 ADS-B récepteur que vous souhaitez et activez en cliquant une fois sur le bouton.

c. Mettez alors à jour les pilotes par un double clic sur le nom ou l'icône du matériel et sélectionnez « Propriétés ». Dans cette fenêtre, cliquez sur la case d’option « Pilote ».

d. Cliquez sur le bouton « mettre à jour le pilote ». Remarque: L'assistant de mise à jour logicielle du pilote commencera.

e. Sur la page « Comment voulez-vous rechercher un pilote logiciel? » Fenêtre, cliquez sur Parcourir mon ordinateur pour logiciel pilote.

f. Dans la fenêtre suivante, marquez « Parcourir un pilote logiciel » sur votre ordinateur, cliquez sur « Me laisser choisir parmi une liste de pilotes de périphériques sur mon ordinateur », situé au bas de la fenêtre.

g. Cliquez sur le Disque ... bouton situé sous la zone de texte. h. Cliquez sur le bouton Parcourir ... bouton "Installer à partir du

disque" boîte de dialogue qui apparaît. Dans la boîte de dialogue Rechercher le fichier qui apparaît à côté, accédez au dossier que vous avez extrait dans le cadre du téléchargement de pilote et choisir le dossier "Win7 & 8_USBdriver_patch".

i. Cliquez sur un fichier INF qui s'affiche dans la liste des fichiers et cliquez sur le bouton Ouvrir.

j. L'assistant de Windows 7 Software Update Driver va maintenant utiliser les instructions fournies dans le fichier INF de l'étape 10 pour installer les pilotes mis à jour pour votre matériel.

k. Suivez les instructions supplémentaires sur l'écran pour terminer la mise à jour du pilote.

Installation du logiciel (adsbSCOPE)

S'il vous plaît installer adsbSCOPE dans le menu de

configuration sur votre ordinateur. Ensuite, vous pouvez

commencer adsbSCOPE de l'icône du bureau ou du menu du

programme Windows en un seul clic.

Pour les réglages du port COM cliquez sur le bouton «Select

COM Port»

Port : “X” “X” est le port COM virtuel de GNS 5890

sur votre système Windows, voir la page

15 (par exemple “4” , “6” ou autre)

Baud Rate : 115.200

Après le clic sur le bouton "Connect", vous verrez les données

et la position sur l'écran.

La LED bleue en GNS 5890 s'allume pour chaque trame reçue

ADS-B.

adsbSCOPE

adsbSCOPE reçoit ADS-B-cadres du décodeur (via un port COM

virtuel) et décode les données. Il identifie l'avion et calcule leurs

positions. Tous les paramètres importants sont présentés sous forme

alphanumérique, dans le tableau et écran graphique.

adsbSCOPE répertorie tous les aéronefs détectés dans un tableau (à

droite). Tous les avions aux coordonnées connues sont montrés dans

un affichage graphique (à gauche).

Le graphique montre:

- Le globe du monde avec la latitude et la longitude - Les côtes de tous les continents - La position de plus de 4000 aéroports - Certaines grandes villes - Pistes de tous les aéronefs détectés marqués avec l'altitude, la vitesse, identificateur, titre, bruit ...

- OpenStreetMap-carte comme une image de fond

Les grandes lignes et les noms de tous les Etats du monde peuvent

être superposées (Menu: load Maps). Certaines des cartes

nécessaires sont contenues dans le logiciel, les cartes restantes

peuvent être téléchargées et installées automatiquement à partir

d'Internet (Menu: load Maps -> download maps from internet).

Runways peuvent être montrés ainsi, les fichiers nécessaires étant

été téléchargés auparavant sur www.jetvision.de.

Pour définir la position de la GNS 5890 sur la carte, faire pivoter la

carte avec le bouton gauche de la souris sur la position actuelle

souhaitée, fixer avec l'élément de menu "set receiver location" (voir

illustration) et enregistrer la position du point de menu "Fichier" ->

"save position" ou "save default".

Note sur Linux

Le GNS 5890 fonctionne sous Linux en série périphérique. Mais le

S'il vous plaît commencer PlanePlotter, aller à Options --> Mode-S Receiver ---> AVR Receiver --> set COM port Définir votre port COM à la juste valeur, vous pouvez laisser la vitesse de transmission comme il est 115.200. Maintenant, vous pouvez également utiliser PlanePlotter avec GNS 5890.

Anschluss. Alle unsere Produkte werden intensiv vor dem Verlassen

des Werkes getestet. Bitte lesen Sie die folgenden Informationen

sorgfältig durch, um eine problemlose Bedienung und optimale

Funktionalität zu gewährleisten.

GNS 5890 ADS-B-Receiver ist mit einer hoch empfindlichen 1090 MHz

ADS-B-Empfangseinheit ausgestattet.

Der GNS 5890 ermöglicht die Nutzung des virtuellen Radarsystem

ADS-B.

Sicherheitshinweise

Schützen Sie den GNS 5890 vor Feuchtigkeit und halten Sie

die Betriebs- und Aufbewahrungstemperaturlimits ein.

Setzen Sie den GNS 5890 nicht direktem Sonnenlicht oder

Hitze aus.

Öffnen oder modifizieren Sie den GNS 5890 nicht. Bei

Nichtbeachtung verfallen die Garantie- und Gewährleistungs-

Ansprüche. Im Innern des GNS 5890 sind keine Teile, die

Es wird nun ein virtueller COM-Port für die GNS 5890 auf

Ihrem PC erzeugt, den Sie in der Software (s.u.) als Anschluss

für den GNS 5890 angeben müssen.

1 Einleitung

Dieser Treiber-Patch ermöglicht den stabilen Betrieb des GNS 5890

ADS-B-USB-Sticks unter Windows 7 / 8 /10.

Denn der generische Treiber verursachte einige Probleme, welche die

Ursache für einige Instabilitäten des Betriebsystems waren.

Die Installation des Patches wird in wenigen Schritten durchgeführt,

die im Folgenden in diesem Manual beschrieben werden.

Anwendungen

Der hier beschriebene Update-Vorgang soll einen stabilen

Betrieb des GNS 5890 ADS-B-Empfänger unter Windows

7/8/10 -Systemen gewährleisten. Keine anderen Geräte /

Betriebssysteme sind von dieser Lösung betroffen oder wurden

getestet.

Bemerkungen

Voraussetzung

Laden Sie das GNS 5890 Treiberpaket von unserer Web-Seite

auf Ihren PC und entpacken das ZIP-Archiv in ein Verzeichnis.

Starten Sie aus diesem Verzeichnis „setup.exe“

2 Treiber-Update-Prozedur

4. Wenn der GNS 5890 zum ersten Mal installiert wird, folgen Sie

bitte dem Installations-Prozess vom Setup-Menü.

5. Stecken Sie anschließend Ihren GNS 5890 ADS-B Receiver in

eine freie USB-Buchse.

6. Jetzt installieren Sie den modifizierten USB-Treiber für Win

7/8/10 folgendermaßen:

a. Öffnen Sie den Geräte-Manager in dem System-Fenster von

Windows 7/8/10 (dies wird gestartet mit gleichzeitig

gedrückter Windows-Taste & Pause-Taste). b. Im geöffneten Geräte-Manager, den GNS 5890 ADS-B

Receiver-Namen finden und durch einen Klick auswählen. c. Mit Doppelklick auf den GNS 5890-Namen das

„Eigenschaften-Fenster“ des GNS 5890 aufrufen und die Registerkarte „Treiber“ mit einem Klick auswählen.

d. Klicken Sie dann auf den „Treiber aktualisieren...“ Knopf. Das Treiber-Update-Programm startet jetzt.

e. Im Menü „Treibersoftware aktualisieren...“ klicken Sie auf „Auf den Computer nach Treibersoftware suchen“.

f. Im nächsten Fenster, überschrieben mit “An diesem Ort nach Treibersoftware suchen”, wählen Sie “Durchsuchen“ aus. Klicken Sie nun auf den “Durchsuchen...”-Knopf unten.

g. Im jetzt erscheinenden „Ordner suchen“-Fenster wählen Sie das Verzeichnis aus, im dem Sie die Treiber entpackt haben und wählen Sie „Win7&8_USBdriver_patch“ aus und bestätigen Sie dies mit dem OK-Knopf.

h. Nun klicken Sie im vorherigen Fenster auf „Weiter“. i. Die Windows Treiber-Update-Routine wird jetzt den

Anweisungen in der INF-Datei folgend den aktualisierten

Treiber für die Hardware installieren. j. Folgen Sie bitte den zusätzlichen Anweisungen auf dem

Bildschirm, um das Treiber-Update erfolgreich zu vervollständigen.

Software-Installation (adsbSCOPE)

Bitte installieren Sie adsbSCOPE über das Setup-Menü auf

Ihrem Computer. Anschließend können Sie adsbSCOPE über

das Desktop-Icon oder aus dem Windows-Programm-Menü mit

einem Klick starten.

Für die COM-Port-Einstellungen klicken Sie auf die Schaltfläche

„Select COM Port“.

Port : “X” “X” ist der virtuelle COM-Port des GNS

5890 auf dem Windows-System, siehe

Seite 25 (zum Beispiel “4” , “6”).

Baud Rate : 115.200

Nach einem Klick auf den “Connect”-Knopf werden die

empfangenen Datensätze auf dem Bildschirm sichtbar.

Die blaue LED des GNS 5890 leuchtet bei jedem empfangenen

ADS-B-Frame auf.

adsbSCOPE

adsbSCOPE übernimmt die empfangenen Daten des Decoders an der

(virtuellen) COM-Schnittstelle und decodiert sie.

adsbSCOPE listet alle empfangenen Flugzeuge in einer Tabelle auf

(rechte Seite). Alle Flugzeuge mit bekannten Koordinaten werden in

der linken Kartenansicht dargestellt.

Dargestellt werden:

- die gesamte Welt mit Breiten- und Längengraden - die Küstenlinien aller Kontinente - die Position von über 4000 Flughäfen - die Position einiger wichtiger Städte - die Flugbahnen aller lokalisierten Flugzeuge mit Flughöhe und Geschwindigkeit - wenn vorhanden: Kennung und Typ des Flugzeugs

- open-street-map-Karten als Hintergrundbild

Es können zusätzlich Ländergrenzen und Namen fast aller Länder der

Welt eingeblendet werden (Menü: load Maps).

Einige der dazu nötigen Karten sind im Lieferumfang enthalten,

weitere Karten können auf Wunsch automatisch aus dem Internet

heruntergeladen und installiert werden (Menü: load Maps ->

download maps from Internet).

Die Lage von Start- und Landebahnen können dargestellt werden,

wenn die nötigen Dateien von www.jetvision.de heruntergeladen

werden.

Um die Position des GNS 5890 auf der Karte festzulegen, drehen

Sie den Kartenausschnitt mit gedrückter linker Maustaste auf die

gewünschte aktuelle Position, fixieren diese mit dem Menü-Punkt

“set receiver location” (siehe Abbildung) und speichern die Position über den Menü-Punkt “File” -> “save position” oder “save default”.

Anmerkung zu Linux

Der GNS 5890 kann unter Linux als virtuelles serielles Gerät

verwendet werden. Dafür muß der GNS 5890 mit folgendem

Kommando geladen werden: $sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x04D8 product=0xF8E8

Abschlussbemerkung

Für den optimalen Empfang muss die ADS-B-Antenne eine freie Sicht

zum Himmel haben. Der GNS 5890 ist auch kompatibel zur Software PlanePlotter: www.coaa.co.uk/planeplotter.htm

Dabei sind die Einstellungen des AVR-Receivers zu verwenden: Bitte starten Sie PlanePlotter und öffnen Sie den Menü-Punkt Options --> Mode-S Receiver ---> AVR Receiver --> set COM port. Stellen Sie den COM-Port auf entsprechenden Wert und belassen Sie die Baudrate bei 115,200. Jetzt können Sie die Software PlanePlotter mit dem GNS 5890 verwenden.
