MasaganaMasagana is one of community under Gawad Kalinga’s

belt. It is located in Area 1 pook masagana telus gk

village bahay toro prnj 8 Queston City. It is sponsored

by TELUS International Philippines Inc. (TIP) leading

Philippine-based provider of contact center and offline

business process outsourcing solutions.

The vehicle that we oftenly used was jeepney.

Jeepney is like a jeep but modified therefore a lot of

people can fit inside.

Although there are regular stops, you can often

just flag one down and hop on. Call out "bayad"

(bah-yhad) to give your payment to the driver, if you

are too far back, pass your PhP 8.00 (minimum fare for

the first 4 kilometers; 50 cents additional for every

succeeding 500 meters) down.

If you are not sure about the fee tell the driver

where your destination is and ask him how much you

need to pay. When you are ready to get off, call out

"para" (pah-rah); wait till he slows down and jump.

If you want to go to masagana of the boarding

House you can find a jeepney near trinoma mall.

From The Front Of the boarding house,take the

left side, walk until you find big road, it means you

are in Mindanao avenue. Then you have to cross

the street there are many available jeepney.

See the sign board,if it is Quirino St.James,

take the jeepney. You can go down from the Jeepney if

You are In Tandang Sora avenue.

You are in Tandang Sora if any Mc Donald

and store 7 / 11 on a street corner and Jolleybee

across the street.

You Can Enter The road Tandang Sora ,

after that you must turn right on road Venus.

If confused to find a Venus Street, see if

there’s Iglesia Ni Cristo Church at the left side of

the street. Venus is on the opposite road the

church. Then you need to walk again. First turn to

the right is the Earth street, ignore it. You need to

take second turn which is Mars street. Enter Mars

street, turn left and you're already in masagana.

Six wives are in charge of serving workers snacks and water.

Every day they collect 10 pesos from each family and prepare

foods for workers.

TIME Mon.-Wed. 13:00~15:00

We held class and taught sagip children almost every

weekday.

About 10 children came to Multi Purpose and enjoyed our class.

National Flags* We made 10 cards of national flags, let children draw

and memorize them

Culture Show** All trainees made presentation of their own national

culture, and many children gathered and learned about

China, Indonesia, NZ, German, and Japan.

Singing We prepare lyrics paper and sung “Let it be” in English,

“Best Friend” in Japanese, “Draemon” in Japanese and

Indonesian

Drawing Children drew anything they like on a piece of paper

Writing We taught them how to write a letter

Reading Fairytales and simple english books

I got a lot of valuable experiences

during my internship in the

Philippines. Lots of new knowledge,

new friends, and learn a new

culture Which is very different from

mine. But there was one thing made

me a little disappointed when I

became a volunteer of GK.

No specific job description for us.

We just live in hostfamily and

frankly I did not knowwhat I should do. I hope that GK

can give a clear picture to

the next trainees so that

they can contribute to GK.

Filipinos in GK Pook Masagana are very friendly and hospitable people -

they will always offer delicious food... *warning you may gain weight in

the Philippines!* So in terms of living in the village, it is a welcoming place,

and it's so easy to get attached to the people, especially the kids because

they always want to play and they're so funny - so it's hard when it comes

time to leave! One difficulty you may experience is with the language -

the levels of english vary greatly amongst people. Sometimes I have found

it difficult to understand people or for people to understand me -

especially with my accent. Occasionally it feels quite awkward because

it can be hard to know what to say.

Anyway enjoy your time in the Phils!! Make the most of every moment and

jump at opportunities -My time there went so fast, and now I want to

go back! Good luck and best wishes!
