Objectives• Outline the evolution of the Development
Academy to the Girls Academy League.
• Discuss top benefits players will experience as a result of the move to the Girls Academy League.
• Define Beadling’s player development pathway in light of the changes.
The Girls Soccer Landscape the last 5 Years
Previously, there have been three distinct showcase leagues.
US Soccer Development
Academy
• Established in 2017
• Between 60-70 clubs each 10-month season
• Sponsored by US Soccer
• High School Soccer NOT Permitted
• Club Based League
• U15, U16, U17, U18/U19
• No participating Pittsburgh clubs
• Stringent Substitution Rules
• Highest set of standards for player and coach development
The Elite Clubs National League
(ECNL)
• Established in 2009
• 96 clubs
• High School Soccer Permitted
• Sponsored by US Club
• Club Based League
• U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18/U19, U18/U19 Composite
• One Pittsburgh Club - RDA
United States Youth Soccer National League
• Established in 2007
• 32 teams per age group
• High School Soccer Permitted
• Sponsored by USYSA
• Team Based League
• U14, U15, U16, U17, U18, U19
• Multiple Pittsburgh Teams
So where are we now?
The Girls Academy League
• Established in 2020
• Made up of most of the existing members of the USSDA and a few new clubs
• High School Soccer Permitted
• Club Based League
• U14, U15, U16, U17, U19 (combined U18/U19)
• No other Western PA participating clubs
• Less Stringent Substitution Rules
• Highest standards for player and coach development
• Beadling is the only Pittsburgh club
