THE CHAMELEON PRODUCT LINE

COVERS ALMOST EVERY NEED FOR

CABLE-TV AND SMATV DISTRIBUTION

WITH ONLY ONE HARDWARE.

The different inputs, processing and outputs are defined by software op-tions, and all software options can be updated at any time. The CHAMELEON MPEG encoder GNHWENCW is compatible with any Chameleon base unit, and can be

combined with Chameleon modules or used stand-alone. The CHAMELEON encoder supports audio/video base band inputs as well as it supports SDI and HD-SDI inputs with embedded audio. The CHAME-LEON encoder has IP and ASI outputs for the transport streams, and can en-code in MPEG-4 SD and HD.

6. THE CHAMELEON ENCODER CONNECTORS

IP connectors for Management and StreamingThe CHAMELEON encoder has 3 GigE IP ports. When mounted in a GN50 base unit, both Management and Streaming are using the backplane connector (SGMII). This connector is situated behind the front panel, and for GN50 mounting the front panel shall be removed. For other base units, there are 2 RJ45 ports at the front of the unit; the top Management port (eth1) and the bottom Streaming port (eth0).

Connectors for A/V, SD/HD-SDI and ASIAt the rear of the CHAMELEON encoder, there are input and output connectors. From bottom and up:

ASI out for TS output (F connector)

Input for HD-SDI, SDI 1 or baseband video 1 (BNC). When encoding HD-SDI , only one input is used, and this input has to use this connector. This connector is referred to as “Physical port One” in the UI.

Audio input for HD-SDI, SDI1 or baseband video 1 (3.5 mm jack).

Input for SDI 2 or baseband video 2 (BNC). This connector is referred to as “Physical port Two” in the UI.

Audio input for SDI2 or baseband video 2 (3.5 mm jack).

LED indicators for SDI or Video inThe right side of the rear of the CHAMELEON encoder had 2 LED indicators that will show green on detected HD-SDI, SDI or baseband video input.

8. ENCODING SETTINGS

Video settings1. Set the Video bitrate mode. VBR mode allows for the video bitrate to vary depending on

content. CBR mode forces video bitrate to constant bitrate given by the Video target bitrate.

2. Set the Video target bitrate in kbit/s

3. Set the Video max bitrate in kbit/s. The Video max bitrate must be larger than the Video target bitrate.

4. Select Profile (Baseline/Main/High)

5. Select Number of consecutive B frames (1 or 2)

6. Select the GOP length (30 or 60)

7. Set the Coded picture buffer size in kB. For high quality set the buffer size equal to the target or max video bitrate, for low latency set it to half of the target bitrate.

Note that audio input will

have to be connected via the

3,5 mm jack corresponding

to the BNC (physical port)

connector.
