Fred,
According to [nguess?] I write to you 'though when I left the Lake I did not think
I should have any thing to write about
I drove to Sherrills & returned to see the Boat off & then all of us Teams started for the
falls self ahead but before getting to the tollgate I met with an incident to write aboutso here it
iswe left [Gules?] under pretty good speed Kate & Jenny bearing well on the bit till within
near a miles of toll gate I overtook a leather team & attempted to pass it, but in the attempt
failed & went off the bank Horses carriage & self in somewhat of a hurry only a little more soI
found my self in double quick time some 30 feet down the bank on a nice spot of grass minus my
hat which was a few feet further onHorses & Carriage brought up against a tree some 10 feet
short of me When I got to them they were standing again on their feet quietly cropping off leaves
from the bushes as though it was all as a matter of course Sprague hailed to know if I was hurt
and [wn?] of course, noall rightset to work all of us & got the Horses and Carriage back
into the road & found every thing safe & soundnot a break of a scratch on either Horses,
Carriage or myself & only a [hek?] hook on the harness brokenthus you see I got up quite anincident a feat that can't be performed very often I sentWillard to day $50, & ordered 60
