“Move Over Law”Now Applies to RoadConstruction VehiclesOhio’s “Move Over Law” now requires motorists to slow down and, as conditions permit, move to the next lane, when approaching construction or maintenance vehicles on the roadside with flashing, oscillating or rotating lights. Like the previous law, the new law also applies when approaching police, emergency vehicles and tow trucks.

Be Safe in the Work ZoneKnow before you go. Check pavingtheway.org, Paving the Way’s Facebook and Twitter and OHGO.com to know when to plan for construction delays.

Expect the unexpected. Work zones can change from day to day. Slow down and drive with extra caution when you see orange barrels or signs indicating construction ahead.

Watch for equipment and workers. Work zones can be busy places. Be alert for signs and slow down for equipment, workers and other cars, bikes and pedestrians.

Slow down. Work zones have lower speed limits for a reason. Narrow lanes, unexpected merges and construction activity call for a lower speed. Fines are doubled for speeding in active work zones in Ohio.

Road construction work zone rules apply to pedestrians as well as cyclists and motorists. Don’t bypass a pedestrian detour. It’s dangerous and it’s against the law.

Share the RoadShare the Road is a safety campaign created by Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman to encourage more people to ride their bicycles to work and school, and for fun. It is also a reminder that under Ohio law and City Code, cars and bicycles must share the road legally and safely. Columbus, ODOT and others continue to make investments to make roadways safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

22Sidewalks will be built on Chatterton Road between Dunloe and Reynard roads. Work includes road widening and sidewalk construction. Traffic will be

23The bridge deck will be replaced on Central College Road over Blacklick Creek. The road will be closed and detoured during construction. June 2014 to October 2014

32Emerald Parkway is being extended from Riverside Drive to north of Bright Road. A roundabout will be construct-ed on Bright Road to connect with the new Emerald

Parkway extension. Bright Road will be closed to through traffic. Expect some delays on the Bright Road detour. June 2014 to Novem-ber 2014 (Dublin)

33Improvements will be made to Broadway (US 62) between Grove City Road and Columbus Street. Expect short-term side street closures. March 2014 to June 2014

34White Road will be reconstructed between Hoover Road and west of McDowell Road. White Road will be closed to through traffic. Spring 2014 to Fall 2014 (Franklin County/

Grove City/Jackson Township)

35A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Main Street (US 62) and Market Street in New Albany. Expect a 90 day road closure of East Main Street at Market

36The bridge deck replacement at Big Run South Road over I-270 (west of US 62/Broadway) continues. Expect a 60-day closure of Big Run Road and lane restrictions on

I-270. October 2013 to October 2014 (ODOT)

37Intersection improvement continues at the intersection of Powell Road (S.R. 750) and S.R. 315. A full closure of the west leg of the intersection is in place for 60 days.

August 2013 to Spring 2014 (ODOT)

38Bridge replacement will take place on S.R. 605 over Duncan Run (immediately north of Duncan Run Road). S.R. 605 and Duncan Run will both be closed for approxi-

mately 50 days. April 2014 to August 2014 (ODOT)

39Widening continues on I-270 between I-71 and US 23 on the south side. Expect lane restrictions and ramp closures. August 2013 to September 2014 (ODOT)

40Alum Creek Drive will be widened between East Howard Road and the I-270 eastbound ramp. Expect various lane restrictions. April 2014 to July 2015 (ODOT)

41Construction continues on the Mound Street Connector project, including a new ramp from westbound I-70 to East Mound Street and the replacement of the South 18th

Street bridge over I-70. Expect nighttime lane and ramp closures on I-70 and restrictions on East Mound Street and South 18th Street. After the new ramp opens, the ramp from I-70 west to South 4th Street will close permanently. September 2013 to September 2014 (ODOT)

42Construction continues on the I-270/US 23 North Side Fix project, which includes reconfiguring the ramps at the interchange and widening North High Street (US 23)

between I-270 and Lazelle Road. Two northbound express lanes will be added on North High Street beginning immediately north of I-270 and ending south of Northwoods Boulevard. Expect lane closures on North High Street, and various lane and ramp closures on I-270 during non-rush hours. July 2013 to June 2016 (ODOT)

43The I-70/Hilliard-Rome Road interchange will be realigned. Expect various lane closures beginning in October 2014. May 2014 to October 2015. (ODOT)

44The bridge deck will be replaced on the ramp from westbound I-70 to northbound S.R. 315. Expect a 21-day ramp closure. August 2014 to October 2014 (ODOT)

45S.R. 104 will be resurfaced from Frank Road to just west of US 33. Expect lane closures during restricted hours. April 2014 to October 2014 (ODOT)

46I-670 will be resurfaced between I-70 and just east of US 23. Expect short term lane closures and nighttime ramp closures. August 2014 to November 2014 (ODOT)

47Rickenbacker Parkway continues to be widened and reconstructed between Second Street and S.R. 317 (London-Groveport Road). A shared-use path is also

included in this project. June 2013 to December 2014 (Columbus Regional Airport Authority)

48Work continues on the resurfacing and addition of a third lane on I-71 between north of US 36 in Delaware County and S.R. 61 in Morrow County. Two lanes of traffic

will be maintained in each direction with additional lane closures at night. July 2012 to October 2014 (ODOT)

49I-70 bridge replacement project at Canal Road (near Buckeye Lake) continues. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times. April 2013 to August 2014 (ODOT)

50Some final work remains on the Columbus Crossroads rebuilding of the I-71/I-670 interchange. Two lanes of traffic are maintained in each direction. Expect various

lane and ramp closures. June 2011 to Summer 2014 (ODOT)

51Construction of the Scioto Greenways project continues. Several closures and detours are posted for the Scioto Trail. The major trail closures are between North Bank Park and

Broad Street, and between Bicentennial Park and the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, on the east side of the Scioto, as well as between Veterans Memorial and Dodge Park on the west side of the Scioto. Fall 2013 to Fall 2015 (Columbus)  

52ODOT, Columbus, Franklin County and many other jurisdictions have significant resurfacing programs planned for the 2014 construction season. Check

21A shared-use path will be installed on Valleyview Drive between Valleyview Elementary School and Westmoor Middle School and Hague Avenue, and a

32Emerald Parkway is being extended from Riverside Drive to north of Bright Road. A roundabout will be construct-ed on Bright Road to connect with the new Emerald

41Construction continues on the Mound Street Connector project, including a new ramp from westbound I-70 to East Mound Street and the replacement of the South 18th

Street bridge over I-70. Expect nighttime lane and ramp closures on I-70 and restrictions on East Mound Street and South 18th Street. After the new ramp opens, the ramp from I-70 west to South 4th Street will close permanently. September 2013 to September 2014 (ODOT)

42Construction continues on the I-270/US 23 North Side Fix project, which includes reconfiguring the ramps at the interchange and widening North High Street (US 23)

between I-270 and Lazelle Road. Two northbound express lanes will be added on North High Street beginning immediately north of I-270 and ending south of Northwoods Boulevard. Expect lane closures on North High Street, and various lane and ramp closures on I-270 during non-rush hours. July 2013 to June 2016 (ODOT)

43The I-70/Hilliard-Rome Road interchange will be realigned. Expect various lane closures beginning in October 2014. May 2014 to October 2015. (ODOT)

44The bridge deck will be replaced on the ramp from westbound I-70 to northbound S.R. 315. Expect a 21-day ramp closure. August 2014 to October 2014 (ODOT)

45S.R. 104 will be resurfaced from Frank Road to just west of US 33. Expect lane closures during restricted hours. April 2014 to October 2014 (ODOT)

46I-670 will be resurfaced between I-70 and just east of US 23. Expect short term lane closures and nighttime ramp closures. August 2014 to November 2014 (ODOT)

47Rickenbacker Parkway continues to be widened and reconstructed between Second Street and S.R. 317 (London-Groveport Road). A shared-use path is also

48Work continues on the resurfacing and addition of a third lane on I-71 between north of US 36 in Delaware County and S.R. 61 in Morrow County. Two lanes of traffic

51Construction of the Scioto Greenways project continues. Several closures and detours are posted for the Scioto Trail. The major trail closures are between North Bank Park and

Broad Street, and between Bicentennial Park and the Scioto Audubon Metro Park, on the east side of the Scioto, as well as between Veterans Memorial and Dodge Park on the west side of the Scioto. Fall 2013 to Fall 2015 (Columbus)  

52ODOT, Columbus, Franklin County and many other jurisdictions have significant resurfacing programs planned for the 2014 construction season. Check
