The Country Shop Pub derives from a time insmall rural communities where the shopkeeperwould double as a publican.

A side of the shop would be given over to the pubfurnished with trestle tables and stools. The over alllook would be rustic, rough and ready.

Decoration would be provided by the open roofbeams and the white washed walls and of course theopen fireplace.

The colour would be supplied by the groceries, stacked to the ceiling all about the premises.

Pictured is "the Keg" in Hamilton in Canada. Astunning Example of originality, eclectically designedyet with a continuity of theme.

The style consists of old counters and displaycabinets, in which old shop bricabrac can bedisplayed. This if done properly, can become anintegral part of the theme of the country shop pub.Setting up continuity and a sense of originality.

The Style derives from the traditional stone andthatch roofed cottages of Ireland.

These were rustic houses, built of local quarriedstone, the walls were roughly plastered and whitewashed, with flagged floors and open rafters in theceiling.

Furniture consisted of wooden benches, settle-seatsand trestle tables, usually arranged around a largeopen fireplace, in which a kettle would constantly beon the boil.

In essence the look is very simple anduncomplicated, with colour added from the stacks ofbricabrac (pots and crockery, horse brasses etc.)strewn on shelves proliferated throughout theestablishment.

Quintessentially the most ornate and finelycrafted of pubs. The Victorian bar made use ofthe finest craftsmen and materials, to turn outsome of the most outstanding interiors. Some ofwhich remain unchanged to this very day.

The Victorian bar reminicent of Grecian temples, withhandcarved pediments and turned columns, sportingrich finely detailed foliation. Some of these unitswould be three meters in height.

This style complimented by the use of decorativeglass, carved screens, bevelled gilt edged mirrors, brass and mosaics makes the Victorian Bar a lavishaffair.

The Snug, first seen in the Victorian Bar, originallyused so ladies could sit and have tea unperturbed bythe male customers.

An important element in any authentic Irish Pubis the bric-a-brac and memorabilia that addsdetail to the character and atmosphere.

It comes in many forms often old brewery relatedarticles to prints and postcards to various bits offurniture and even old farm implements like ploughsand donkey carts.

We can with the aid of our bric-a-brac specialistsattain almost any article of memorabilia, all originalnot reproduction.

BRIC-A-BRACBric-a-brac can be used to personalise your pub forexample one could use a literary theme celebratingthe great writers such as Joyce or Yeats. Anothercould be a sporting theme or music. There is awealth to chose from.

The final look is one in which you would think you justwalked in off a Dublin street to a fine old Irish Pub.
