The digital terrestrial standard DVBT allows toreceive by a decoder(not supplied), with the same high definition as on the digital satellite TV, many of free on air channels and someone’s onthe pay per view base, thanks to a rechargeable card. Polaris is able to receive both vertical and horizontal polarized TV signals thanks to the effi-cacy of its directive antenna element. The 60° (max gain) directional reception angle, avoid all the interferences coming from the reflected signals,for example sailboat masts, cranes, buildings etc. in the area. The electric orientation of the antenna through its remote control allow to perform6 dB gain (about 3 times more gain than an omnidirectional antenna) and also to still have 0 dB gain on a 220° angle (same typical gain of an omni-directional) without any interference and ensuring a clear and continuous vision of preferred TV programs. It comes with two amplifiers -one inter-nal and one external for enhanced performances, both having low noise factor and the bypass so in a area where the DVBt signal is very stronglike a town, frequently an amplified signal cannot be received on digital TV as it is deteriorated from the amplification and to reduce the amplifergain to solve the problem isnt enough. 50030 AMPLIFIER BY-PASSEXCLUSIVE BY-PASS, it makes possible to obtain optimal reception signal management under any condition. This exclusive bypasssolution is not only unique but is the only solution available today for the problem of receiver saturation by a too strong signal, asituation that makes TV viewing impossible. In fact, this problem of overly strong signals is encountered in proximity to TV repea-ters or excessive amplification sources. Another characteristic of the bypass is to reduce the interference from onboard applian-ces or from inferior quality power sources: these types of interference normally affect the video portion of digital terrestrial signalscreating a noise that can cancel the digital signal from the screen.

Awrong antenna, poor quality coaxcable or a low quality connectorcan waste the money spent forgood equipment and a carefulinstallation. At every frequency,besides being free from obstacles,the antenna has to meet preciseelectrical and electronic require-ments. Glomex has always madeevery effort to develop design andmanufacturing qualities to impro-ve antenna performance; besidescomplying with existing internatio-nal standards. This means betterperformance of the entire transcei-ver system. POLARIZATION

Each antenna has its own polariza-tion, and also its preferential wor-king plane, to be respected asmuch as possible. For example VHF,SSB, Loran, CB and cell-phoneantennas have a vertical polariza-tion and decrease gradually theirgain, increasing their inclination;furthermore the factor is influen-ced by the frequency, gain lossesare greater with high frequenciesand progressively diminish redu-cing the frequency.Accordingly with the great majori-ty of the stations, the TV antennashave a horizontal polarization, it istherefore necessary to install themin such a position. The incidence ofmotion is less evident with theomnidirectional models; the direc-tional models have a receptionangle max 60° that gives excellentperformance if the antennas arecorrectly oriented but can easilylose the signal due to rolling, pit-ching or inclination. All this meanstelevision antennas must be instal-led horizontally and other anten-nas as much vertical as you possi-ble.

COAX CABLE CUTTING

Cutting the Glomex antenna coaxcable is not a problem, just remem-ber that a shorter cable enhancethe performance of the antenna.The cable can be cut following asimple rule, do not cut the cableless than 2 mts (7’) on VHF antenna.Avoid to cut the cable on CB and TVAntennas.

DC GROUND

It’s referred to the design of theantenna, to avoid static electricitybuildup on the antenna element, inorder to reduce the noises on thereceiver. When tested with an ohm-meter all Glomex VHF, cell-phoneand CB Antennas will show conti-nuity.All Glomex VHF and CB antennashave a built-in DC ground.

SWR

(Stationary Wave Return)All the SWR ratios indicated in thiscatalogue depend on the antennalocation on the boat. All antennashave to be clear in all directionsand at least 1 meter away frommetallic parts. The SWR, whentested, should not exceed 1:1,3with the antenna installed on theboat.

EGS

GENERALITESUn appareil de réception ou deradio transmission est composé detrois parties distinctes, toutes troisimportantes: l’appareil Emetteur /Récepteur, le câble coaxial avecl’ensemble de connecteurs et l’an-tenne. Câbles, connecteurs etantennes sont encore aujourd’huides éléments souvent négligés.Et pourtant leur bon fonctionne-ment à une grande importance,notamment sur tout le système.Une antenne ou un câble coaxial demauvaise qualité peut rendre inuti-le l’investissement et les soins por-tés à l’installation de l’appareil.Pour chaque fréquence, l’antenne,en plus d’être performante danstoutes les directions, doit avoir lesqualités électriques et électroniquesrequises. Glomex s’est toujoursemployé à respecter toutes ces nor-mes internationales déjà existantes,développant ainsi les qualités duprojet et de la construction qui peu-vent contribuer à mettre en valeurles prestations de l’antenne et ainside la totalité de l’appareil Emetteur/Récepteur. Pour le choix d’uneantenne, il est opportun de discuteravec le vendeur ou l’installateur desproblèmes spécifiques concernantle montage de l’appareil choisi. Aucas ou cela ne serait pas possible, lesinformations qui suivent peuventêtre utiles comme critères de basepour la sélection de l’antenne.

HAUTEURPour les transmissions VHF et UHF,de manière générale, plus l’antenneest grande, meilleurs sont les résul-tats. En suivant de telles indications,de mauvais choix ne peuvent êtrecommis.En choisissant les accessoires et lescâbles d’origine Glomex et en étantattentif aux différentes phases del’installation, on obtient les meilleu-res performances.

GAINC’est la caractéristique techniqueprincipale d’une antenne. Il estexprimé en DB, plus il augmente,plus la portée utile de la communi-cation augmente. Par ailleurs, ungain élevé réduit l’ampleur du dia-gramme de rayonnement. Ce quisignifie qu’avec des gains bas, laréception et la transmission estmoins parasitée par le roulis et letangage même si la portée est infé-rieure. Au fur et à mesure que legain augmente, on a une portée

meilleure, mais les mouvements dubateau, roulis, tangages, peuventprovoquer une atténuation tempo-raire du signal reçu. Pour ces rai-sons, sur les bateaux à moteur, quisont moins sujets aux roulis et auxtangages, il est conseillé d’utiliserles antennes à haut gain. Au con-traire, sur les voiliers où la tête demât peut subir des oscillationsimportantes, il est préférable d’uti-liser, dans la mesure du possible, desantennes plan de masse (RA108).

POLARISATIONChaque antenne a une polarisation,c’est à dire un plan préférentiel defonctionnement qui doit êtrerespecté.Par exemple, les antennes VHF,radiotéléphone cellulaire, BLU,LORAN, ont des polarisations verti-cales et diminuent progressivementleur gain lorsque l’inclinaison aug-mente.De plus, le phénomène est accentuépar la fréquence. Les antennes TVont, en accord avec la majorité desstations émettrices, des polarisa-tions horizontales et il est doncindispensable de travailler seloncette polarisation.Dans le cas d’antennes omnidirec-tionnelles, le phénomène est légè-rement moins évident que pour lesantennes directionnelles, qui ont unangle de réception de 60°, et ontd’excellents résultats si correcte-ment orientés, mais qui peuventfacilement perdre le signal en casde roulis ou tangages. Cela signifieque les antennes TV doivent êtreinstallées le plus verticalement pos-sible.

COUPE DU CABLE COAXIALCouper le câble des antennesGlomex n’est pas un problème, maiscoupé un câble trop court, réduitles performances de l’antenne.Laisser 2 mètres minimum de câblepour une antenne VHF.Eviter de couper le câble d’uneantenne CB ou TV.

LIAISON MASSELa qualité de fabrication des anten-nes évite l’accumulation d’électrici-té statique sur l’élément actif etréduit de ce fait, le bruit au niveaudu récepteur.En conséquence, le test des anten-nes VHF ou CB Glomex avec unohmmètre donne une mesure decontinuité.Liaison masse ne veut pas dire quel’antenne doit être connectée à lamasse mais que les antennesGlomex VHF et CB GSM sont couplé-es la masse du câble coaxial.

SWR(Stationary Wave Return)Toutes les mesures indiquées sur cecatalogue dépendent de la positionde l’antenne sur votre bateau.Toutes les antennes doivent êtredégagées au maximum et éloignéesd’un mètre au minimum de toutepièce métallique. Un apparato trasmittente e/o rice-vente è composto da tre partidistinte: l’apparecchio ricetrasmit-tente, il cavo coassiale ed i connet-tori di collegamento all’antenna.Cavi, connettori ed antenna, sonoancora oggi, elementi spesso tra-scurati, eppure influenzano moltole prestazioni.Per ogni frequenza, l’antenna,oltre ad essere libera in ogni dire-zione, deve avere precisi requisitielettrici ed elettronici e Glomex èda sempre impegnata per il costan-te sviluppo e la ricerca di nuovesoluzioni evolutive. Nella scelta di un’antenna è oppor-tuno discutere con il dealer e/o l’in-stallatore, il dettaglio del montag-gio in relazione all’apparato scelto.Se ciò non è possibile, alcuni chiari-menti che seguono possono essereutili come criteri di base nella sele-zione dell’antenna giusta.

ALTEZZA

Per le trasmissioni VHF e UHF, ingenere a maggiore altezza dell’an-tenna corrispondono migliori pre-stazioni. Per ogni configurazioneabbiamo quindi provveduto a ren-dere schematicamente l’imbarca-zione ottimale di utilizzo di ogniantenna Glomex. Seguendo taleindicazione difficilmente si compio-no scelte errate: saranno la sceltadegli accessori e dei cavi originaliGlomex e la fase dell’installazionefattori determinanti per il migliorrisultato pratico.

GUADAGNO

È il dato saliente delle caratteristi-che tecniche di un’antenna. Èespresso in dB e con il suo crescereaumenta la portata della comuni-cazione. D’altra parte un guadagnoelevato riduce l’ampiezza del dia-gramma di radiazione: ciò significache con bassi guadagni la ricezionee la trasmissione sono menoinfluenzate da rollio e beccheggioanche se con portata minore, manmano che il gain cresce si ha unaportata maggiore ma rollio o bec-cheggio possono portare ad unadiminuzione del segnale. Per questimotivi su barche plananti è consi-gliabile l’impiego di antenne adalto guadagno. Su imbarcazioni a

vela invece è consigliabile un’an-tenna di tipo ground plane.(RA108)

POLARIZZAZIONE

Ogni antenna ha una sua polarizza-zione, ovvero un piano preferen-ziale di funzionamento che deveessere rispettato il più possibile. Peresempio, le antenne VHF, per tele-foni cellulari e SSB hanno polariz-zazione verticale e diminuiscono illoro guadagno all’aumentare del-l’inclinazione. Inoltre il fenomeno èinfluenzato dalla frequenza: le per-dite di guadagno sono maggiorialle alte frequenze e diminuisconopoi con la frequenza. Le antenne TV hanno polarizzazio-ne orizzontale ed è quindi indi-spensabile che lavorino in tale posi-zione.Nel caso delle omnidirezionali ilfenomeno è meno evidente che nelcaso delle direzionali, che hannoun angolo di ricezione tanto “stret-to” da permettere eccellenti risul-tati se ben orientate ma che, perrollio, beccheggio o inclinazione,possono facilmente “perdere” ilsegnale.

SUPPORTI ACCESSORI E INSTALLA-ZIONE

L’importanza di questi particolari èspesso sottovalutata! La serie degliaccessori Glomex è stata studiataper risolvere in modo corretto qual-siasi problematica di installazione.Anche per tali importanti comple-menti delear e tecnici sono ingrado di dare utili e precisi suggeri-menti.

ACCESSORI E CAVI COASSIALI

Accorciare i cavi coassiali Glomex,non dovrebbe crearvi dei problemi.Ricordate solamente che più uncavo è corto, più aumentano le per-formance dell’antenna. Il cavo puòessere tagliato seguendo una sem-plice regola, non tagliare i cavi piùcorti di due metri nelle antenneVHF. Evitare di accorciare i cavidelle antenne C.B. Non esistonoproblemi, invece, con i cavi delleantenne televisive.

DC GROUND DELL’ANTENNA

Misurando con un tester in Ohmun’antenna si verifica che vi è un

corto circuito. Tale soluzionecostruttiva serve per ridurre le cor-renti statiche che si possono crearenell’antenna senza ricorrere ad uncollegamento a massa e Glomexadotta questo schema per tutte lesue antenne. Grazie al circuitointerno che minimizza le correntistatiche, le antenne Glomex nonrichiedono un collegamenti amassa.

SWR

(Stationary Wave Return)È la parte di radiofrequenza chel’antenna non irradia a causa delritorno di onde stazionarie. Un rap-porto di 1.5:1 è considerato il mas-simo accettabile. Tutte le antenneGlomex hanno valori di SWRmigliori di tale valore. Tuttavia, ilritorno di onde stazionarie dipendeanche dalla posizione dell’antenna,che deve essere ad una distanzaminima di 1 m da qualsiasi altroelemento metallico. In situazionidiverse, il valore di SWR misuratopuò differire da quello misurato daGlomex nel collaudo
