ISO/TC 211
Resolution 807 (Redlands) Joint work with ISO/TC 59/SC 13 Organization of information about construction worksNoting Resolution 776 and ISO/TC 59/SC 13 Resolution 195, ISO/TC 211 welcomes Standards Norway, in consultation with the Swedish Standards Institute, to organize a workshop in conjunction with the next plenary in Stockholm, Sweden. The aim of the workshop would be to establish a new work item proposal for a joint stage 0 project to be carried out by a joint working group between ISO/TC 211 and ISO/TC 59/SC 13. ISO/TC 211 appreciates the offer of the United Kingdom to assist with the new work item proposal. In preparation, Standards Norway will prepare a draft proposal to be discussed at the workshop. The draft proposal will be circulated to ISO/TC 211 and to ISO/TC 59/SC 13. Recognizing the renewed MoU between OGC and buildingSMART, ISO/TC 211 invites OGC and buildingSMART to join the workshop to be held in Stockholm.
Resolution 776 (Tromsø) Joint work with ISO/TC 59/SC 13 – Buildings and civil engineering works – Organization of information about construction worksNoting the ongoing discussion in WG 10 concerning the GIS-BIM integration and previous resolutions (575, 605, 690), ISO/TC 211 instructs the secretariat to contact the ISO/TC 59/SC 13 secretariat to discuss how to organize joint work between the two committees.

ISO/TC 211 Ad hoc group on GIS/BIM (2012-06 til 2014-11)
The expanding overlap between the activities of the users of the standards developed by these two standardization technical committees (ISO/TC 211 and ISO/TC 59/SC 13) has lead members of ISO/TC 211 to call for an examination into how best to address the issues of overlap from the standpoint of each technical committee’s current standardization activities.

Why BIM and GIS is important(from a Government regulator perspective)
709/06/2017
– Building Information Modelling is growing in the AEC industry
– In real life projects a robust communication flow between GIS system and BIM system fundamental
– With use of BIM the AEC industry will produce information relevant for the GIS system owners

• Schema for structured information• Syntax for exchange (SPF, XML,
…)• Unique repository for all
construction related information (elements, relationships, properties)
– What does it not define?• Scope for software implementation• Scope of information needs from

Aim of workshop
• Better understanding of the two platforms• Similarities and discrepancies between the two platforms• Mapping between concepts in GIS and BIM – Where are the
main challenges?• Joint work between ISO/TC 211 and ISO/TC 59 SC13 to
ensure interoperability by removing interoperability barriers between the standards, in close cooperation with Building Smart and OGC.
