KABUL - An apparent suicide attack close to a government ministry in the Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday killed at least seven people and wounded more than 15 as staff were leaving the office in the evening rush hour, officials said.The attack was the latest in a seemingly unending series of blasts against civil-ian targets in Kabul and other major cities including Jalalabad, which has seen three major attacks in the past two weeks alone.
SHEBIRGHAN - Amid grow-ing protests in the north and north-eastern provinces, which started almost two weeks ago, protestors who are primarily Junbish-i-Milli Islami Afghani-stan supporters have threat-ened to close the highway that leads from Kabul to the north-ern provinces if their demands are not met.The demonstrations broke out following the arrest two weeks ago of Nizamuddin Qaisari, the police chief of Qaisar district in Faryab. The protestors are also supporters of Junbish, which is led by exiled First Vice Presi-dent Gen. Abdul Rashid Dos-tum.
The supporters have however welcomed news of ongoing talks between the Presidential Palace (ARG) and Dostum, aimed at paving the way for him to return home.

JALALABAD/ASADABAD - Two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and five Tali-ban militants have been killed in separate incident of violence in eastern Laghman and Kunar provinces, officials said on Sun-day.Sherin Agha Faqiri, spokes-man for the ANA’s 201th Selab Military Corps, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the militants coordinately stormed a security check-post in Alishang district of Laghman late on Sunday night.However, the security forces suf-fered no casualties in the attack that left five Taliban militants dead and another two wounded, he said.Elsewhere, two ANA soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb-ing in Narai district of Kunar province, police spokesman Faridullah Dehqan told Pajh-wok. FARAH CITY/ CHARIKAR - Unidentified gunmen shot dead a prayer leader and an Afghan Na-tional Army (ANA) official hour apart in western Farah province, an official said Sunday.Nasir Mehri, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the imam, Abdul Hameed, was gunned down in the 5th po-lice district of Farah City on Sat-urday.He said Hameed served as prayer leaders at the provincial police headquarters.Elsewhere, gunmen shot dead an ANA official Abdul Ali in the 3rd police district of Farah City in front of his house.The Taliban insurgents have claimed responsibility for Abdul Ali’s assassination.Separately, Naveedullah, 22, al-legedly committed suicide in Ja-balSaraj district of central Parwan province. KABUL - Kunduz police chief said that the strike was conducted in Chardara district of Kunduz province on Saturday evening.At least 36 insurgents were killed during an Afghan se-curity forces’ airstrike in northern Kunduz province on Saturday, Kunduz police said Sunday.At least ten others were wounded in the strike, police added. JALALABAD - Unknown gunmen have set on fire a middle school in the Batikot district of eastern Nan-garhar province, an official said on Sunday.AttaullahKhogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pa-jhwok Afghan News unidentified gunmen torched the Captan Baba Middle School in the Krabawai locality of the district on Saturday night.He said that all textbooks, classrooms and documents were burnt.
