Global final bulletin
In line with CIMA’s vision to develop future business leaders
and change lives around the world, the CIMA Global Business
Challenge 2010 was developed and organised in partnership
with Barclays, to bring out the best in business leaders of
tomorrow and to give them the opportunity of global exposure.
Being our global headline partner, Barclays shares a similar
vision of developing young talents around the world. The GBC
2010 attracted over 6,000 registrations from 14 regions around
the world. The participating regions included Australia, Mainland
China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, India,
Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, UAE, South Africa, Ireland and
the UK. The 2010 global final was held on 5 – 6 August 2010 in
Malaysia, one of CIMA’s established markets.
Day oneOur participants travelled from all over the
world with the aspiration to become the global
champion of the GBC 2010. On day one they
presented their business solution to a judging
panel of high ranking experts, which included:
Robert Arbuthnott, CFO, Asia Pacific, Barclays
Capital; Kam Patel, Director, Barclays Capital;
Mark Grill, CFO of IBM Malaysia; Harold Baird,
CIMA Deputy President; Jeremy Nasrulhaq,
Divisional Deputy President of CIMA Malaysia
and Ray Perry, Executive Director Brand, Profile
and Marketing at CIMA.
The participants’ talent and calibre were clearly
demonstrated through the team broadcast they
produced as well as the business presentation
they delivered. Ray Perry, who was also the chief
judge for this year’s global final commended
the participants: ‘The GBC is a hugely rewarding
event for CIMA as it gives us the opportunity to
discover and showcase the talented young business
leaders of tomorrow. It has been an electric couple
of days and I commend each of the 14 finalist
teams on their professionalism and dedication to
the competition. This year’s event has been very
challenging to judge as the level of skill displayed by
each of the global finalists was exceptionally high.’
Taylor’s University College, Lakeside Campus
was the venue sponsor for the competition. The
grandeur of the venue accentuated the scale of the
event. The participants and audience were treated
with excellent food and entertainment prepared by
the students of Taylor’s University College.
The Business Flight SimulatorAfter an intense first day, day two started later in
the afternoon, giving students the time to relax
and recuperate. The Business Flight Simulator
competition is another part of the GBC2010
aimed to give participants a taste of the business
world. Developed by Metapraxis, the Business
Flight Simulation is a revolutionary computerised
training technique that delivers an intuitive
understanding of how a business really works,
within a very short time.
Participants were given the opportunity to
prepare and had trial runs before actually
competing against one another at the event to
determine who had the most business sense.
Excitement filled the room and adrenalin was
pumping throughout the competition. After
rounds of battling to achieve maximum profit,
Chameleon Consulting from the UK was declared
the winner. The team won a dinner for five at
the exclusive KL Tower. Not only did they enjoy
a scrumptious feast, the night view of KL was
unforgettable!
‘Vote for your favourite team broadcast’Apart from the Business Flight Simulation, CIMA
have also hosted the ‘Vote for your favourite
team broadcast’ contest on Facebook as part of
the build up to the main event. Members of the
public were invited to vote for their favourite
team broadcast via the CIMA fan page.
The GBC is a hugely rewarding event
for CIMA as it gives us the opportunity
to discover and showcase the talented
young business leaders of tomorrow.

How does it work?
Our global finalist teams each produced a three
minute (or less) video clip to:
• introduce the team and its members
• explain how the CIMA qualification can
benefit consultants in their work.
The Malaysian team, The Elites, were the winners
with 2,784 votes, followed closely by The Marks
from Pakistan with 2,568 votes and in third
place was The SCIONS Consultancy Firm from
The Philippines with 1,327 votes. The Team
Broadcast contest was designed to encourage
the participants to showcase their creative side.
It must be said, the team broadcasts were very
impressive!
Gala dinner and awards ceremonyThe event ended on a high note with the glamorous
gala dinner and awards ceremony. Participants,
staff and guests alike dressed up in their best
suits to attend this much anticipated part of the
event. This has been an experience of a lifetime
for the participants. Apart from winning a free trip

different cultures, gained new friendships and the
