“Ghost”    is  a  collection  of    works  by  

photographers  Keith  Carter  and  Annabella  Helman.  These  images  are  centered  around  the  use  of  depth  of  field  and  the  use  of  black  and  white  to  instill  a  haunting  feeling  in  the  viewer.  Keith  Carter,  being  from  Texas,  uses  the  southern  horror  style  within  his  work  while  Annabella  Helman  is  from  midwest  Indiana.  The  different  landscapes  may  provoke  different  feelings  although  both  are  equally  as  chilling.  Be  warned,  it  would  be  ill-­‐advised  to  look  at  these  photographs  just  before  you  fall  asleep.  They  have  been  known  to  cause…n

Keith  Carter    is  a  self-­‐taught  American  photographer  

born  and  raised  in  Beaumont,  Texas  in  the  1950s.  As  a  child,  he  grew  up  with  his  single  mother,  a  child  portrait  photographer.  While  watching  his  mother,  he  was  inspired  to  take  photographs  of  his  own,  playing  with  light  and  tonal  range.  He  tried  to  emulate  the  feelings  he  got  from  famous  photographers  in  his  own  prints,  using  art  books  lent  to  him  by  a  local  sculptor.  Now  a  husband  and  professor  at  Lamar  University  in  Texas,  he  uses  his  hometown  as  his  subject  of  his  photographs.    

He  plays  with  the  depth  of  field  by  intense  blurring  of  the  photo  besides  the  subject  in  focus,  providing  a  mystical  and  creepy  feeling  when  looking  at  his  photographs.  He  tends  to  photograph  people,  especially  children,  and  animals.  His  work  is  hung  in  multiple  galleries  all  around  the  world  for  people  to  enjoy.  For  a  self-­‐taught  artist  with  no  formal  training,  Keith  Carter  has  sure  touched  the  lives  of  many  through  his  work.
