In the Loop I have decided to publish a monthly newsletter rather than publishing so often on my private Facebook page. All things dance will be uploaded to my new Maddison Glover Line Dance page. My intentions of this monthly newsletter is to include: monthly teaches at my Illawarra classes, workshop teaches, event updates and new choreography. To receive my latest dances before online sites have access to them, join my mailing list. I now have a French mailing list which will include my step sheets translated in French. I am also working on having the monthly newsletter translated. If you are wanting to be added to this email group, please inform me. 15th February

Western Australian Pink Boot Charity Ball

SATURDAY MORNING WEST STATE LINE UP COMPETITIONThe registration numbers had doubled since the last time I was there in 2016. There was also a large number of spectators in the audience who without a doubt lifted the energy of the competitors. The interstate judges: Myself alongside Jessica Lamb, Adrian Lefebour, Jessie & Ryan Riethmuller, Jamie & Stacey Robinson, Kate Smith, Elise Spinks, Chris Watson all volunteered their time and skills for the weekend. Congratulations to all participants and I hope you will be encouraged to continue to compete at the WSLU and other Australian competitions.

SATURDAY MORNING WORKSHOP I had the honour of hosting a mini workshop during the lunchtime break. I started with ‘Crystal Touch’ (32c. 4 Wall. Low-Improver) co-choreographed with Claire Bell. I then went on to ‘trial’ my new dance ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’ (48c. 1 Wall. Phrased Intermediate). Sheet to be released end of March.

SATURDAY EVENING CHARITY BALLTheme: Teal & White (Colours of the Steve Waugh Foundation) About the Steve Waugh Foundation: To raise funds and promote support for children and families impacted by rare diseases.

Rachael, the mother of daughter Holly who is affected by a rare disease spoke about: the support of the foundation, the emotional rollercoaster of Holly being diagnosed with a disease with little research and how this disease affects Holly specifically. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room during this speech.

Rhys Pearce also delivered a heart wrenching speech about another family, with multiple children affected.

A set program allowed clubs to ‘touch up’ on dances they hadn’t danced in some time or perhaps learn some new dances. This definitely showed as the floor was comfortably full for the majority of the evening.

Recognition: To Donna & Rhys Pearce and Glen Dale for hosting such a prestigious event. You have built this event from the ground up and I wish you all the success for many years to come. The power couple: Rhys & Donna. Thank you for motivating so many people in W.A to step out of their comfort zone. The west coast are very lucky to have you.

TEN DAYS IN

21-22nd February Twinkly-Toes: Esvres (37)

I landed in Paris at lunchtime on Friday morning and traveled to Esvres for the event. I was unaware that a dance party was to be hosted on the Friday evening so it was off the plane and onto the dance floor after a thirty(+) hour journey. Ay ay. ay. It was so nice to see so many familiar faces on the other side of the world. This still amazes me.

On Saturday we had workshops/ dancing from 9:30am-6pm. The Roaring 20’s dance party commenced and ran until just before 1am. It was a huge day and they made the workshop very enjoyable. The level of dance was high and the preferred style was newline. DANCES TAUGHT:Choose Joy (RM), Crystal Touch (MG & CB), Don’t Wanna Fight (MG), La Bomba (FW & SM), Rain Dance (TA), Turning Tables (TG & MG), You Need to Calm Down (AL & JL)

Many thanks to Flo, Lawrence and the Twinkly Line Dancers for hosting me. Your group were great! Enjoy my fellow Aussie, Simon, in December 2020.

23-28th February Nice with Jose & Roy Verdonk Crazy Cactus Company

I traveled from Lyon > Nice to meet the dancers at an all inclusive resort. Our Monday-Thursday schedule included: -Workshops/ Recaps (3 hours) -Dance Break/ Lunch (4 hours) -Workshops/ Recaps (3 hours)-Dinner Break-Open Dancing (2.5 hours)

I feel so lucky to have been selected to work alongside Roy Verdonk and Jose. They provided the group and myself with endless laughter all week. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the boys as I have not had the opportunity to work closely with them previously (besides Vegas Dance Explosion).

A French country singer joined us for one night and played a 2.5 hour set. I certainly made the most of a whole dance set list to country music. This was one of my most enjoyable nights of the week. At the final morning workshop, Marie presented me with a gift on behalf of the Crazy Cactus Company; A bottle of my favourite French wine Monbazillac and a plastic cow to represent my favourite French expression “Oh la vache”. My favourite dance taught: Nothing Like You - Roy & Jeffke I have been in love with this song since it was released. The song certainly pulled on the heartstrings and the dance is beautiful. I look forward to teaching it. DANCES TAUGHT:Crystal Touch (MG & CB), Turning Tables (MG & TG), One Less Day (TG), Morning Sun (RMH), Belles Belles Belles (MG), Half Past Tipsy (RM & MG), Rain Dance (TA), Homesick Heart. (MG), Don’t Wanna Fight (MG), Turn the Beat Up (MG)

29th February - Grenoble (Sassenage) (38)

This was my final workshop in France for 2020/2021 so I wanted to make sure that we finished with a bang. Friday night began with wine, cheese and new friends. I knew a great weekend was installed for us all.

Nadine (Nad Gab) was the event director and I felt like I had known her for many many years. She is a wonderful person and was the perfect host for the weekend. I fell in love with the venue immediately. It was in a dance studio with a very intimate setting. The energy at the workshop was very uplifting and just what I needed to keep me going. DANCES TAUGHT:Crystal Touch (MG & CB), Don’t Wanna Fight (MG), Feel the Heat (MG, RV, JMBV), Morning. Sun (RMH), Rain Dance (TA), Southern Dreams (MG)

We had a dance party in the evening and it felt like I was in a country bar in America. Nad had the youtube/ video clips for each dance displayed on the projector, the party lights were on and lots of modern country music was played and danced to. It really was ‘my kinda party’. Random- Often when I am away, I am curious to see what ‘classic/ golden oldies’ are danced both internationally and within Australia. I was blown away when I saw ‘Southern Streamline’ on the playlist. The Aussies and Kiwis (New Zealanders) will know this one. Note: Southern Dreams will be released mid- April. Feel the Heat & Don’t Wanna Fight will be released late March/ Early April.

Merci Beaucoup to all the wonderful French line dancers who made me feel so welcome this week. Your smiles, gifts and love for dance made me very happy.
