together, from a walkthrough this week at The
Royalty Theatre to Technical and Dress
Rehearsals. The performance will be at 1pm
Thursday 28th November. Tickets go on sale
next Monday the 18th at $10 each.

The Melbourne Cup is an
iconic Australian event. Our
class looked at what it meant
to Australians. This year the
Melbourne Cup took place on
Tuesday the 5th of November
and was attended by an ex-
traordinary amount of people,
104,000 in total. All of them
came to watch 24 horses
battle it out to win the covet-
ed Melbourne Cup trophy.
Jockey Damien Oliver, riding
Fiorente was this year’s winner
of the Melbourne Cup.
Trainer Gai Waterhouse has
been in the business for 21
years and this was her first
ever win of the Cup. Gai Wa-
terhouse held back her tears
as she made the acceptance
speech she had waited all her
life to deliver.
Hope you enjoyed your
Mel-
bourne
Cup as
much as
we did.

Remembrance Day 2013
The Australian Geographic ANZANG
Nature Photographer of the Year Exhibition
To the year 6/7’s of Gilles
Street Primary, Remembrance
Day is a part of our culture
and Australian history. To us,
this special day in our year can
be both emotional and
inspirational. It is a time when
we take a minute to think of
those who died while serving
during the wars that Australia
was a part of. These soldiers,
nurses, officers and everyone
in between made the supreme
sacrifice for us and also their
families. It is a time to under-
stand conflict all around the
world and think of the people
who had to cope with the
ordeal of living without their
loved ones.

Viewing this exhibition of
nature photography was a jaw
dropping experience. On the
22nd of October, Bu Val’s class
went to this beautiful
exhibition at the South
Australian Museum. It was filled
with photography that was
spectacular. There were so
many categories; from animal
behaviour to black and white
and junior photography. I loved
every bit of it, even the snake
photos. Every detail could be
seen in the images. It was a
breathtaking experience.

St. Luke’s
SRC has decided to do some fundraising to send to an NGO
to help the thousands of Philippino victims of a devastating
typhoon. We will join forces with Angela and her wonderful
class, from Room 4, for a monster cake stall next Tuesday 19th
November at recess. Bring along your gold coins to buy some
treats!
SRC has invited all our Philippino students to attend our next
meeting to discuss what other fundraisers we could take part
in and to decide on the NGO ie Save the Children, World
Vision, Red Cross.
Other plans for Term 4 are to continue our creek clean up,
organise a handball knockout competition, create our QR
code SRC trail for new students, Christmas donations and a
couple of fun recess and lunchtime activities. We also raised
$400 for CANTEEN - Young People Living with Cancer.

St. Luke’s is a city community centre. St. Luke’s is a
15 minute walk from our school. At St. Luke’s we
eat and work for three hours. When we get there we split into groups -
cooking, craft, mosaics and wool.
In the mosaics group we get tiles and smash them with a hammer. We wear
safety goggles and cover the tiles with a sheet. We are making butterflies for
Walyo Yerta to put on poles.
