    GGOO (or GO for short) stands for Giant Gurus of the Odyssey. Alluding to mythical gures,

    GGOO represents todays young social entrepreneurs, who lead social changes by taking innovativeapproaches to the most pressing social problems.

    GGOOs leaders (affectionately called GO-ers) are proactive, innovative and motivated youths aroundthe world with a passion to lead and bring about change in their local communities through the power ofsocial entrepreneurship. We refer to such high-potential individuals as micropreneurs leading socialinnovations in a macro scale.

    Who are we?GGOO is an international student-run platform dedicated to not only students in universities and collegesbut also all young social entrepreneurs or micropreneurs in other entities around the world.

    By providing a reliable support system of lecture series, mentoring programs, and competitions, weencourage young leaders to apply their acquired invaluable insights to tackle real world problems as they runsocial entrepreneurial ventures, such as poverty, illiteracy, diseases, environmental pollution, and climatechange.

    GGOOs young leaders are fostered, trained and inspired to initiate their own ideas, map out their actionplans and implement their projects that involve various stakeholders in the society such as: Non-protorganizations (NGO), Governmental organizations (GO), Academia (Universities, Colleges and schools),and Companies. Its not about charity; GGOO is all about investing into the communities where weempower young leaders and talents with drive and ability to make a giant leap in leading social innovations.

    GGOOs members connect with one another via projects, networking eventsand parties as a family, each one is called a GOer who has a commoninterest of sharing, supporting, singing, dancing, being open minded andsocial entrepreneurial spirit. GOers end their emails with GOerly yours!and a formal meeting by shaking hands and hugging each other.

    GGOO cooperates with corporate partners to provide its members with valuable internship andworking opportunities.

    * e structure of BOM is exible for all levels of management (Global, National, Local and Initiativelevel)

    * Important Note: BOM (which includes President (Co-Presidents), Founding members and (Executive)Directors) is the most powerful decision-making body of the entire organization and votes to passstrategies and policies. President is the representative of the whole organization supervising all ExecutiveDirectors in implementing tasks. Global President Position is rotated among different member countryleaders. Lower-raking executives and staffmembers are appointed by Executive Directors to best controland carry out their functional tasks

    SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

    IN GGOOS VIEWPOINT

    1. What is social entrepreneurship & social entrepreneur?

    Social entrepreneurship, as the combined concept from social and entrepreneurship, is a legally operatingentity with:

    Ultimate purpose: To bring benet to society through providing a solution for social issues. is partdetermines the industries social enterprises would involve in.

    Social issue: Is dened as a problem affecting human life and interaction. Example: disabilityunemployment, environment protection, education, etc.

    Operating method: Assuring the nancially sustainable operation in the long-term. is part

    determines the nance and accounting activities.

    Social entrepreneur is who founds and maintains social enterprise from the initiation to stand-alone phase.GGOO aims to motivate, train and guide students to become from idea incubators (with only good idea, noexperience, limited skills), to a social pre-entrepreneur (with plausible idea, theoretical experience, broadskills), and nally to complete social entrepreneur (with executed idea, practical experience, comprehensiveskills).

    2. Categories of social entrepreneurship initiatives under GGOOs set platform?

    ere are 3 types of social entrepreneurship initiatives under GGOOs platform (the basic form ofentrepreneurship here is dened as project):

    Social responsible enterprise: a wholly standalone enterprise with founding members, determiningto provide solution to social issues through products/services, and is nancially sustainable in longterm. is is the most original type, by nature, of social entrepreneurship.

    Example: Donkey Bakery in Vietnam is a newly founded social enterprise which employs and train cakemaking skills to many sense impaired employees. ey produce and sell cakes of various types to theircustomers (Website: http://donkeybakery.com)

    Business enterprise executing CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility): a socially contributingproject under the management of a currently operating corporate.

    Example: Danone (a French milk company) open a high-nutrition milk factory in India, using localingredients and labors, distributing products to local child through Grameen (India NGOs). (Website:http://www.grameenfoundation.org)

    Philanthropy organization: a non-prot organization aims to support human needs, with majornancial supply from donation or grants.

    Example: AlManarah is a social enterprise dedicated to Israeli Arab blind and visually impaired people.By fostering social awareness through outreach and advocacy, they seek to change the traditional

    stereotypes and social stigmas common in Arab society toward the blind. AlManarahs activities includean extensive schedule of workshops and seminars, the distribution of relevant educational materials,leadership development, and self-help groups of Arab blind (and their parents, if relevant). In addition tooutreach and support, its colleagues advocate through the Israeli court system to ensure equal access andthe protection of inalienable rights. (Website: http://www.almanarah.org )

    3. What qualities does a leader need to have to become a social entrepreneurship?

    Social spirit: e mindset of permanent concerning and longing for social issue solutions. It is therst and foremost quality of a social entrepreneur, sustaining passion and social responsibility for

    GGOO-er.

    Leadership:e ability of planning and motivating a group of people follow common purposes.

    Social networking: e ability to effectively communicate, deliver message and establish usefulrelationship network.

    Critical thinking: e ability to question and rectify the righteousness of received information.

    Fundraising: e ability to gain nancial and non-nancial support through mutual trust,comprehensive information, and proven capability.

    Team working: e ability to effectively share ideas, support teammates and timely completeassignment.

    Besides, GGOO also prefers individuals who have skills in nancial management, projectmanagement or project planning.

    GGOOs Annual Grand Pro ect

    GGOO wants to create a new generation of youth who have a great passion for social entrepreneurship and

    have innovative venture ideas. e main annual grand project that we intend to implement after GGOOsofficial launch in the late of 2012 is the Vietnam's Social Entrepreneurs Empowerment & DevelopmentProgram (VSEED).

    rough workshops and open discussions, GGOO hopes to transfer knowledge, passion, inspiration andskills to the mindset of other young future leaders. Our participants will come from a variety of universitiesin Vietnam with different bases of knowledge and experience. ese are group of people who may havepotential impact on social entrepreneurship development in Vietnam in long term. We do not only organizeworkshops, we include eld visit to current social enterprises to let the audiences understand how a realsocial enterprise works.

    GGOO will also help interested students to match between theory and practice by the social venturecompetition at the end of the program. We will provide them with fundamental resources, coaching andmentoring workshops and eldtrips to help them realize their dreams through this venture competition.

    After the Vietnam's Social Entrepreneurs Empowerment & Development Program, GGOO will organize abirthday party to connect GOers together and improve the GGOOs network. We also intend to run anelection when summer begins to raise a new Board of Management who will continue GGOOs projectsand fulll GGOOs missions in the future.

    MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES

    GGOO is divided into 3 divisions: GGOO Global, GGOO National and GGOO Local, each of

    which has a separate management committee led by a President or Chairperson.

    1. GGOOs Membership Acquisition

    Interested young leaders are encouraged to contact us regarding membership acquisition. Any talented personmay apply directly to GGOO to be granted a leadership position at Global, National or Local Level bysending his/her CV and a cover letter to this email address: [email protected]* Requests may be made at any time (of year).

    A- How to join the Global Board of Management (G-BOM)?

    * Note: GGOO Global Board of Management (G-BOM) is the highest management body of GGOOworldwide currently includes: (Permanent) Founding members (Founding President, FoundingDirectors), Presidents or Co-Presidents, Executive Directors and Deputy Directors (Brands,Communications, PR, ICT, Finance, Human resources, Project Management, Business Development,etc)

    (a) Founding a new country chapter of GGOO by applying to G-BOM selection process at anytime. Founder, Co-founders and National President or Directors in a country chapter willautomatically join G-BOM as official members with a limited number of maximum 2 representatives

    selected by each National Management Board.

    (b) Running an election of global leadership position: e management leadership position isdecided between G-BOM members by voting. People who get majority of the votes of total membersare selected to become the leaders for a new management term of office. (Usually a term of presidencyor other leadership position last for at most 1 year)

    B- How to join a National Board of Management (N-BOM)?

    (a) Setting up a totally new National BOM of GGOO: For a non-member country, a young talentedleader may apply for a Founder position by going through assessment processes including CVscreening, application forms, qualication tests and interviews.

    (b)At most 2 representatives selected by a Local Board of management automatically join as NationalBoard Members who jointly make decision on strategic policies of the whole national chapter.

    (c) Running a national election: For a member country, a young talented leader who is an activemember of N-BOM may apply for a leadership position in vacancy.

    C- How to join a Local Board of Management (L-BOM)?

    (a) Setting up a new Local Chapterunder guidance and selection of GGOO N-BOM in that country.An L-BOM must be based in a university or college, called GGOO followed by e name ofuniversity (e.g. GGOO NUS)

    (b) Project Manager of an initiative under GGOO recognition joins local chapter as an L-BOMmember who jointly makes decision on management policies.

    (c) L-BOM members run election to acquire a new term of presidency and other leadership positionon a regular basis (Maximum 1 year)

    2. GGOOs Project Leadership Acquisition

    A- How to form a local project team in each country (under the management of theL-BOM)?

    (a) Forming an independent team to run a social entrepreneurship initiative:

    If you are ready to start up a brand new initiative of social entrepreneurship, feel free to reach us byapplying for a project leadership position recognized globally by GGOO. We will have you experienceda thorough selection process and consult with you about how to run a social entrepreneurship initiativesuccessfully. Once you are selected as Project Manager/ Program Director, you are recognized as aGGOO member globally and can start forming/recruiting your own team members by yourself. Youmay join various networking, training, coaching and mentoring programs designed by us as well asworldwide movements of international competitions, scholarship and conference information shared byour members.

    (b) Affiliate your own set initiatives/projects/organizations with GGOO:

    If you already have been working in a set project, your project and yourself are still able to join GGOOnetwork and enjoy benet from our global community and contribution certications.

    Any single enrolled student / graduate / and other young leaders in universities and other organizationsor projects may apply to attain an international recognized membership and granted with a leadershipposition of Project Manager/Program Director of GGOO.
