AIESEC KOLKATA PRESENTS GLOBAL VILLAGE 2012!!
From The President's Desk
We speak of innovation and doing unexpected things, I'm glad we went
beyond the realm of the usual with Global Village 2012.
A simple concept of global diversity was given a new meaning through this event.
AIESEC Kolkata collaborated with La Martiniere for Girls, American Centre and
Faces Kolkata to go beyond the conventions and deliver an extremely interesting
and unique Global Village. The event saw a participation of more than 15 reputed
schools from the city, which interacted with AIESEC interns from 17 different
countries for a period of one month. Each school was allocated a particular
country and the interns spent invaluable time with them, teaching them their
native dances, songs and culture and all their hard work culminated into our 5
day cultural extravaganza.
The event saw the presence of thousands of students from the participating
schools and around 30 internationals. It helped define and re-define AIESEC to
every external partner present in the event. Not only did they see AIESEC in
its full glory, they also saw the life changing quality experiences we deliver to
our stakeholders. Global Village 2012 was conceptualized to involve schools more
actively with AIESEC and in the end, the event captured the imagination of the
every person present at the event, be it the media, our partners, the Principals
or the corporate guests present.
I feel proud to say that Global Village inspired and motivated so many individuals
and got them more keenly involved in world affairs, thus creating an impact and
awareness that is truly and uniquely AIESEC.
Regards,
Chirag Chhalani
President
AIESEC Kolkata
India

TRANSCENDING BOUNDARIES
A newspaper article about Global Village in an ITALIAN Daily!!
GLOBAL VILLAGE 2012 – A New Beginning!!
It had all started with a ‘Crazy’ idea from the Executive board when they
suggested that Global Village 2012 be held at La Martiniere for Girls School!! –
This is how Chirag Chhalani, the President of AIESEC Kolkata put it while
talking about
Global Village 2012!
19 schools, 30 Interns, 15 countries, thousands of students’ participating
– That’s how big Global Village 2012 was!! The five day event was one of the
biggest events of AIESEC Kolkata. The interns from the different countries
worked with the students of the participating schools, teaching them their
culture, their traditions and language. It was a global extravaganza in its true
sense.
For all of us AIESEC’ers, it was a truly new experience as never before
has Global Village been celebrated with so much of glamour, involving so many
big personalities and schools. The very fact that Global Village took place in La
Martiniere for Girls was itself a huge achievement and something that all of us
are proud and honored of. Global Village being inaugurated by Prof. Saugata Roy
(Hon. Minister of state for Urban Development, Govt. of India) was another
milestone for us indeed.
As much as organizing Global Village in such a grand scale was a new
learning experience for all of us, attending the event turned out to be an equally
enriching experience if not more. From getting to meet some of the most
promising and prominent personalities to getting to interact with interns from
the various countries and the thousands of students who participated, it was all
very overwhelming!
After having worked for days with all the preparations, we were all
getting to see what we had managed to deliver, and I must say it was indeed
impressive. Watching students representing different countries with their
performances, hearing them in the panel discussions – it was not only
interesting, but also informative as we got to know various new things about
these different countries and their cultures. The five days of the events were a
fun learning experience. Even with all the work, all of us managed to have an
amazing time making new friends and enjoying in our own small ways. Working,
enjoying performances and having fun, could the Global Village experience get
any more unique or better!!
Hearing all the dignitaries talk about AIESEC and praise our work was a
real honor for all of us. Being congratulated by people, people asking about our
organization, them wanting to know more about AIESEC; we knew that we had
been successful in taking AIESEC Kolkata to a new level as an organization.
People were indeed talking about AIESEC!!
We made our presence felt in every way – from jiving on stage to
announcing the winners in ‘AIESEC Style’ we did it all!! The five days ended very
quickly, leaving us asking for more! And we are sure there will be more such
events, bigger and better, especially with all the support that we got from
everyone involved with Global Village 2012!
Until the next time, ‘HEY AIESEC’!! – Am I hearing a chorus of ‘Watssup’!!
The Global Verdict!!
