cially my Mum. She gave me a huge cuddle; I’ve never felt so relieved.

The boy who set fire to my hair said he didn’t think about the consequences to his ‘prank’ and seemed genu-inely sorry. He got suspended from school for two weeks and the others got a warning for bullying me. Everything began to get easier, and I met a great group of girls that have been really sup-portive and helped me get my confidence back.

I would encourage anyone who is being bullied to stand up and tell someone who can help you. Not only will you be miserable until you do, it can slowly get worse and end up being serious and dangerous. I am glad I said something… who knows how much longer it may have gone on for.

Hannah, 16, started being targetted by bullies when she was 14. For two

years she has kept quiet through her torment, but now she wants to share her story to warn others they need to speak up.

It all started when I moved to a new area and had to start a new school. There was a group of girls there that decided they didn’t like my shoes, and started asking me questions about myself, like my name, what school I came from, and when my birthday was. When I said the 7th March, they all blurted out laughing, then started saying I’d stolen one of the girl’s birthdays. It all went downhill from there.

At first, it was little com-ments when I’d walk past, criticising my hair and say-ing how ugly I was. Obvi-ously this bothered me, but I didn’t tell anyone as I thought it would sound as though I was the new girl who was being petty. But slowly it got worse and worse and the boys who were friends with the girls joined in.

I’ve always been close to my Mum, but I couldn’t even

bring myself to speak to her about it. She knew there was something wrong with me. She kept asking if everything was ok, but I think she put it down to missing my friends from the old school so she dropped it, hop-ing I’d move on.

As the bully-ing continued, I felt more and more lonely, and wasn’t eating properly so I started to get bad skin, even more fuel for the bullies.

Then one day, when I was getting some books out of my locker, I smelt burning. There was laughter behind me that turned quickly to panic. It took a couple of seconds to realise that someone had actually set fire to my hair!

I panicked, and didn’t know what to do; luckily a teacher was nearby and managed to cover my lit hair with her coat. I couldn’t believe it had gone this far; it had passed the stage where I could keep quiet and ignore it anymore.

The teachers got my Mum to come in for a meeting, where I broke down and blurted out everything. They were all shocked and saddened I had kept quiet about what I’d been going through, espe-

“I realised it had gone so

far; there was no keeping quiet

anymore”

HOW TO HAVE:

The Ultimate Sleepover

Follow this easy step-by-step guide and be the person everyone is talking about,by holding the best sleepover ever!

Sleepovers. The only night that allows you to share secrets, have fun and relax with your favourite people. However, do you sometimes find that your sleepover starts the ‘sleep’ a little

too early for your liking? Based on a survey of Glitz readers, we have compiled a fab top 5 guide on the best films, food

and games to make sure your sleepover party is the talk of all your friends!

TOP 5 SLEEPOVER FILMS:1.MEAN GIRLS: In at number one is the all time favourite Mean Girls, starring child star

Lindsay Lohan. ‘Mean Girls is perfect to watch with my best friends, we especially love Regina

and how sneaky she is!’ says Kirsty fourteen years old from Swindon. Maybe it’s the clothes, the

drama, the boy candy or the enviable glam factor that Regina, Gretchen, Karen and Cady

possess, that makes this film the best film to watch at a sleepover. OR the fact that we can

quote every word, action and song... we’re not obsessed, honest! 2.A CINDERELLA STORY: Number two is our favourite fairytale with a modern twist; A

Cinderella Story. Starring Lizzie McGuire star, Hilary Duff, as the girl who has to be home

before midnight leaving her shoe to be rescued by high-school heartthrob Chad Michael

Murray, saving her from the clutches of her evil stepmother. This film is a cute chick flick that

will entertain, and with Chad being the main character, we just can’t stop staring at the screen.

3.SAVE THE LAST DANCE: Your third voted favourite movie to watch is the thought

provoking Save the Last Dance. This film mixes a great soundtrack, with the amazing Julia

Stiles (who does all the dancing herself for the film!), that is bound to make you wish you were

a prima ballerina. Get the rewind button at the ready for a fab dance routine at the end of the

movie that will pull on your heart strings.4.10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU: An old school favourite, 10 Things I Hate About You

shows the late Heath Ledger at his best, as Patrick who gets paid to seduce a high-school

outcast so that her sister can date. A remake of the classic Shakespeare play, The Taming of

The Shrew, and with moments that will make you cringe, laugh and cry this film has it all, with a

great 90’s soundtrack that puts modern music to shame.5.STEP UP: One of the all time favourite dance films, Step Up shows gifted dancer Jenna

Dewan stumble across community service server Channing Tatum, while he’s cleaning the floors at her performing arts school. Nora then begins teaching Tyler how to dance,

as the audience see a relationship develop of mutual respect and romance. This film shows that

you only have one shot at your dreams, and sometimes it only takes one person to believe in you.

TOP 5 SLEEPOVER GAMES:

1.TRUTH OR DARE?: Your top sleepover game is the old classic Truth or Dare?. ‘Me and my

friends love making each other do stupid pranks that make us roll on the floor with laughter,’ says

thirteen year old Maria from Southend. Whether it’s making your best friend reveal her deepest,

darkest secret or enjoying watching them play a prank on your annoying younger brother, this game

can be developed in any way you like and will remain a true tradition when it comes to sleepovers.

2.SPIN THE BOTTLE: Whether you’re playing the electric version that has all your pranks,

kissing tasks and truth revelations already built in, or if you’re using an old coke bottle (our

favourite) and making it up on the spot, spin the bottle provides fun, all round entertainment for

you and your sleepover guests and can be as crazy as you want to make it!

3.BLIND MANS BLUFF: This blindfolded game gets your adrenaline pumping as you have to dodge

getting caught by the person whose eyes are covered. After spinning them around on the spot for

30 seconds, they are free to roam and the first person caught has to take their place. WARNING:

Make sure this game is played in a room that is large and with as little furniture as possible to

avoid injury4.WHO AM I?: Only requiring a pen and post it notes, Who Am I? provides light-hearted

entertainment as your friend has to guess which famous person is stuck on their forehead by

asking the rest of you questions.

5.SCAVENGER HUNT: One to play in the house, around the neighbourhood or around your back

garden, Scavenger Hunt is a fast paced game where teams have to follow clues to a prize. The

first team to solve all the clues that are hidden in different locations and find the ending place get

something special, so make sure mum and dad help you select a great prize that is worth competing

for!

TOP 5 SLEEPOVER FOODS:

1.CHOCOLATE: The firm favourite for this category was Chocolate, whether it was melted

or solid and popular brand Dairy Milk came out as most wanted. Chocolate has always been

the cure for a broken heart, and with it releasing endorphins that make you happy, it’s no

wonder you picked it as your top choice. ‘Chocolate always tastes amazing, and makes us feel

comforted while sharing each other’s secrets and gossip,’ Taylor, sixteen years old from

Grimsby.2.POPCORN: Being one of the easiest snack foods to eat, Popcorn comes in a variety of dif-

ferent flavours to suit all your sleepover guests. And of course it is traditional to chuck it in

the air while you and your mates watch a scary movie!3.HARIBO: Tangfastics, Star Mix, Gold Bears, Mao mix; Haribo has it all covered. You and

your friends have a lucky dip into the bag coming out with either chewy cherries, gummy

rings (which wouldn’t be right without spending at least an hour on your finger before

eating!), or the traditional gummy bear. It makes our mouth water just thinking about it.

4.PIZZA: Pizza is a great hot or cold snack that can make a change from sweets and crisps

at a sleepover, and doesn’t leave your guests feeling hungry in the middle of the night! Do

make sure that you ask mum or dad help you with oven though.

5.CRISPS & DIP: With the firm favourite coming out as Doritos, the tortilla chip that

comes in a variety of great flavours, and the favourite dips being salsa or sour cream, this is

great girl talk food that doesn’t take much thinking about. The family size bags are perfect

for sleepovers, so you don’t have to worry about spending a fortune on individual sized bags.

HE ALWAYS SEEMS TO GO OUT OF HIS WAY TO TALK TO YOU AND ‘BUMPS’ INTO YOU IN THE STRANGEST

PLACES, BUT IS HE SHOWING THE TELL-TALE SIGNS OF A LAD WITH A CRUSH?

HE FINDS REASONS TO BE AROUND YOU 98% OF THE TIME...It feels like wherever you are, he is. But this doesn’t mean he’s talking to you, he could even be blatantly ignoring you, or worse, laughing at you with his friends. This is a good sign, as stupid as it sounds. Boys tend to be too scared to tell a girl if they like her, so they make fun of her and sometimes ignore her. It’s their silly way of getting your attention. Just make sure you keep playing it cool and have fun with your crush, don’t let it get you down!

HE TOUCHES YOUR ARM UNECESSARILY DURING CONVERSATION... When you two are talking, he keeps touching you arm or shoulder or starting up play fights. This is another way of making body contact with you, and it’s the easiest way he knows how to flirt. By touching your arm or shoulder, he is looking for reas-surance that you are interested in him.

HE SAYS STUPID THINGS TO KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING...He wants to keep talking to you but has nothing else to say, so ends up blurting something along the lines of “You smell”.This is so cringing, but bless him... at least he’s trying. Just laugh it off if he walks into this trap, and make sure you have something worthwhile to recover the situation!

HE ASKS YOU QUESTIONS ABOUT OTHER BOYS...He might act slightly jealous when you’re talking to, or about, another guy...and then he’ll want to know ALL about him so he can try and work out if he’s got competition.A small amount of jealousy on his part can be a good thing, it might make him hurry up and realise what a top lass you really are!

BY TOUCHING YOU, HE IS

LOOKING FOR REASSURANCE

THAT YOU LIKE HIM

HE STARTS GETTING ON WELL WITH YOUR GIRL FRIENDS...He seems to be talking to your mates more, and it sometimes feels like he makes more effort with them than you.Let’s face it, he may not know that much about girls, but its obvious that your friends are going to have an impact, and if they like him, they will approve. He probably is making more effort with your friends than you, but it’s only because he’s shy and wants your friends to be supportive of your boy choice.

He’s shy and wants your friends to approve

A PROBLEM SHARED A PROBLEM HALVED

SHE COPIES ME!

I love my best friend to pieces but recently she’s started copying me. It started with her new haircut, which was the same as mine. Now she seems to model herself on me, eventexting the same guys! What can I do?

I really think you should sort this out ASAP before you ruin a friendship. As nicely as you possibly can, write her a note or confront her, because once you guys talk, you might find that there’s some kind of underlying problem such as her being insecure. If she does get upset, don’t feel bad or guilty, because it isn’t your fault. You should feel flattered she is copying you, your friendship is obviously a huge inspiration to her.

The boy thing is tricky though, you need to tread carefully, as you need to be 100% sure she is copying you, and that it is not a coincidence. Remember to never put a boy before your friendship, and in the meantime, try and keep your crushes secret!

I’M OBSESSED WITH CHERYL!

I know it sounds really bad but ever since the X-Fac-tor came on TV, I’m obsessed with becoming famous like Cheryl Cole. I think she’s so pretty and I can’t get her out of my head. I can’t tell my Mum because I’m scared she’ll laugh at me. Please help.

OK, first I need to state the obvious… who doesn’t want to be famous? With theexception of Paris Hilton, people don’treally build a career out of just being famous. There are hundreds of thousands of working actors, athletes, musicians and models who have careers in these fields but are unknown. Being in a profession like Cheryl’s does not guarantee fame; they do not go hand in hand.

There is no course at school on ‘Being Cheryl Cole’, you have to be your own person and people will love you for exactly who you are, just like you love Cheryl!

PROBLEMS! IT DOESN’T MATTER

HOW EMBARRASSING YOU THINK

YOUR PROBLEM IS.

Help! I fancy my best mate’s brother and I can’t talk to anyone about it! I’m always too nervous to talk to him and I know the more popular girls have their eye on him too. He’d never go out with me!

Seems to me like you’ve got the perfect opportunity to get to know this lad, but you should ask yourself how your best mate would feel about you crushing on her brother. If you seriously think she’d be OK about it, then use your closeness to her to get to know him better.

You should always consider what would happen to your friendship if the relationship with her brother didn’t work out. If your friendship is strong, though, you should pull through. Start hanging out at her house more often so you can slowly and casually get to know him. Begin by just saying hi and working out what he’s into – a friendship or more could form. Good luck!

I’m 12, my sister is nine, and we both go to bed at 8.30pm but all my mates go to bed at 10. I asked my mum why our bedtime is so early and she said it’s because my sister is afraid of the dark. But I really want to go to bed later!

Have you explained to your mum that you would like to go to bed later than your younger sister, or just asked her why? I don’t think just saying that your friends do, therefore you should, will be seen as a valid argument. Taking your mum aside and saying that, as you’re a little older, you really would appreciate going to bed slightly later, might just be a bit more persuasive. Perhaps you could suggest to your mum that if your sister’s afraid of the dark, you could put a special night light in her room. You could even offer to go up with her when she’sgetting ready for bed, but come down once she’s safely tucked up. If you share a room, make it clear that you wouldn’t wake your
