“Everyone who comes to Mallorca takes something of the wealth the island offers back with them. For us, it is also important to give something back,” says Marc Kuenzle explaining his sustainable design. It is true to this concept that Marc and his business partner Lilian Trachsel, both from Switzerland, create “made in Mallorca” furniture pieces which are part of the Casa Lima Collection: customised sun loungers and terrace furniture that is all made on Mallorca. It’s a philosophy perfectly in keeping with the zeitgeist.The store’s carpentry shop is in Consell. Here the best quality select woods are made into durable and timeless furniture pieces. “Sustainability is important to us, that the wood doesn’t lose its shape or bend under weight or break, and that it is long lasting,”

Daher kreiert der Schweizer mit seiner Geschäftspartnerin Lilian Trachsel im Rahmen der `Casa Lima Collection´ Möbel-stücke „made in Mallorca“: Maß gefertigte Sonnenliegen und Terrassenmöbel, die komplett auf Mallorca hergestellt werden. Eine Philosophie, die den Zeitgeist trifft! Die eigene Schreinerei befindet sich in Consell. Hier werden ausgesuchte, hochwer-tige Hölzer zu stabilen, zeitlosen Sitzgelegenheiten verarbeitet. „Uns ist die Nach-haltigkeit wichtig, dass sich die Hölzer nicht verformen, sich nicht unter Gewicht biegen oder gar brechen und somit langlebig sind“, unterstreicht Marc Kuenzle das Konzept. Ein anderes Qualitätsmerkmal sind die Rollen: Damit sich die Liegen leicht

The design is characterised by further well thought out details: “We invested a lot of love and time in the development of the prototypes,” says Marc proudly. The mattresses and coverings have also all been made on the island with water resistant yet soft fabrics with Mediterranean designs. The result of all this effort and hard work is a beautiful and well-made collection of terrace furniture.“Just because the furniture is made on Mallorca doesn’t mean it has to be more expensive than furniture made in developing countries. Switching to local production not only makes sense but is also impor-tant for our environment!” The people behind Casa Lima have therefore decided to support local crafts and trade on Mallorca. It’s an approach that not only provides jobs in this field on the island and promotes the handmade furnishings sector, but also offers customers the chance to buy individually finished, customised furnishings for in and outside the home. A further benefit is the relatively short delivery time of the items, as they don’t have to be shipped and therefore have fewer transport problems. The interior design and furniture store Casa Lima in the renowned Calle Pelaires only opened two years ago, yet it is already hard to imagine the centre of Palma’s old town without it. Step into the store and you are taken on a journey of good taste with rare gems from all over the world, all of which have a story to tell. Decorative and modern lamps as well as practical furnishings and accessories complete the range of select designer items.Marc Kuenzle has already been coming to Mallorca regularly for 17 years and moved here in 2009. “My passion is furniture and interior design,” he says. A few years ago, he got to know bag maker and jewellery designer Lilian Trachsel, then joining together to create Casa Lima. The store is a dream come true for both and inspires others to follow them – on a jour-ney through a magical Mallorca full of possibilities! •
