St Ninian’s PS – Primary 1 Home Learning Grid Week 3 Literacy Spelling We are focusing on the ‘j’ sound this week. This is a green sound because it comes from more than 1 part of your mouth. Try counting to 20 and then to 100. Try starting and stopping at different numbers e.g. start at 12 and stop at 42. Watch the big numbers song on youtube (Type big numbers song into youtube to find it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0dJWfQHF8Y Ask an adult to pause the video at random points and think of the number that comes before and after the number paused at. Complete the missing numbers in the ‘Missing Numbers Worksheet Week 3’ worksheets uploaded on the blog. There are 2 different worksheets for you to try. Number Talks Look at the 10 frame and rekenrek below and tell an adult how many different ways you can see the amount:

When you have finished reading the story use the book report template which has been posted on the blog to complete a book report.

Writing

Create a story about an alien who leaves the moon and visits one of your favourite places?What does the alien look like?How did the alien get to this place?What did the alien do when it got there?Is the alien going to stay or go back to a planet?What does the planet look like?

Make sure you follow the success criteria below:Leave a finger space

between words.Spells sight words

correctly.Use capital letters and

full stops.Use awareness of sounds to sound out unfamiliar

words.

Listening and TalkingListen to some e-books on the oxford owl website

Do an online search for ‘math learning center, number rack’ and use the rekenrek to create 7 as many different ways you can think of.

MathsWatch the video ‘Learn to Tell Time #1’ on youtube.Why is it important to learn how to tell the time? Can you find different things in your house that show the time?

Adults – every ‘o’clock time’ that you notice ask your child what time it is.Why don’t you draw a picture of a clock or watch in your jotter and draw the time ‘4 o’clock’ on it.

Health and Wellbeing

Sometimes you might feel like you are missing your friends from school if you are not able to see them. Why don’t you draw a picture or make a card for your friend to show how important they are to you.

Can you think how you are different to some of your friends from school? We are all unique and different. Maybe you can think of some similarities to your friends.

This would be an ideal opportunity to talk to your child about respect for their body and what behaviour is right and wrong.

Over this week can you try a

When you are playing with some toys, try to find toys that have bits on them you can push or pull. Sort out your toys into push or pull categories. Did you have any toys that you can push and pull?
