MUMMIES OF THE WORLD: THE EXHIBITION-
THURSDAY, AUGUST 3 - Having been visited by over 1.6
million people nationwide, Mummies of the World: The Exhi-
bition is one of the most popular museum exhibitions traveling
North America, and it comes to Union Station this summer!
Inside every mummy is a story waiting to be told. Through
modern science and technology, their secrets are now revealed.
Mummies of the World tells the story of the mummies and
mummification through state-of-the-art multimedia, hands-on
interactive stations and cutting-edge 3-D animation tak-
ing visitors on a 4,500-year journey to explore the mum-
mies’ history and origins as well as how they were created, both
through natural and intentional practices. Visitors will come
face to face with the largest exhibition of real mummies and
related artifacts ever assembled. The exhibition features a
group of fascinating mummies and artifacts on loan from 12
world-renowned museums, organizations and collections com-
ing from 5 countries. You will also see a short movie on the
Extreme Screen. Lunch will be on your own at Union Station.
Cost: $32.00 includes transportation, exhibit and movie. Bus

SHOPPING FUN! - WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 9 - Today
you will enjoy shopping at some of the areas most unique
stores. You will visit downtown Overland Park during their
Farmer’s Market. Vendors offer a wide variety of products
from farm fresh produce, local foods and unique specialty
items. Also in downtown OP you will find Ten Thousand Vil-
lages, The Tasteful Olive, Penzey’s Spices, General Store &
Co., Culinary Center of KC and several bakeries. Next you will
travel to the Brookside area where you will find The New Dime
Store, World’s Window, Savory Spice, 5B & Co. Candles, Toy
& Science and many more. You will also enjoy lunch on your
own in Brookside where there are many great restaurants to
choose from! Cost: $12.00 includes transportation. Bus de-

MUSICAL THEATRE HERITAGE “AN EVENING WITH
GEORGE GERSHWIN” - THURSDAY, AUGUST 17 -
George Gershwin was on of the most significant American
composers of the 20th Century, known for popular stage and
screen numbers as well as classical compositions. Songs in-
clude “Summertime:, “Porgy and Bess”, and “An American in
Paris”. This is an original revue about the life and music of this
incredible composer. The theatre is located at Crown Center.
Lunch will be on your own at Crown Center before the show.
Cost: $43.00 includes transportation and show. Bus departs at
11:00 a.m. and will return at approximately 4:00 p.m. Reserva-

thing is different. Sandy attempts to navigate the tricky Rydell
High School social waters and catch Danny’s attention again,
but Danny is mostly concerned with maintaining his tough-guy
reputation. In the end, the Pink Ladies help Sandy figure out
how to win back the leader of the Burger Palace Boys. Cost:

LUNCH OUT AT JAZZ - FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 - To-
day we’re going to lunch at Jazz , a Louisiana Kitchen. This
wonderful restaurant located on 39th Street, is an authentic
French Quarter Cafe featuring fine Cajun Cuisine. You’ll defi-
nitely want to end your meal with the Beignets! Lunch is on your

THE SHOW ME STATE CAPITAL - TUESDAY, SEPTEM-
BER 19 - We’ve got a full day planned in Jefferson City, starting
with a visit to the Governor’s Mansion. Built in 1871, The origi-
nal three-story structure was built containing 13 bedrooms, no
bathrooms or closets. In 1969, it was added to the U.S. National
Register of Historic Places. Next you will visit the Missouri
State Capitol building. The building, which covers three acres is
literally a museum of public art, remarkable not only for its quali-
ty and abundance, but as a faithful reflection of the themes,
events and people of Missouri. You will see a splendid collection
of stained glass, murals, carvings and statuary portraying Mis-
souri's history, legends and cultural achievements. You will learn
about the Puppies on Parole program where selected offenders
have the opportunity to become trainers to rescue dogs. You will
tour the Missouri State Penitentiary and learn about the 168-year
history of the Penitentiary including information on infamous
inmates, the Riot of 1954, escape attempts and much more. You
will be guided the oldest building still standing on the Missouri
State Penitentiary site, built in 1868. Lunch is included today and
you’ll enjoy ice cream from Central Dairy, a Jefferson City tradi-
tion since the 1930’s. Cost: $115.00 includes motorcoach trans-

WARM SPRINGS RANCH & BOONVILLE - TUESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 26 - Warm Springs Ranch is a breeding farm for
the Budweiser Clydesdales. It features a mare/stallion and foaling
barn, veterinary lab and 10 pastures. The facility is home to more
than 70 Clydesdales ranging from foals to stallions. You will
interact with Clydesdale handlers, see the Clydesdales’ harness,
luxury trailer and 1903 beer wagon, take a photo with a Clydes-
dale, sample Budweiser beer and visit the gift shop. You will
enjoy lunch in Boonville at The Fred in the historic Fredrick Ho-
tel before enjoying a tour of Roslyn Heights Mansion, This 1895
Historic home at 821 Main Street, is the state headquarters for the
Daughters of the American Revolution. Cost: $114.00 includes
motor coach transportation, tours and lunch. Motor coach departs

CITY OF FOUNTAINS, CITY OF ART - THURSDAY, SEP-
TEMBER 28 - More boulevards than Paris, more fountains than
any other city but Rome, and an entire neighborhood modeled
after Seville, Spain. Explore the art and architecture of some of
Kansas City’s most famous neighborhoods, from Old World
charm of the Country Club Plaza to the emerging artists of the
trendy Crossroads Arts District. Along the way you will take a
tour of Kansas City’s beautiful fountains. From large and majes-
tic to small and whimsical, each one has a character all its own.
You will enjoy lunch before the tour at Lidia’s. Occupying a
former railroad house just north of Kansas City’s historic Union
Station, Lidia’s evokes the warmth of an old Italian farmhouse.

JAZZ & ART - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 3 - Kansas City is
known for great Jazz musicians. You will enjoy a live one-hour

backup trio. After the show you will enjoy a delicious lunch at
Café Tempo, located on the campus, Then you’ll have time to
visit the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art (located near

THE NEW THEATRE “DRIVING MISS DAISY” -

star Michael Learned from The Waltons and Charlie Robinson
from Night Court. Daisy, a wealthy widow, has wrecked anoth-
er car. Her son decides she needs a chauffeur and hires an un-
employed black man named Hoke. Daisy and Hoke dislike each
other initially but over the course of 25 years, the two grow to
become very dear friends. Cost: $45.00 includes transportation

QUALITY HILL PLAYHOUSE “I’VE GOT A CRUSH ON

“Someone To Watch Over Me” and “I’ve Got a Crush on You”
were born on Broadway. The shows may be forgotten, but the
songs live on. We’ll hear the songs that began on Broadway
and made it into the American Songbook. You will enjoy lunch
before the show at the Majestic Restaurant. Cost: $60.00 in-

BIG CREEK COUNTRY MUSIC SHOW - SATURDAY,

ans in the business. You will enjoy dinner before the show at

LUNCH OUT AT BO LINGS ON THE PLAZA - THURS-
DAY, OCTOBER 19 - Bo Lings has been serving fine Chinese
cuisine in the Kansas City area for the past two decades. They

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
CANCER ACTION WORKSHOP - This group meets on the
2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 9:00 - noon at the
Gladstone Community Center. Their main goal is to make bed
pads for cancer patients. There are many jobs to do and they
don’t all involve sewing. Call 423-4086 for more information.
CHESTNUT FINE ARTS “GREAT DUETS OF BROAD-
WAY” - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21 - “Great Duets of
Broadway” will celebrate memorable songs from our favorite
shows! There’s nothing better than a powerful duet – it can be
the highlight of an entire show – West Side Story, Side Show,
Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Wicked, Carousel, Big Riv-
er. And when you remove the songs from their shows and let
them stand alone, their individual brilliance shines. You will
enjoy lunch before the show at Stroud’s in Overland Park.

OZARK ART & CRAFTS GETAWAY - OCTOBER 18-20,
2017 - Join us in Bentonville, Rogers, Bella Vista and Eureka
Springs for this fun Fall getaway. Eureka Springs became
known early on for its healing waters, Victorian architecture
and historical significance and as a haven for artists. You will
enjoy a tram tour and time for shopping at one-of-a-kind shops,
boutiques, and fine art galleries. Each fall, War Eagle Mill, in
the beautiful War Eagle Valley, puts on one of the best craft
fairs in the country. The War Eagle Mill Fall Arts and Crafts
Fair’s professional craft men and women offer original, hand-
made work such as country decorative items, folk art, watercol-
or and oil painting, pottery, stoneware, wreaths, potpourris,
dried arrangements, quilts, miniature, wearable art, candles,
homemade soaps, country furnishings, antique broken china
jewelry, bird houses and feeders, collectables and much more.
The fair will feature over 250 vendors. You will also visit
Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, Arkansas. Their art collection
offers a superb overview of American Art, including American
masterworks as well as surprising, lesser-known gems from the
colonial era to today. The museums glass and wood design
features a series of pavilions nestled around two creek-fed
ponds. Cost: $575.00 includes motorcoach transportation,

Avenue, there are endless Christmas sights to enjoy during the
holiday season in New York City. Highlights include a guided
tour offering an opportunity to see Manhattan’s many well
known points of interests…Times Square, Rockefeller Center,

SOUTH AFRICAN ADVENTURE AND SAFARI - SEP-
TEMBER 11-20, 2018 - Join us for a trip presentation on Tues-
day, October 3rd at 5:00 p.m. at the Gladstone Community Cen-
ter. Set out from Johannesburg for a safari in Kruger National
Park, one of Africa’s leading game sanctuaries that covers more
than 7,700 square miles of land between the Crocodile River in
the south and the Limpopo in the north. It also boasts the greatest
species diversity in Africa with more than 140 resident mammal
species, including the iconic Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard,
buffalo and rhino). You will explore the wine-producing region
of the Cape Winelands, visit picturesque vineyard estates and
sample some of the finest South African wines. Take a stroll
through Stellenbosch, a charming vineyard village boasting splen-
didly preserved Cape Dutch and Georgian-Victorian architecture.
Next, discover scenic Cape Town. This once colonial settlement
is one of the world’s most picturesque tourist destinations and

TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE

A total solar eclipse will cross the United States from Oregon to
South Carolina on August 21, 2017. This is the grandest specta-
cle in the sky and Gladstone is in the path of totality where you
will see day turn to night.

event of a trip cancellation due to insufficient enrollment. Refunds are available up to the registration deadline. If a refund check is
required, a $5 processing fee will be deducted. After registration deadline, a refund will be issued only if the participant can be re-
placed. If participant desires, a credit will be issued for the entire amount for use in future programs.
