About the Lingua Language Center at Broward CollegeThe mission of the Lingua Center at Broward College is to provide effective language education leadingto the mastery of a new language.

The Center is devoted to fulfilling the mission of empowering

students as well as language service clients with effective

communication in English, Spanish, and many languages of

the world. Lingua offers quality language education through

a proven natural, multisensory approach, delivered by

professional educators who utilize engaging materials and

technology, ensuring students’ success. Lingua provides this

education in an immersive, yet relaxed environment, and in an

ethical and professional way.

The goals of the Intensive English Program are:• To prepare speakers of other languages to learn, improve and master the English language• To guide international students in a successful transition into American institutions of higher education

• To offer key resources to executives and individuals in the enhancement of their professional skills and personal growth.

Weston — combines the extensive academic resources of the

second largest institution of higher education in South Florida

with the Center’s proven track record of successful language

learning. Strategically located on East & West Broward on world-

renowned Las Olas Boulevard in the heart of America’s Venice

Certification and accreditationLingua Language Center at Broward College is authorized

by the United States federal law to enroll non-immigrant

foreign students. The school is also accredited by ACCET

(Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training).

Intensive English18 class hours (60-minute hours) per weekor 24 units of 45 minutes* Lingua is authorized by Federal Law to enroll non-immigrant foreign students* Classes start every Monday* Minimum age to participate is 15* Daily Schedule: Fort Lauderdale & Weston Morning Schedule: Monday through Thursday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Afternoon Schedule: Monday through Thursday: 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Additionallanguage programs• Semi-Intensive English - 16 class hours (60-minute hours) per week or 21.33 units of 45 minutes

• Part-Time English –12 class hours (60-minute hours) per week or 16 units of 45 minutes

• Supplemental Courses – 6 class hours (60-minute hours) per week or 8 units of 45 minutes:

- English Conversation & Accent Reduction - TOEFL Test Preparation - Business English• Foreign Languages – Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French,

Mandarin...

- Customized Language, Corporate Language or Language Boot Camp Program –13+ class hours per week. Customized programs offer a flexible schedule tailored to your proficiency level, learning style, schedule and location. Although the customized programs generally focus on General Language, Advanced Academic English Skills, Conversation and Accent Reduction, Business or TOEFL Test Preparation, you may request class discussions and jargon of other particular fields of interest. Custom classes are offered to small groups, large groups or one-to-one. The curriculum is customized to the specific needs of your corporate group or individual executive as requested, whether in the medical, business or technical fields. We will come to your facilities for your convenience or you may come to ours.

• Provider of Broward College’s Continuing Education language programs, including Beginner & Intermediate English, Let’s Talk, Accent Reduction, TOEFL Test Preparation and an array of foreign languages.

Support services • Orientation for International Students: We will guide you through the entire

process of enrollment, from applying for your international student visa to selecting other support services. You will receive guidance on completing your English program and transitioning into a higher education degree program at Broward College or another college or university.

• Health Insurance: We have included a link on our website for your convenience. Proof of insurance is required for international students and all students participating in field trips before class start date.

• Housing Arrangements: Lingua can assist you in finding accommodations with an American family or in an apartment/hotel. Please contact our office for a list of our housing partners who will take care of all your home-stay, real estate or hotel accommodation needs.

• Transportation: Lingua can assist the student with transportation to and from the airport and/or contracting with a car leasing agency (only for students of legal age). Please contact our corporate office by phone or e-mail to make arrangements.

• Transfer to Broward College or other higher education institutions: Many students’ goal is to pursue a higher education degree. We guide you in this process so you can smoothly transition into a degree program.

College courses(non-degree) and college placement services College Courses (Non-degree): Students enrolled in levels 5 - 8 of the Intensive English Program can improve their English while learning or perfecting a skill through the Department of Continuing Education at Broward College. Areas of study include business, computers, creative arts, fitness and recreation. For other courses, visit www.broward.edu/ce

College Placement: Students in the Intensive English Program have access to International Student advisors on-site who can explain the admissions process into Broward College and assist with all aspects of enrollment into a degree program.We can also assist them in transferring to another college or university.

Student life at 10 Broward College Centers & Campuses • Field Trips: Students are encouraged to participate in the extra-curricular

activities held by the Lingua Center, including field trips to Fort Lauderdale museums, the Broward Performing Arts Center, the Main Branch of the Broward County Library, restaurants, coffee shops, shopping centers, sports and cultural events, and the beautiful South Florida beaches among others.

• Gymnasium: Students in the Intensive English Program can enjoy the gymnasium at any Campus of Broward College.

• Library: Students in the Intensive English Program have access to the Main Branch of the Broward County Library System located within steps from the Downtown Campus. In addition, IEP students are able to study side by side with American students at any of the libraries of Broward College, and check out books, e-books, movies and music in English and foreign languages. Access to Broward College e-library.

• Resource Centers: Students in the Intensive English Program can utilize any of Broward College’s resource centers, located at different campuses and centers of Broward College throughout Broward County.

• College Life: Students in the Intensive English Program benefit from daily interaction with American college students in all 10 Broward College Campuses and Centers. They can make a new friend at the college coffee shop, have a lively conversation at one of the student lounges, and stroll along beautiful Las Olas Boulevard to a nearby restaurant or art gallery. They can also spend time at one of Broward College’s Student Activity Centers, where they can relax, meet new people, watch a movie, play video games, shoot some pool or play some ping pong. They can visit Broward College’s Museum, the Buehler Planetarium & Observatory, Bailey Hall, the Aviation Institute, Tigertail Recreational Lake, music, theatre and dance performances on campus, and visit on-campus art exhibits.
