Enter plant data from approximately 4,000 additional stations sampled during the HFBS into the plant database

This project is to develop a new technology for conversion of cellulosic biomass into fuel ethanol with reducedenergy consumption and waste generation. It investigates biological detoxification of organic inhibitors for reusing process water as well as formation of biopolyesters on the organic residues left from ethanol fermentation.
Establish noninvasive chemical markers of heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) to allow for an assessment oflong-term HAA exposure through the diet to determine cancer risk.
Measure 14 brown dwarf stars with infra-red and near infrared photometry.
Using special advanced ultrasound techniques, we are trying to make a diagnosis of cancer in lymph nodes,which will help pathologists. We focus on sentinel lymph nodes of breast cancer so that diagnosis of lymph node metastasis will be improved in a non-invasive way.

This is a proposal for the continued support of the Pacific Regional Image Facility at University of Hawaii campusin Honolulu.

(1) Developing novel magnetic levitation with large ranges of motion, and fast and accurate position and forcecontrol, (2) developing interactive simulations with the maglev systems for surgical simulation and physical rehabilitation, (3) evaluating the realism and effectiveness of the interactive systems.
Collection of oil seeds from different tropical crops at different elevations and environments; extraction of oil;conversation of oil into biodiesel; and testing biodiesel emissions.
To continue collaboration with the Nearby Supernova Factory and the University of California in providingtelescope time for the SNIFS instrument to conduct supernova studies.
Field observations of shoaling surface gravity waves, sea level, and nearshore currents over fringing reefs will bemade to estimate the coastal-run that occurs during energetic, storm-generated wave events. The results will be compared to numerical models and used for emergency management purposes.
For the NSF-funded HOT Profiler mooring project, Bruce Howe will assist APL-UW in mooring design, logisticsassociated with deploying and recovering the mooring system at Station ALOHA north of Oahu, and data analysis,interpretation and publication.
Bruce Howe will continue as project PI after moving to UH. Tasks will include final work at Seahurst Observatory,engineering documentation of the system, a summary publication describing the system, the small mooring system being installed at the ALOHA Cabled Observatory ()ACO), and the NSF project final report.

Investigate the economic feasibility of coffee production in Hawaii and to develp software for growers to estimateproduction cost
The Maui County Aquaculture Extension Program acts as a conduit between aquaculture researchers andcommercial producers. Community outreach and public education are also integral components of the Maui County aquaculture extension program. These activities are focused on developing the aquaculture industry to become a significant contributor to Maui County's economy.
Maui Community College students will intern in various County of Maui departments and select not-for-profitsthrough the Cooperative Education Program and will be awarded credits and stipends.
The University of Hawaii's Dept of Natural Resources and Environmental management shall assist the Coral ReefLand-Based Pollution Steering Committee to coordinate the implementation of Hawaii's Local Action Strategy to Address Land-Based Pollution Threats to Coral Reef and provide technical assistance to stakeholders on coral reef protection issues.
To develop a community-based education and coastal monitoring program that inspires and facilitates communitystewardship of Mamala Bay and leads to improved vitality of Waikiki's coastal and marine environment. The project is also expected to enhance marine recreation opportunities and visitor experiences.

The evaluators will develop a draft evaluation design and data-collection instruments for feedback from theproject staff. These documents will be revised based on the feedback. The evaluators will provide copies of the data-collection instruments according to the evaluation design schedule, collect and analyze the data, and write the evaluation report.
A recruitment and retention personnel plan designed to build a sustained in-state capacity to produce additionalSpecial Education teachers eligible for initial teaching licensure each year by the College of Education, specificallyand deliberately prepared for career employment in the Hawaii Public Schools. Also, mentor program is used to help with retention of teachers.
Provide HIV/AIDS training for AIDS Service Organization case managers in Hawaii.
To provide subsidized family planning services for women and men, as well as additional training for staff withregards to family planning.

To assist employers and workers (ETF participants) by providing them with opportunities such as: business-specific training, upgrade training, new occupational skills, and management skills to improve long-term employability of Hawaii's people.
HawCC OCET will provide DLIR approved workforce training classes for incumbent workers.
Honolulu Community College will provide training for employers on Oahu who need to upgrade the skills of theircurrent workforce so they can meet the demands of the changing work environment.
To provide education and training opportunities for State of Hawaii Employment Training Fund eligible students.
Kauai Community College approves the scope of work as indicated in the proposal to become and an eligibletraining provider for the Employment Training Fund.
To provide staff and support services for tourism workforce coordination initiatives of the Tourism WorkforceDevelopment Master Plan for Implementation: 2007-2015 of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA).
