The three gili islands, composed of gili Trawangan, gili Meno and gili Air are located off the northwest coast of lombok. in Sasak language, "gili" means "small island. " There are more than 30 gilis around lombok but Trawangan, Meno and Air are by far the most frequently visited. Because of their proximity to the equator, they have a tropical climate throughout the year with an average air temperature of 28C and water temperatures ranging from 26 to 29C. The rainy season runs from november to April and the dry season from May to October. The gilis bathe in the Bali Sea, at the convergence of the indian and Pacific Oceans and enjoy a drier

micro-climate than the rest of indonesia due in part to the fact that they are situated between two great volcanoes- Mount Rinjani on lombok and Mount Agung on Bali.like the majority of the lombok community, the inhabitants of the gili islands are primarily Muslim and each island has a mosque(s) emitting sounds of live prayer five times daily. Bahasa indonesia is the national language spoken that unites all of the country’s islands but gili locals speak Sasak gili Air which is slightly different to Sasak lombok.About 200 years ago, fishermen from Sulawesi of Makassar, Bugis and Mandar ethnicities arrived on

the gili islands. They began to settle temporarily because of the abundance of fish in the sea and the presence of fresh water on gili Air and at that time, sectioning off a bit of land with string was enough to claim it. These otherwise nomadic people began to settle in the gilis and cultivate the land, planting peanuts, tapioca and corn whilst continuing their tradition of fishing. They sold and exchanged their produce in the markets of lombok and also traded portions of their land for livestock, rice and other much needed items not native to the islands. Coconut palms are indigenous to the gilis while mango, banana and papaya trees have been

The first western traveler to set foot on the gili islands came in 1984 to gili Air. By the mid 1990’s Bali had gained international recognition as a travel destination and the gilis began to be known as an off-the-beaten-track paradise escape. Today, the gili islands are flourishing and are attracting all types of visitors from every corner of the globe.

Over time, the people of the gili islands have adapted to a multitude of changes and cultural immersions but have managed to maintain their cultural identity. historically the people here have seen their days of hardship when during wwii, lombok and the gili islands were occupied by Japanese forces. The islands were used to contain prisoners of war and the locals endured forced labour. A hill situated on the south of Trawangan was used as a lookout post and today remnants of the bunker still remain. Trawangan derived it's name from the indonesian word "terowongan" meaning "tunnels" of which a network were dug by the occupying forces. The holes have since been filled in.

Le Bahasa Indonesia est la langue nationale de l'Indonésie que tout le monde parle, mais sachez qu'aux îles Gili les habitants, entre eux, parlent le Sasak Gili Air, un dialecte, un peu différent du Sasak de Lombok. Il y a environ 200 ans, des pêcheurs de Sulawesi, des groupes ethniques Macassar, Bugis et Mandar sont arrivés sur les îles Gilis. Ils s'y sont installés car les eaux étaient très poissonneuses et aussi pour la présence d'eau douce sur Gili Air. à cette époque, il suffisait de délimiter un terrain avec une ficelle et de le nettoyer pour se l'approprier. Ces pêcheurs nomades se sont donc sédentarisés et ont commencé à cultiver des cacahuètes, du tapioca et du maïs tout en continuant la pêche. Ils vendaient ensuite leur produits ou faisaient du troc dans

les marchés de Lombok. Parfois ils échangeaient leur terre contre une vache ou d'autres produits qu'ils ne possédaient pas aux îles Gilis, notamment le riz. Les cocotiers ont toujours été présents sur les îles, les mangues, bananes et papayes sont venues plus tard.

Le premier étranger venu de l'occident est arrivé en 1984 à Gili Air et les premiers touristes, dans les années 90 lorsque Bali a acquis sa réputation mondiale ! Aujourd'hui, les îles Gilis sont de plus en plus populaires et séduisent un bon nombre de voyageurs venus de différentes horizons.

Au fil du temps, les habitants des îles Gili se sont adaptés à une multitude de changements et d'immersions culturelles, mais ont réussi à conserver leur identité. Historiquement, ils ont vécu des moments difficiles. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'île de Lombok et les Gilis étaient occupées par les forces japonaises. Les îles ont été utilisées pour maintenir les prisonniers de guerre et les habitants ont subi le travail forcé. Une colline située au sud de Trawangan a été utilisée comme poste d'observation et aujourd'hui les vestiges d'un bunker demeurent. Trawangan dérive son nom du mot indonésien "terowongan" signifiant «tunnel», un réseau a été creusé par les forces d'occupation. Les trous ont depuis été rebouchés.

There are fantastic parties every night of the week that attract large crowds of people from all different walks of life and every corner of the globe. nightly features start with a sizzling local food market and advance into live music, beach parties and DJ's. There's also the option of watching movies screened at an open air beach "theatre." The rumored growth of Trawangan from a backpacker island into something of a glam island is supported by the unveiling

of new upscale boutiques, restaurants, resorts, spas, and now a heli-pad, however, it remains a hub of charm for a wide spectrum of travelers. it's an iconic island of variety with numerous options for every budget/lifestyle for eating, sleeping (backpacker dorms to luxury villas), entertainment and activities. gili T has extraordinarily beautiful beaches and shimmering ocean waters of crystal-clear visibility for diving and snorkeling. This island boasts some of the finest coral gardens and the widest range of dive centers with the best socializing opportunities. Although it is predominately known as a party island, gili T has much more to it and venturing away from the densely developed east coast, you can find a plethora of vacant beaches. Renting a bicycle is a great way to see the island, bearing in mind there are some sandy patches! Seeing how life works here can be very eye-opening: it's not an escape from reality- just a slightly different one but understandably surreal nonetheless! There are several conservation organizations based here including gili Eco Trust (gET) and The gili Shark foundation- ask around (try dive centers) about how you can get involved! As you may know- there is no motorized transport in the gilis and what a soothing break that can be! Surfing is popular off the south and it's not unwise to speak to locals about the break. for a supreme viewpoint walk up the hill on the south that was previously used as a lookout during ww ii.

Pour un point de vue suprême, marchez jusqu'à la colline au sud, vous y trouverez un vestige (une batterie d'artillerie) de la seconde guerre mondiale.

Autres points d'intérêt sur Meno, le parc aux oiseaux (Bird Park) et le centre de conservation des tortues (Meno Turtle Conservation), essentiellement

Monitor lizards (varanus sp.) are large and robust reptiles with a strong and powerful tail and a long and forked tongue. According to the species, it can vary in length, from 20cm to 3 metres and they can weigh up to 70 kg ! They are “cold-blooded” or ectothermic animals, which means that their body temperature conforms to that of their surroundings. They get their energy from external sources, like the sun, and must regulate their temperature through behaviour such as withdrawing to the shade.

Les varans (Varanus sp.) sont des reptiles grands et robustes qui ont une queue forte et puissante et une langue longue et fourchue. with a degree in marine environmental science and wide work experience in marine conservation and environment social education in Southeast Asia, Richard came to gili Trawangan five years ago to work as a Reef Check instructor at Manta Dive. Trying to keep his fingers in the marine conservation field, he is now one of the passionate people behind the gili Shark foundation, an organization established to protect the local shark population and to raise awareness about shark conservation. from data collection to shark releases and sponsorship campaigns, Richard and his team made of local volunteers, dive instructors and professionals are transforming the waters around the gilis in a safe haven for sharks.

Established in 2013 by conservationist Steve woods, the gili Shark foundation was set up to monitor the shark population around the waters of the gili islands. The main goals of the organization are to protect and research local shark populations, to raise awareness about shark conservation efforts in the gilis and to educate on the importance of marine life preservation. One of their key activities is the collection of data about sharks, turtles, mantas and other marine organisms. with the collaboration of the dive shops, the aim is to record marine life sightings at every single dive. Moreover, the Shark foundation rescues sharks from local fishermen and releases them in the gilis. This action is

currently under the “Adopt a Shark” sponsorship campaign. next time you go for a dive to Shark Point, look around and take pictures and notes, you will be contributing to protecting marine biodiversity in indonesia!

Etablie en 2013 par l'environnementaliste Steve Wood, Gili Shark Foundation a été créée pour surveiller la population des requins autour des îles Gili. What is the biggest threat to sharks?Quelle est la menace principale pour les reQuins?The biggest threat is still fishing. Every morning, before the dive boats go out, there are a lot of fishing boats around the gilis. They are allowed to line fish but not to net fish, but regulations are not enforced. A live manta from indonesia can be worth few million dollars in tourism. They can sell it for 600 dollars, but it's worth millions. it's hard to tell fishermen that a manta is better off swimming free in the ocean. Swimming with dolphins is still a tourist attraction and shark fins are considered a delicacy. it is important to raise awareness about this market and to tell tourists not to support this business.La menace principale reste la pêche. Chaque jour, avant que les bateaux des centres de plongée sortent, autour des Gilis il y a beaucoup de bateaux de pêche. Ils ont le droit de pêcher à la ligne, mais pas au filet. Cependant, les règles ne sont pas respectées. En Indonésie, une raie vivante peut valoir des millions de dollars pour le tourisme. On peut la vendre pour 600 dollars, mais elle en vaut des millions. Every diver can get involved by diving with a participating dive centre and log their dive to record the presence of sharks, rays, turtles and other animals. The idea is to record every single dive, not just the sightings of the animals on the data collection sheet.Les données collectées sont disponibles à tous ceux qui veulent les utiliser et elles sont très utiles pour comprendre la population marine actuelle et mener des actions pour la protéger. MENO WALLlET'S gO fOR A RiDE!...

Situated in the north-west of gili Meno, Meno wall is a wall starting at 5 meters deep and descending to 23 meters. Mostly a quiet ride with a faint current (sometimes non-existent) which allows you to explore each cavity. if you dive during the monsoon, the current will probably be stronger and leave less chance for the exploration, but you will get the opportunity to do, on the same dive, Meno Slope which is situated between Meno wall and the Bounty wreck. On the slope you will meet Octopus, Sweetlips, Batfish, and Turtles. On the wall you will be able to see Scorpionfish, Shrimp, nudibranch, Crab, and school of Snapper. The diversity is such that you will go from one discovery to another. This site is also very adapted for night dives and suitable for all. Depending on the direction of the current you may end your stroll on the plateau at a depth of 5 meters, which is full of corals.

Situé au nord- ouest de Gili Meno, Meno Wall est un mur commençant à 5 mètres de profondeur et descendant jusqu'à 23 mètres. C'est généralement une promenade plutôt tranquille avec un courant faible, voire inexistant, permettant d'explorer chaque cavité. Si vous plongez lors de la mousson, le courant sera probablement plus fort et laissera moins de chance à l'exploration, mais vous aurez l'opportunité de faire, dans la même plongée, le slope de Meno qui se trouve entre le mur et le Bounty Wreck. Sur le 'slope' vous rencontrerez poulpes, gaterins, platax, tortues, alors qu'au niveau du mur, vous aurez davantage le loisir de voir des poissons scorpions, crevettes, nudibranches, crabes, bancs de vivaneaux. La diversité est telle que vous irez de découverte en découverte. Site très adapté également aux plongées de nuit et accessible à tous niveaux. Selon le sens du courant, vous pourrez terminer votre balade sur le plateau à 5 mètres de profondeur, lui-même très garni de coraux.

The spotted garden eel is a small eel that spends most of its life with the upper body swaying in the water currents and its lower body into the sand, where it hides if sensing danger. This cute creature can grow about 40 cm for 14 mm of body diameter; it is black as a juvenile, but as it grows it becomes whitish with black spots on the side of the body.

L'anguille jardinière est une petite anguille qui passe la plupart de sa vie avec la moitié de son corps enfouis sous le sable, où elle se cache en cas de danger, la tête dépasseant et ondulant avec les courants. Cette jolie créature peut atteindre 40 cm de longueur et 14 mm de diamètre. Le corps est totalement noir jusqu'à la maturité, lorsqu'il devient blanchâtre avec des pois noir sur le coté.

Afin de rendre son terrier plus solide et éviter qu'il s'écroule, l'anguille jardinière couvre les parois d'une pâte faite de mucus et de sable.

hABiTATThe spotted garden eel lives in colonies of thousands of individuals, on sandy bottoms near the reef. The average density is of 15 individuals per square metre, with the dominant male living in the centre. it occurs in the indo-Pacific ocean and in warm tropical waters at depths of 7 to 50 metres. Due to its eating habits, it is mainly found in areas with strong currents.L'anguille jardinière vit en colonies de milliers d'individus sur les fonds sableux près du récif. La densité est d'environ 15 individus par mètre carré et le mâle dominant vit au centre. On peut en trouver dans l'océan Indo-Pacifique et dans les eaux tropicales entre 7 et 50 mètres de profondeur. En raison de ses habitudes alimentaires, elle vit principalement dans les zones où le courant est plus puissant.

DiETColonies of garden eels feed on drifting plankton, this is why they can be seen with the head out of the sand and the mouth open, all facing the same direction and swaying like seagrass. They are waiting for food as it flows past with the underwater current!Les colonies d'anguilles jardinières se nourrissent de plancton, voilà pourquoi on les voit la tête hors du sable et la bouche ouverte visant la même direction et ondulant comme une prairie sous-marine. REPRODuCTiOnwhen mating season come, male and females get closer, moving their burrow towards each other. They then stretch and reach out to the closest individual of the

opposite gender and intertwine their bodies. After mating, the female releases eggs in the water, which will hatch in the currents. The larvae will drift until their are big enough to dig their own burrow tail-first.En vue de la saison des amours, les mâles et les femelles déplacent leur terrier pour s'approcher l'un de l'autre. Ils s'étirent pour toucher l'individu du sexe opposé le plus proche et ils enchevêtrent leur corps. Après l'accouplement, la femelle pond les oeufs dans l'eau. L'éclosion a lieu dans la mer et les larves continueront de se faire porter par le courant jusqu'à ce qu'elles soient assez grandes pour creuser, à leur tour, leur terrier avec leur propre queue.

Snorkeling (mask, snorkel, fins) is a good way to freely explore the waters around gili islands! you can see turtles, all kinds of fish, blue-spotted stingrays... let yourself drift with the current, whilst being careful because sometimes it can be very strong! you can rent the equipment very easily on all three islands. Another alternative is a snorkeling trip - a day out on a boat. you leave in the morning around 9am for a full circuit of the gilis, visiting the best snorkeling spots of the three islands. you stop for lunch and finish about 4pm. you can book this trip on site or at your hotel.Le snorkeling (masque, tuba, palmes) est un bon moyen d'explorer les fonds marins des îles Gili en toute liberté ! Vous pourrez apercevoir des tortues, toutes sortes de poissons, des raies pastenague à points bleus... Laissez-vous dériver par le courant en faisant attention car parfois il peut être très fort ! Vous pourrez louer le matériel très facilement sur les trois îles. Autre alternative, le snorkeling trip, sortie en bateau pour la journée. Vous partez le matin vers 9h pour un tour complet des Gilis, en visitant les meilleurs spots de snorkeling des trois îles. Vous vous arrêtez pour le déjeuner et rentrez vers 16h. Vous pouvez réserver cette sortie en mer sur place ou à votre hôtel.

On another sunny day in paradise on the gili islands off the coast of lombok, indonesia, my family and i were privileged to take part in the release of 4 reef sharks, representing fin free Melbourne. it was also incredibly fitting that this important event took place on wORlD OCEAnS DAy, a small yet crucial step to aid the increase of shark populations in a location where they are in rapid decline.

Par un jour ensoleillé comme les autres dans les îles paradisiaques de Gili, au large de la côte de Lombok en Indonésie, ma famille et moi avons eu le privilège d’assister à la remise en liberté de quatre requins de récif par l’association Fin free Melbourne. Heureuse coïncidence, cette importante opération a eu lieu en même temps que la JOURNéE MONDIALE DES OCéANS. Ce type d’actions, qui peut sembler être une goutte d’eau dans la mer, a un rôle fondamental pour la sauvegarde des requins dans un endroit où leur population est en rapide déclin.

we met up with Delphine Robbe (gili Eco Trust) at Trawangan Dive Centre and soon hopped onto one of the centre’s dive boats to ready ourselves for the release. Trawangan Dive Centre have been consistent supporters of Bali Shark’s release program and again, provided assistance in the use of their dive boat for the release of the sharks.

Today Diversia Dive Centre were also playing a special role by adopting the 4 reef sharks, naming them and taking part in the release of the sharks into the blue waters of gili Trawangan. The sharks were rescued from fishermen in Bali - too small for finning, they would most likely have been thrown away.

it is encouraging to see businesses such as Diversia support organisations such as Bali Sharks - they know that without sharks, the ocean’s ecosystem will fall apart.

Paul friese (Bali Sharks) soon arrived on gili Trawangan with the

4 reef sharks that he had been raising at Bali Shark’s nursery at Serangan island, Bali. The sharks (3 male Black Tips and 1 female white Tip) were then transferred from the fast boat over to the dive boat in the harbour to prepare for the release.

next step was opening up the boxes to check the health of the sharks and with all of them breathing and in good condition the boat moved a little further out off the shore to get ready for the release. Representatives from all groups were excited to witness what was going to occur next, the moment where these majestic creatures would be set free into the ocean where they belong.

One by one, the sharks were carefully placed over the side of the boat into the water, where some of the people from the boat had hopped in and were there waiting to watch the sharks release. A couple of the sharks were a little dazed

after being in transit but after a bit of careful guidance they swam off into deeper waters, back where they belong.

This was the 8th event by Bali Sharks (29 Sharks released in total) and with many sharks waiting their turn back at Shark island, there is ample opportunity for people to adopt a shark and show their support. Adoption funds are used to improve and maintain sea pens, purchase food and for vital shark transport materials.

Nous avons rencontré Delphine Robbe de Gili Eco Trust au club de plongée Trawangan Dive Center. Nous avons embarqué dans l'un des bateaux de plongée du centre pour nous préparer à la relâche des requins. Ce club de Trawangan a activement participé à cette opération entreprise par l’association Bali Sharks, et a aussi fourni un bateau de plongée pour la remise en liberté des requins.

Aujourd'hui, le centre de plongée Diversia a également joué un rôle particulier en adoptant et en donnant un nom à chacun des quatre requins de récif, tout en prenant part à leur libération dans les eaux bleues de Gili Trawangan. Les requins ont été sauvés des filets de pêcheur à Bali : trop petits pour être découpés pour leurs nageoires, ils auraient probablement été jetés.Voir des entreprises telles que Diversia soutenir des organisations comme Bali Sharks est très encourageant : c’est un fait connu que sans les requins, l'écosystème de l'océan est voué au déclin.

Paul Friese de Bali Sharks arrive à Gili Trawangan avec les quatre requins de récif qu'il a soignés et élevés dans un bassin sur l'île de Serangan à Bali. Les requins, trois mâles à pointes noires et une femelle à pointes blanches, ont ensuite été transférés à partir du fast boat sur le bateau de plongée dans le port pour se préparer à leur relâche.

L'étape suivante a été l'ouverture des boîtes pour vérifier l’état de santé des requins. Après s’être assuré qu’ils n’étaient pas privés d’oxygène, le bateau est allé au large des côtes pour se préparer à leur libération. Les représentants des différents groupes étaient impatients d'assister à ce qui allait se passer par la suite : le moment où ces créatures majestueuses seraient libérées dans l'océan, leur véritable place.

Un à un, les requins ont été soigneusement déposés dans la mer d’un seul côté du bateau. Quelques personnes à bord étaient dans l’eau pour observer de près

comment les requins étaient relâchés. Certains des requins étaient légèrement étourdis par le transport, mais avec un peu d’aide, ils ont retrouvé leurs repères et ont pu nager au loin dans des eaux profondes, leur habitat naturel.

C’est la huitième fois que l’association Bali Sharks organise ce type d’événement (29 requins ont été relâchés au total) et de nombreux requins attendent d’être remis en liberté à leur tour à Shark Island. Il est possible de soutenir cette initiative en adoptant un requin. Les fonds récoltés par l’adoption sont utilisés pour améliorer et maintenir les refuges naturels marins, mais permettent aussi d’acheter de la nourriture et des objets vitaux pour le transport des requins.

Shark is a common name that comprises a very diverse group of fish classified as Selachimorpha, a very old clade of animals that dates over 420 million years. Characterized by a skeleton made of cartilage and pectoral fins not fused to the head, they display between 5 to 7 gills and have multiple rows of teeth. There are over 500 species of shark distributed in the waters of the whole world, preferring depths of around 2,000 metres. According to the species, size and behaviour vary greatly; while small dwarf lanternsharks measure less then 20 cm, whale sharks can grow up to 20 metres and are the largest fish in the world. all sharks are carnivores, their food preferences range from larger preys such as fish and marine mammals to crustaceans and microscopic plankton.

Sharks have an extremely acute sense of smell. Some species can detect one part per million of blood in seawater and one part tuna extract in 10 billion parts. They can detect the direction of a scent based on the time of perception.

The secret of eternal youth is kept in lombok, in a special place where water believed to have magic properties springs directly into the hands of devout visitors.

located in lembuak village, 10 km from Mataram, Taman narmada is a peculiar park that was built by king Anak Agung gede ngurah karang Asem in 1727 AD. This park is named after one of the sixth holy rivers of india, the narmada river, the word narmadā being a Sanskrit word meaning "the giver of Pleasure".

Taman narmada is a park that bears important spiritual meaning for local indonesians of hindu faith, who come to pray in the Pura Agung narmada, the temple located in the park complex. Beside the temple, the park is best known for being laid out to look like the summit of Rinjani volcano with its lake. The gardens are well maintained and there are pools where it is possible to swim. This historical site is also home to a fountain, which is linked to a water tunnel directly sourced from Mount Rinjani. The tunnel was built over 100 years ago and it is said that drinking this water make people look and feel younger.

Taman narmada is open from 7am to 6pm, the entrance fee is 10,000 rupees and it is advised to make a donation. Avoid weekends, when it gets very crowded with local people making offers and bathing in the pools.

Le Taman Narmada se trouve dans le village de Lembuak à 10km de Mataram. Outres le temple, le parc est connu pour représenter le sommet du volcan Rinjani et son lac. Les jardins sont bien entretenus et il y a des bassins où l'on peut se baigner. Dans ce site historique il y a aussi une fontaine connectée à un tunnel qui prend sa source directement du Rinjani. Le tunnel a été construit il y a plus que 100 ans et on dit que boire cette eau rend les gens plus jeunes.

Le Taman Narmada est ouvert de 7 h du matin à 6h de l’après-midi, l’entrée coute 10,000 roupies et il est conseillé de faire une donation. Evitez les week-ends, lorsque le parc est très fréquenté par les habitants locaux qui font des offrandes et se baignent dans les bassins.

if you can afford to, spend one night at Amatoa Resort, built on the rocks over the cliff with direct access to the sea, with an infinity pool and stunning sunsets. The food is basic, more or less spicy, made of rice, fish, chicken, tofu, tempe, vegetables and fruits. not to be missed is warung Bambu, a family restaurant where you feel welcome and can enjoy local dishes at low cost, and Salassa guest house where the cuisine is more elaborate and where the foreign boat builders like to hang out. in Bira, don't expect to find anything other than Bintang, the traditional indonesian beer, as an alcoholic beverage. Remember that Sulawesi has a strong Muslim influence and the consumption of alcohol is permitted only in a few touristic places. you should rent a bike to explore the surrounding villages such as Panrang luwuk, where you can enjoy swimming and snorkelling, and watch how the “pinisiq” are being built on the beach, or Tanah Beru which has become a favourite place for foreign boat builders who build mainly for diving trips. On the road to Tanah Beru, at the crossroads, turn right in the direction of Ara and keep driving until you reach a traditional village whose residents,

especially the children, are happy to greet you by a hand signal and a “hello Mister”. go down to the large and beautiful beach where you can enjoy swimming and watching the boats being built. Divers will be enchanted by Bira's crystal clear waters and rich in marine life. Be aware of currents which can be very strong, some dive sites being suitable for experienced divers only. très impregnée par la culture musulmane et la vente d'alcool est réglementée. lI est conseillé de louer un scooter pour aller explorer les villages voisins comme Panrang Luwuk où vous pourrez apprécier la baignade et le snorkeling et découvrir comment les locaux construisent sur la plage les “Pinisiq”, ou Tanah Beru devenu le lieu privilégié des constructeurs étrangers en matière de construction de bateaux de plongée. Sur la route qui mène à Tanah Beru, au croisement, tournez à droite en direction de Ara, et vous atteindrez un village où les habitants seront heureux de vous saluer par de grands signes de la main accompagnés d'un “Hello Mister”. Descendez jusqu'à la plage où vous pourrez profiter de ses eaux claires et admirer les bateaux en construction. Les passionnés de plongées seront ravis par les fonds marins de Bira où la faune et la flore sont d'une grande richesse. Attention cependant aux courants parfois dangereux, certaines plongées nécessitant un très bon niveau d'expérience. Enfin, savoir quelques mots d'Indonésien vous permettra de communiquer avec les locaux qui parlent peu anglais.

warung is one of the words in Bahasa indonesian you are likely to hear more often. Meaning “small restaurant”, in indonesia and in Malaysia a warung is an institution that indicates local food at a cheap price and in a familiar atmosphere. This word does not indicate the speed the meal will be served and it can be a fast food restaurant or a slow pace one according to what you decide to eat. if you go for nasi campur (mix rice), you will just have to pick what you want from the dishes on display and eat it right away. if you go for the warung best sellers such as mie goreng (fried noodles), nasi goreng (fried rice) or soto ayam (chicken soup), you will have the time to crack into a couple of krupuk (rice crackers) and burn your lips sipping a teh manis panas (sweetened hot tea) before you get served. in case you are daring and order some western dish on the menu, you may end up spending the whole day in the warung and eventually become a member of the local family who runs the place!

Le mot n'indique pas la vitesse dans laquelle on sert le repas et il peut s'agir de restauration rapide ou lente en fonction de ce que vous décidez de manger. Si vous prenez un "nasi campur" (riz mélangé), il vous suffira de choisir parmi les petites assiettes en vitrine et vous mangerez tout de suite. Si vous choisissez les best-sellers du warung tels quels les "mie goreng" (nouilles sautées), le "nasi goreng" ou le "soto ayam" (soupe de poulet), vous aurez le temps de craquer quelques "kerupuk" (crackers de riz) et de vous bruler les lèvres en buvant du "teh manis panas" (té chaud sucré) avant d'être servi. Si vous vous sentez aventureux et vous commandez des plats occidentaux qui sont dans le menu, vous risquez de passer toute la journée dans le warung pour finalement devenir un membre à part entière de la famille qui gère le restaurant !

in a bowl, sift the flour and mix in the egg and water until you have a smooth consistency. Season with salt and add the curry powder. Mix a little. wash and peel the vegetables and cut into thin slices. heat the oil to 180 degrees in a deep fryer or a wok. Dip the vegetables in the batter and then cook them in oil for 1-2 minutes depending on the thickness of the vegetable, turning halfway through cooking so it browns evenly. Take them out of the oil and let them drain on paper towels. Then prepare the garlic cream. Dip the vegetables in the sauce and enjoy! Peel and take the sprout out of the garlic cloves. Blanch the garlic to remove its strength, by putting it in cold water, boiling, then covering with more cold water. Pour the cream into a saucepan and add the garlic and thyme. Season lightly. Over a low heat, let the garlic infuse the cream and monitor the reduction. Stir the sauce. Check the seasoning.

Dans un bol, tamiser la farine et mélanger l’œuf et l’eau jusqu’à obtenir une pâte homogène. Saler et ajouter le curry. Mélangez légèrement. Laver et éplucher les légumes puis couper-les en fines tranches. Faire chauffer l’huile à 180° dans une friteuse ou une poêle wok. Plonger ensuite les légumes dans la pâte puis faites-les cuire dans l’huile 1 à 2 minutes selon l’épaisseur du légume, en le retournant à mi-cuisson pour qu’il dore de façon homogène. Sorter ensuite les légumes de l’huile et laisser-les s’égoutter sur du papier absorbant. Préparer ensuite la crème d’ail. Vous pourrez déguster le tout en plongeant vos légumes dans la sauce ! Eplucher et égermez l’ail. Faites blanchir l’ail, départ eau froide pour lui enlever de la force. Versez la crème dans une casserole et ajoutez les gousses d’ail et le thym. Assaisonnez légèrement. Laissez infuser l’ail à feu très doux en surveillant la réduction de la crème. Mixez la sauce. Vérifiez l’assaisonnement.

H ave you ever heard of the magic diving suit? Somewhere in the gili islands, there is a hydrophilic outfit that can turn anyone into a shark. it looks just like a harmless black wetsuit, and sometimes it hides in the locker room of diving clubs. As soon as you put it on and

you slip into the abyss, suddenly you’ll grow fins, gills will suffocate you, and teeth will appear by the thousands in your mouth. you’ve just turned into a shark, but don’t be scared! let yourself slide into the depths of the sea, and contemplate the quiet darkness; you will have no fear exploring the ocean and its mysteries. you will swim through the icy waves, your thoughts lost between dreams and reality, your body adapted to travel on end in this immensity. for supper, you will have plenty of fish to choose from, because you will be the king of the sea. like all sharks you will be shortsighted, and your sense of smell will guide you to your prey. Sharks are misanthropic and avoid humans as much as possible, but they can mistakenly cause terror to swimmers. At the end of your voyage if you are not caught in the net of a fisherman, you will perhaps return to your human form, keeping an obscure memory of this previous life like a bottomless void in your heart.

Avez-vous déjà entendu parler de la légendaire tenue de plongée ? Il existe quelque part aux îles Gili, une combinaison hydrophile qui change en requin celui qui l’enfile. Elle ressemble en tout point à un sombre habit marin tout à fait anodin, et elle se cache parfois dans les vestiaires des visiteurs de la mer. Dès qu’on la met et que l’on se glisse dans l’abysse, soudain, des nageoires nous poussent, des branchies nous étouffent, et des dents apparaissent par milliers. Vous êtes devenu un requin, mais n’en soyez pas effrayé ! Laissez-vous glisser dans les profondeurs de la mer, contemplez le calme et l’obscurité ; nulle peur vous n’aurez en explorant l’océan et ses mystères. Vous nagerez dans l’onde glacée, vos pensées perdues entre rêve et réalité, votre corps adapté à voyager dans cette immensité. Au souper du poisson vous aurez le choix, car de la mer ce sera vous le roi. Comme tous les squales vous serez myope, et votre olfaction vous guidera à vos proies. Les requins sont de grands misanthropes, mais par erreur des nageurs vous causerez l’effroi. à la fin de votre règne, si vous n’êtes pas pris au filet d’un pêcheur, peut-être reprendrez-vous forme humaine, gardant le souvenir de cette vie antérieure, tel un vide insondable dans votre cœur.

On gili Air- public boats leave to lombok starting at 7:30am. Meno to lombok, twice a day, at 8am and 3pm. And on gili T starting at 7am until 5pm. Sur Gili Air les bateaux publics partent vers Lombok à partir de 7h30. Sur Gili Meno, deux fois par jour à 8h et 15h. Sur Gili T à partir de 7h du matin jusqu'à 17 h.

wATERDrinking water in the gilis is imported from narmada in lombok. it is not advised to drink tap water. L'eau potable des îles Gilis est importée de Lombok à Narmada. Il est déconseillé de boire l'eau du robinet.

ElECTRiCiTySometimes there are power cuts on the 3 islands but the resorts have generators.Parfois il y a des coupures
