A special “Thank you” to Sharon Myers, As the Crow Flies and Deborah Swanger, Deborah Swanger Photography for their $100.00 contribution to the Mount Joy Chamber. The contribution was made In Memory of Sharon’s husband, Bob Myers. Anyone that dealt with Bob knows that he was a jokester and fun to be around. He was always sure to let me know that his “Myers” was the correct spelling and my “Meyers” was incorrect! Bob was always full of new ideas and one of them we can thank him for is “Mount Joy Minnie”. Speaking of Mount Joy Minnie.........

Mount Joy MinnieDon’t forget February 2, 2013, a very important day in the life of a ground hog named Mount Joy Minnie. Mark your calendars now to witness Mount Joy Minnie making her 5th Annual appearance, so you will be among the see and be seen. Watch for more info! Barb O’Neal, Nancy Shonk and Paul Gardner with the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce are pictured with Mount Joy Minnie and Bryan Jordan from 101 The Rose. Bryan announced later that day on the radio that he needs to

purchase a top hat if he is going to keep participating in Mount Joy Minnie!

Does Lehman Insurance Agency offer both commercial and personal insurance? Our agency is a full service agency and we can provide for almost all your needs per-sonal or commercial. We are also a member of the Keystone Insurers group which allows us to pool our resources and knowledge for even more consumer friendly options.

Do you have different companies that you work with for quotes? We work with an extensive list of financially stable and highly rated insurers such as: Goodville Mutual, Donegal Mutual, Travelers, Penn National, Progressive and Foremost just to name a few.

If someone was coming into you for a quote, what is the type of information that they should bring in with them? If you wish to obtain an accurate insurance quote the most important piece of the puzzle is to bring along a copy of your current policy. Most information we can read right off of the first several pages. Auto quotes always require a date of birth, drivers license number and usually a social which are not always listed on your current policy. Homeowners quotes will also require physical information about the property including square footage, prior claims and almost always a credit check.

When shopping for insurance coverage, let’s say home and auto, what do you feel are the most important things to look at? I think that the best way to approach “shop-ping” is to first have the agent quote exactly what you currently have so that a true price comparison can be made. The next step is to ask for recommendations and options from the agent that may adjust your pricing further. A good rule of thumb is to check your rates every 2 years as prices vary, life situations change and coverage in your contract can change as well. Make sure that you do check with a local independent insurance agent who has access to many different companies at one time. Finally ask your friends and neighbors what agency or company they have had rewarding experiences with. We love referrals from our current customers!

What are your hours at Lehman Insurance Agency Inc.? Mount Joy office hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9-2, Tuesday from 8:30 until 4:45. Thursday’s, evenings and weekends are by appointment only at this time. What made you decide to open a consignment shop in Mount Joy? I have always loved Consignment shops and have bought & resold items either online (eBay) or at flea markets. I had a special room in my house that I stored all of my “treasures” in. It eventually started to spill into and take over the living room, so I decided to start looking for a store front! I have al-ways dreamed of owning my own business and I thought now would be the perfect time! I literally researched 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week and visited many places to find that special one. I just love the way Mount Joy looks and feels. I love how close all of the businesses and business owners are and how the local organizations come together to help the small businesses in every aspect. I am very glad to be part of Mount Joy and to be a part of some great organizations! I look forward to meeting each and everyone of you!

Will you explain how your shop, Bonafide Boutique Consignment, works? We offer a 90 day consignment, where the items the consignor brings in will be put up for sale. The consignor will receive 40% of whatever their items sell for. We also accept donations at any time. You can view a more in depth “How To Consign” on our website @ www.bonafideboutique.com.

What types of items do you offer for sale? We sell gently used and new children’s, juniors, women’s, men’s clothing and accessories, shoes, jewelry, purses/handbags, baby equipment and toys. Do you have any weekly/monthly special that you offer? Thrifty Thursdays have just begun here at Bonafide Boutique Consignment! Every Thursday (excluding holidays) there will be a different special/discount in-store only. The specials will be posted on our Facebook page and also displayed on our Sandwich Board out front of the store. We also participate in Main Street Mount Joy’s 4th Friday Celebration. We stay open until 8pm on 4th Fridays and always offer a special or discount. If you are interested in receiving our monthly newsletter and coupons, please contact us today!

What all is involved in the safety aspects of owning a tattoo studio? The most important thing to me is sanitation for my clients. Auto-claving and using mostly disposable instru-ments insures their safety. I am certified in blood borne pathogens, first aid and CPR.

How does a client decide on a tattoo? Most people come in with an idea of what they want. I can design one with them or work from a picture they bring in.

Why did you decide to become a tattoo artist and open your own studio? I love art and tattooing. I wanted my own studio be-cause I would like to change peoples perspectives on tattoo studios. I want to be more about art and the meaning behind them and less about shock factor.

Do you have regular studio hours? To receive a tattoo you must make an appoint-ment. Appointments can be made for evenings and weekends. Please feel free to drop in and check us out when we are in!

$Now that 2012 is drawing to a close, you may want

to review the progress you’ve made this past year in many areas of your life — including your financial situation. By going over your investment portfolio and other key areas related to your finances, you can learn what moves you may need to make in 2013 to stay on track toward your important objectives, such as college for your children, a comfortable retirement and the ability to leave the type of legacy you desire.

To get a clear picture of where you are, consider asking yourself these questions:• Am I taking on too much risk? Although 2012 has

generally been a pretty good year for investors, we’ve certainly seen periods of considerable volatility. During these times, did you find yourself constantly fretting about big drops in your portfolio value? In fact, have you consistently experienced this type of worry throughout your years as an investor? If so, you might be taking on too much risk for your individual risk tolerance. Review your holdings to determine if you can lower your risk level without jeopardizing your overall investment strategy.

• Am I investing too conservatively? Just as you can take on too much investment risk, you can also go to the other extreme by investing too conservatively. If your portfolio contains a preponderance of investments that offer significant preservation of principal but very little in the way of growth potential, you may be endangering your chances of accumulating the resources you’ll need to achieve your long-term goals.

• Am I contributing as much as I can afford to my retirement plans? If you have access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan, such as a 401(k), 403(b) or 457(b), consider yourself fortunate. Your plan has the potential to grow on a tax-deferred basis, and you typically contribute pre-tax dollars — the more you put in, the lower your annual taxable income. Plus, your employer may match part of your contributions. So if you’ve been under-funding your retirement plan,

ratchet up your funding in 2013. At the same time, you may still be eligible to contribute to an IRA; if so, try to “max out” on it. A traditional IRA grows tax deferred while a Roth IRA can grow tax free, provided you meet certain conditions.

• Am I adequately protecting my income — and my family? Over time, you’ll experience many changes in your life — marriage, children, new job, new home, etc. Most, if not all, of these changes will require you to make sure you have adequate life insurance in place to help guard your family’s future, should anything happen to you. Furthermore, to help replace your income should you become disabled, you may well need to purchase an adequate amount of disability income insurance.

Many state residents gathered [November 11] at ceremonies across the commonwealth to honor the sacrifices and service of our nation’s veterans. During the 2011-12 legislative session, I supported passage of a number of new laws intended to help those who have served our nation, as well as those who are currently deployed.

One of the most important measures signed into law this year created the Veterans Trust Fund. This program will supplement state appropriations for veterans programs, offering another avenue to enhance existing programs, services and benefits our state already offers. Because the program would be funded by voluntary contributions, the new law will help veterans without asking taxpayers to contribute significant new funding.

I also cosponsored legislation that will help veteran-owned small businesses compete for state contracts. The law sets a statewide annual goal of at least three percent in state contracts awarded. The measure also led the Department of General Services to expand its Small Diverse Business Program – which currently assists small businesses owned by women or minorities – to include veteran-owned small businesses.

In addition to these measures to support our veterans, legislators also created new laws to help current service members and their families. Perhaps the most significant new law helps make education more accessible to children of military families and make school transfers and transitions more uniform and less stressful. I also supported passage of a bill that makes it easier for deployed soldiers to transfer child custody during a deployment and to testify remotely if a court proceeding is held while the soldier is deployed.

A law passed in 2011 allows all Pennsylvania hunting license-issuing agents to sell reduced-fee hunting licenses for members of the U.S. Armed Forces and PA National Guard. Under the previous law, qualified members of the military could only receive the $1 hunting licenses through a county treasurer or the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The expanded sales law made these licenses more accessible to members of our military.

To protect the voting rights of service members and make absentee voting more convenient for members of the military, I cosponsored a new law that simplifies and provides uniformity to the registration and absentee ballot process for uniformed service voters and overseas civilian voters for all elections within the commonwealth.

While citizens often express our appreciation for our veterans on holidays such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day, I believe it is important to carry this sentiment forward throughout the year. We are a stronger nation because of their service, and I urge local residents to seek out our nation’s heroes to voice our thanks for the sacrifices they have made to keep our nation safe and free.
