Guidelines: Participation of Virtual Academic Center (VAC) Students in Global Immersion, Summer 2012 The Global Immersion Program, an integral part of USC’s MSW program, enhances students’ awareness of the increasingly interdependent global community and how social workers can promote the mutually reinforcing goals of community development and community empowerment. With the inception of the Virtual Academic Center (VAC) of the USC School of Social Work in October, 2010 VAC students have also expressed an interest in participating in the Global Immersion. To ensure that students are aware of how their participation may affect their program of study, graduation, and financial aid participation, the following guidelines address those who are eligible to participate in the 2012 Summer Global Immersion program : Who Is Eligible to Participate in the Global Immersion for Summer, 2012 (By cohort): October, 2010 Cohort (Cohort 1) : 1 – Only graduates of the four semester full-time program (last day of classes is 03/26/12) can participate. 2 – Students who will graduate as of 03/26/12 and who need financial aid to assist in covering the expenses of Global Immersion need to apply for a summer loan. To apply for a summer loan, you should contact Ms. Lisa Gonzales, [email protected] , 213-821-0908. January, 2011 Cohort (Cohort 2) 1 – Only graduates of the four semester full-time program (last day of classes is 05/14/12) can participate. 2 – Students who will graduate as of 05/14/12 who need financial aid to assist in covering the expenses of Global Immersion need to apply for a summer loan. The Global Immersion Program, an integral part of USC’s MSW program, enhances students’ awareness of the increasingly interdependent global community and how social workers can promote the mutually reinforcing goals of community development and community empowerment. With the inception of the Virtual Academic Center (VAC) of the USC School of Social Work in October, 2010 VAC students have also expressed an interest in participating in the Global Immersion. October, 2010 Cohort (Cohort 1):

1 – Only graduates of the four semester full-time program (last day of classes is 03/26/12) can participate.

2 – Students who will graduate as of 03/26/12 and who need financial aid to assist in covering the expenses of Global Immersion need to apply for a summer loan. To apply for a summer loan, you should contact Ms. Lisa Gonzales, [email protected], 213-821-0908.

January, 2011 Cohort (Cohort 2)

1 – Only graduates of the four semester full-time program (last day of classes is 05/14/12) can participate.

March, 2011 Cohort (Cohort 3 )

1 – Part-time (six and eight semester) students in their fourth semester may be able to participate if approved by their faculty and field instructors (they will only be registered for eight units.)

2 - Students in the four semester program will be ineligible to participate as they will be enrolled in a minimum of 13 units.

May, 2011 Cohort (Cohort 4)

1- Part-time (six and eight semester) students in their fourth semester may be able to participate if approved by faculty and field instructors (they will only be registered for eight units.)

2 - Students in the four semester program are in eligible to participate as they will be enrolled in a minimum of 13 units.

August Cohort (Cohort 5)

Cohort 5 students will be ineligible to participate as they will be enrolled in the third semester and both full and part-time students will exceed the units for registration should they participate.

November, January 2012 and May 2012 Cohorts

Students in the November, 2011, January and May 2012 cohorts will be enrolled in their foundation year and subsequently ineligible.
