    65 Pakistanis Given Indian Citizenship In 2016

    Indian citizenship in first two months of 2016, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

    Kelly and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Kornienko returned on Earth.

    2.After a historic 340-day mission aboard the International Space Station.

    3.It was a science experiment to study the effects of microgravity on the human body, so that NASA can

    PM Modi launches ‘Setu Bharatam’ project, vows to improve infrastructure

    1.Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the government is putting in all efforts to build

    infrastructure, especially rural roads, in a comprehensive manner.Mr. Modi said while launching the Rs.50,000 crore ‘Setu Bharatam’ project.

    2.The ‘Setu Bharatam’ project aims to make all national highways free from railway level crossing by

    2019 to ensure road safety. Under the project, 208 rail-over bridges and rail-under bridges will be built

    at the cost of Rs. 20,800 crore, Road Minister Nitin Gadkari said. Also, 1,500 decade-old bridges will be

    reconstructed and revamped for Rs. 30,000 crore.

    Mega Military Exercise Of ASEAN Plus Countries Begins In Pune

    1.The multinational mega Military Exercise Force 18 conducted by Indian Army has started in Pune,

    Maharashtra from 2nd March.

    2.The theme of the exercise is `Humanitarian Mine Action’ (HMA) and `Peacekeeping Operations’ (PKO).3.The exercise will conclude on 8th March, 2016 with around 300 participants from 18 ASEAN

    (Association of Southeast Asian Nations ) Plus countries.

    Former Lok Sabha speaker P.A. Sangma passes away

    1.Former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Agitok Sangma died of heart attack here on Friday. He was 68.

    2.Sangma was a nine-time member of the Lok Sabha and the Speaker in the 11th Lok Sabha. He had also

    held important portfolios in the Union government.

    3.He was also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990 and Leader of the Opposition in the

    Assembly from 1990 to 1991.

    Galaxy 13.4 billion years away breaks cosmic distance record

    1.Astronomers have shattered the cosmic distance record by discovering the farthest galaxy ever about

    13.4 billion light-years away, from a time when the universe was just 400 million years old.

    2.GN-z11 is located in the direction of the constellation of Ursa Major, said an international team of

    astronomers who pushed NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope to its limits.

    1.Three British scientists have won a prestigious 2016 Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Prize

    1.The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating alleged fraud at state-run Syndicate Bank that

    involves nearly Rs 1,000 crore, a police spokeswoman .

    2.The CBI is searching 10 locations that include bank branches and homes of bank employees, CBI

    spokeswoman Devpreet Singh told news agency Reuters.

    Goa expects Rs. 400 cr revenue from mining in 2016-17

    1.After four sluggish years, the Goa government expects to earn a revenue of Rs. 300-400 crore from the

    ban-hit mining industry in 2016-17.2.The ban on the mining industry has resulted in a loss of around Rs. 5,000 crore, Chief Minister

    Laxmikant Parsekar said.

    Banks Disburse Over Rs 1.15 Lakh Crore Under PM Mudra Yojana

    1.Banks have so far disbursed over Rs 1.15 lakh crore under Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY),

    Financial Services Secretary Anjuly Chib Duggal said on Tuesday.

    who use funds totalling Rs 11 lakh crore and provide jobs to 12 crore people.

    Gyan Sangam: 3rd Phase of Bank Reforms to Focus on Bad Loan

    1.With mounting bad loans, the second edition of the Finance Ministry’s brain storming session with

    public sector banks focused on management of non-performing assets and consolidation in the sector.

    2.The two-day Gyan Sangam — an annual retreat of chiefs of public sector financial institutions, officials

    from the Finance Ministry and the Reserve Bank of India — recently held on March 4 and 5 in Gurgaon.

    3.The last year retreat was held for the first time in pune.

    sector banks into just six.

    Myanmar grants operating licenses to four more Asian banks including SBI

    1.Myanmar has granted operating licenses to four Asian banks, bringing to 13 the number of foreign

    banks allowed to conduct business in the previously isolated country.

    2.Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, State Bank of India, Taiwan's Sun Commercial Bank

    and South Korea's Shinhan Bank, these are the four bank were granted preliminary licenses, Myanmar's

    price of Rs.1,226.65 of Concor on the BSE.

    1.The US and South Korean troops on 7 March 2016 began their largest ever military exercises off the

    coast of the Korean peninsula.

    2.The bilateral exercises come just days after the UN passed new sanctions against Pyongyang, North

    Korea following its recent nuclear test and rocket launch. The 8-week long drill will involve about

    300000 South Korean troops and 15000 US personnel.

    Maria Sharapova provisionally suspended after failing drugs test at Australian Open

    The 28 year old Russian star tested positive for meldonium, a substance, she has been taking since 2006

    for health issues.

    1.Biometric data of about 99 crore Indians have been collected so far under the Aadhar scheme and the

    data is encrypted and its secrecy and security ensured, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

    2.IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also set aside fears of members on the data collected under Aadhar

    and said it is sorted within the country at data centres in Bangalore and Manesar and no foreign agency

    is involved in data collection.

    rate under the Public Provident Fund scheme will be cut to 8.1 per cent for the period from April 1 to

    June 30 from 8.7 per cent, said a Finance Ministry order.
