It is our goal to record the positive contributions GLBT people make to their community and the localcommunity at large. While AIDS and Hate CRIMES are certainly not positive things, we seek to draw the
positive fromthe negative. We hold up Paul Delph and Matthew Shepard and their families as models of how
human beings should or could react to each other and how families should support loved ones whose lives
are not in the box right wing religious zealots want themin. Delph, a multi-talented Cincinnatian, died of AIDSin 1996. His mother shut down her business to care for him. Shepard died in 1998, victimof a hate Crime and

NKY PRIDE
Our first NKY PRIDE
event was fantastic... We had
a great turn out despite the
cold weather.
I would like to thank the
entire community for all the
love and support over the last
year and a half of planning for
this event. I had a great
committee and wonderful
sponsors. We had more than
20 vendors and fantastic
entertainers and speakers.
I had vendors come up to
me at the end of event and say
they thought we were very
organized and that was great
news. For our first year Im
pleased with the results and
everyone told me what fun
they had at the Party in the Park.
The media has been fun to
work with and The City of
Covington has been very
supportive and great to work
with this last year. I feel that
we celebrated our PRIDE and
it felt like the entire commu-
nity worked together and that
was extremely important for
us all.
Next year is up in the air as
far as dates but we might be
combining efforts with
Cincinnatis PRIDE event.
We are having a rap up
meeting at the beginning of
November and finish up our
thank you cards and then a
much needed break for the
holidays....At the beginning of
the year we are off and
running and the planning will
begin again for next year.
From the bottom of myheart I Thank everyone for
making a dream come true in

Northside PRIDEfest
To all who attended the
2010 Northside PRIDEfest,
we hope you had a blast!
We know it didnt compare
to the festivals that we have
seen in Northside in the last
ten years, but It was the best
we could do at the last
minute.
If you came early, you may
have been able to see Enguard
Flag Shows in Hoffner Park,
and we know it would have
been so much better if we had
booths and activities in the
park, but it did not fit into our
last minute budget for the
event.
The fashion show that took
place from noon to three at
the Northside Tavern was a
really great time, the music
and models really brought
excitement to the afternoon,
and the Cin City Burlesque
Show that followed was just
as entertaining. Thanks to the
Bands and DJs that came out
to entertain us and the venues
that opened their doors to our
festival. We know that the

Kings Island PRIDE
Its the event that youve
look forward to for the last 14
years!
PRIDE Night at Kings
Island, the Gay & Lesbian
Community Centers annual
fundraiser was held once again
and with great success. We
had nearly 3,500 folks
attending and raised about
$30,000. Both are near
records for the event.
You cant beat it really!Nothing like getting together
with 3,500 people and taking
in the adventure we call Kings
Island. With short lines, you
can almost be guaranteed a

wait of five minutes or less.
Which is especially great if
you love the ride! The biggest thing that
people stubble on is thinking
that this is a PRIDE Event.
In reality its not. Its a big
party of your friends new and
old and a fundraiser for the
Gay & Lesbian Community
Center. So you wont be
seeing a parade, wont be
seeing a lot of booths, not
long lines at the alcohol tent.
But what you will see is a lot
of people having fun!
We couldnt have done it
without you! Youre the ones
that really make the event
happen. The board would
like to thank its volunteerswho helped out, our entertain-
ers and the staff at Kings
Island. Everyone pulled
together to make this an
award winning year!
Mother SaysBy Michael Chanak
I will not write of queer
bugs and PRIDE Pigs this
month!
Praise PRIDE
But, in their
stead, praise
for the bles-
sing of the
PRIDE God-
dess - North-
side, down-
town Cincinnati and Northern
Kentucky PRIDE all behindus, all successful.
All three came this year. All,
in my opinion, a d irect result
of the Gay & Lesbian Com-
munity Centers decision to
bless PRIDE and let it seek
new life outside of the
Centers portfolio.
The headlines tell the story:
largest PRIDE ever in
downtown Cincinnati,
Northside PRIDE brought 170
folks into the Center alone in
one day and NKY PRIDE
festivel and welcoming.
We are all the better for it.
Did some people have the
holy trinity of doubts,
questions and issues? Oh hell, yes. Were there some rough
spots here and there? Of
course!
Moving PRIDE organizing
out of the GLBT Center grew
PRIDE, both geographically
(three locations) and new
energy of ownership: Save
PRIDE in Northside (Daniel
Wells and Dustin James
Miller), Gay Chamber/Equi-
nox (George Crawford and
Jerry Schmidt), and Northern
Kentucky PRIDE (Patti
Herrmann) and all respective
committees.
The change caused folks to
make a decision to do
something other than the sameold, same old
formulaic
PRIDE of
2000-2009. I
outta to know
that pattern,
Mother
advised Chris Goods PRIDE
committee in 2000. After all,in 2000 Cincinnati had no
PRIDE parade for five-
years prior.
Yet, for those who are
search for darker reading of
her-story in this piece I
offer you two nuggets. First,
the Center called it right when
we argued it was time to take
things to the next levela ten
minute rant by Mother March
18, 2009, motion by John
Maddux, second by Mother,
and agreed to by all remaining
board members Bill Abney,
Jessica Fogel, Teresa
Shepherd, Adam Reilly and
Rusty Lockett.
Second, our most visibleGLBT political leadership of
the mid 90s should have
insisted on a visible PRIDE
Parade continuing post Issue
3 loss in 1992.
When the usual suspects get
their awards and certificates
next round, please consider
these folks for Community
Leadership Awards, the
respective PRIDE committees
and the GLBT Center Board
of 2009 and 2010.
I know it wont happen
because it is too many people
to thank and teamwork is the
real winner here!
Yet these folks actually
worked through the issues,
possessed foresight, had a
knowledge of how to build
community, took some heavy
rounds of criticism and
sometimes scant praise yet
grew an event tied to the
GLBT communities vitality.
May the PRIDE Goddess
bless us again in 2011 withthe joy of PRIDE.
The Transgender Day of
Remembrance is held every
November to remember and
honor those who were
murdered because of anti-
Transgender hatred or
prejudice.
Cincinnati Vice Mayor
Roxanne Qualls will be the
guest speaker at this years
vigil that will take place onThursday, November 18th at
7 p.m. at the Hebrew Union
College at 3101 Clifton
Avenue in Clifton.
The event is co-sponsored
by Crossport and the local
Human Rights Campaign
Diversity Committee. The
college is accessible to
wheelchair/scooter users. A
reception will immediately
follow the event.
The Day of Remembrance is
held each November to honor
Rita Hester whose murder
started the Remembering
Our Dead web project and a
San Francisco candlelight vigil
in 1999. Rita Hesters
murder, like most anti-
Transgender murder cases has
yet to be solved.
The list of deaths available
at www.remembering-
ourdead.org only contains
those deaths known to the
Transgender community or
have been reported to the
media.
Qualls to speak
at Transgender
Service Nov. 18
The Transgender Day of
Remembrance is intended to
raise public awareness of hate
crimes against Transgender
people, an action that current
corporate media does not
perform. The Transgender
Day of Remembrance
publicly mourns and honors
the lives of Trans-gender
people who might otherwise
be forgotten.
Through the vigil we
express love and respect inthe face of national indiffer-
ence and hatred. The Day of
Remembrance gives Trans-
gender people and their allies
an opportunity to step
forward and stand in unity,
memorializing those who have
died by anti-Transgender
violence.

last summer, a number of local

issue, schools want to be more

Humm. Really? And you
get experts to write this for
you? And more experts to
explain what it says? Really!A Legislator is one who
writes, understands (hon-
estly?) and passes legislation
(Laws). A Lawyer is one who
knows (some of?) the Law.
Do we need to elect another
Legislator? What do you
expect to get from another
Legislator? More law? After
your visit, you may want to
elect a Representative.
Perhaps you will get some
representation and even some
common sense. Go to your
local Law Library and judge
for yourself. My humble
opinion is that we have quite
enough Laws already, thankyou very, very, very much!
Lets get rid of a ten pound
weight of old law for each,

the Law can actually read in

The Arkansas school board

on AC360.
Anderson Cooper
told viewers that
Clint McCance,
vice president ofMcCance
the Midland School District
board in Arkansas, contacted
him to set up an interview
after his anti-Gay Facebook
posts sparked a wave of
outrage.
The posts, which emergedon in response to the Wear
Purple Day, launched to show
solidarity with Gay youth in
the wake of a recent string of
suicides.
In one post, McCance
protested the idea behind the
initiative. They want me to
wear purple because five
queers committed suicide, he
wrote.The only way Im
wearing for them is if they all
commit suicide. I cant
believe the people of this
world have gotten this
stupid.
In another post, he wrote,
It pisses me off, though, that
we make special purple fagday for them. I like that fags
cant procreate. I also enjoy
that they often give each other
AIDS and die...I would disown
my kids if they were Gay.
They will not be welcome at
my home or in my vicinity. I
will absolutely run them off.During McCances appear-
ance on his show, Cooper
confronted him about the
extreme anti-Gay sentiments
he expressed.
You have written some
really terrible things, he told
McCance. Do you really
hate Gay people that much,
that you like to see them die?
McCance, who said he was
ashamed and embarrassed by
his actions, told Cooper I
would never support suicide
of any kids. I dont support
bullying of any kids.
What do you feel like youre
apologizing for, exactly?Cooper asked him.
It was over the top, Ander-
son, McCance replied. It
was. I just went too far with it.
That explanation, however,
did not seem to be enough for
Cooper, who pressed Mc-
Cance further.
But, I mean, do you have
any idea of the... pain and fear
you have caused to kids
maybe even in your own
district who are being bullied
or who are Gay or who
dont feel safe telling anyone
that theyre Gay? he asked
him.
McCance said that the
situation Cooper wasdescribing was a what-if.
Then, Cooper got McCance to
announce his resignation from
the school board.
