Global Chemistry Experiment 2014
King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys
Crystals are an important part of our modern society, with many uses from substances such as aspirin to ice cream. So, it was an exciting prospect to grow our own crystals…..
The equipment was collected and instruction given…
Four salts to choose from…
Accurate measurements were taken of volume and mass…
Keep going until its saturated!
Read the thermometer carefully...
Results recorded and repeated…
Part A complete!
Hot water required…(safely from an adult)
Keep stirring and remember, continue adding until it’s saturated..
Now let’s get down to filtering…
Pegging the flasks
Part B Complete.
Why not repeat with some colour?
Crystallisation!
Comparing size and shape of crystals
Even the Sixth Formers were a little curious…
Make sure that your data is reliable…
Data checked and submitted!
Thank You to The Royal Society of Chemistry for the exciting experiment!
