Annual Report 2016-17

These are the faces of Nicolet College students
Your donations help to put a quality college education
within their reach. With your support, the education and workforce training Nicolet College provides helps to ensure a strong economy and community here in the Northwoods. More than 75% of Nicolet graduates are employed in our district.* They stay here because they love the area, just like all of us do, and employers hire them because they have skills that are in high demand.
Some students are earning a certificate or technical diploma to enhance their job skills. Others are pursuing an associate’s degree to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to first join the workforce, or are earning credits to transfer to a four-year university. Still other students are learning new skills though on-the-job training.
These are the faces you’ll see working at your hospital, accountant’s office, auto repair shop, and at other locations in the Northwoods. These are the faces of Nicolet College.
*Statistics from 2015-2016
“I have loved every minute of my Nicolet College experience.
I love the atmosphere, the students, the
professors, the places I find to do homework,
and everything in between.”
“My first year went so well and I can’t wait to see what
next year will bring! Nicolet has been great to me, and I
am so happy I chose to go to school here.”
“Nicolet is giving me the opportunity to further
my education. The staff is motivating and
helping me along the way. I cannot be more thankful for everyone
who is helping me throughout this journey.”
“I chose Nicolet College because the small
campus and individual attention are things I love about it. What I
also love about Nicolet is the outdoors and its integration into nature.“
“Thanks to you, now my fellow students and I
have the ability to be the faces of Nicolet and to be a part of the community
both in giving back to it and enjoying the
benefits of a close-knit relationship that Nicolet
inspires us to have.”

BRIANWENDT
Superior Diesel president Brian Wendt believes his company’s partnership with the Nicolet College Foundation is a collaborative way to support the educational community. “I believe anything can be achieved if a person has the right attitude. But an individual must take the initiative to find a mechanism that continually stretches or challenges him or her to learn more and pursue their passion. There is no better way to do that than by taking courses at Nicolet College,” says Wendt. Superior Diesel’s new endowment solidifies the company’s commitment to students by providing them with scholarship funds to be used in any Nicolet College program.
This summer Superior Diesel and Nicolet College worked together to provide credit opportunities to high school and college students enrolled in the company’s internship program. This program gives students an inside look at the diesel engine manufacturing industry. Joining forces with Nicolet College in this program is a smart investment. “The college is an exceptional resource located right here in our community. Nicolet has a great ability to work with people and come up with creative ideas to help businesses solve a problem, address a concern, or develop a curriculum to help students prepare for what is needed in the workforce.”
“ Nicolet shares in the belief of professional development which makes this partnership a good fit for Superior Diesel.”

STEVEHANSEN
Living and working in the Northwoods is a childhood dream come true for Steve Hansen. After spending 15 years as a diesel mechanic, he’s now working toward his goal of becoming a master technician. “I have been interested in mechanics ever since my dad bought me a 1963 Chevrolet Impala when I was 16,” says Hansen. The hands-on training he’s received at Nicolet College combined with his work experience allows him to go to school full-time, work part-time, and have a family. “My most important goal is to support my boys. Scholarships not only help me, but also future students who have the same ambitions to better themselves, no matter how old they are.” Hansen visited the Northwoods as a child and dreamed of building a life here and is proud to say his dream is now reality.

ANGELIQUEAMBROSIO
Nicolet College graduate Angelique Ambrosio works in New York City’s photography industry. After graduating in 2008 from the Graphic Design program, the Minocqua native and Lakeland Union High School alumna went on to photography school and completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Angelique says her Nicolet education provided her with a quality, affordable, and transformative educational option. “Nicolet creates great opportunities for students because instructors really push all of us to get outside our comfort zones.”
Angelique is a photograph engineer and creatively reconstructs and transforms images into unique photography pieces used in print campaigns. She remains active with the Nicolet College Foundation as a volunteer reviewing scholarship applications. “I think it’s important to give back to Nicolet because they’ve given so much to me,” says Ambrosio. Angelique’s giving back to Nicolet for providing the support to pursue and achieve her dreams.
on achieving
“Not only did I grow up at Nicolet a little more as a person, but it was a great start for giving me the ability to jump somewhere else.”
