 particular, the various schools of thought that have dominated IPE and their relative

utility.

2.  Understand the relationship between the states and the markets, the ways they

3.  Analyze theories of IPE and their significance to issues in IPE.

understanding of how IPE can be distinguished from other disciplines of social

sciences (C4, P4, A3).

13.  Synopsis

This course addresses ways in which economic forces alter the international distribution

of political power and resources and ways political power change the international

distribution of wealth. In this respect, the course applies political-economy theories to the

international arena for the purpose of exposing students to the core and current issues that

affect the international political economy (IPE). The course deals with IPE ideologies and

 perspectives, IPE structures, including production, trade, finance and knowledge-

technology and contemporary market-state tensions (regionalism, democratization,

economic transition/reform, development). Finally selected issues from vast area of topicsin IPE will be discussed including issues on development and democratization and the

environmental issues.

Coursework (Individual Assignment 20%, Mid Semester Exam 20% and Presentation

thoughts in various aspects of the states, non-state

actors and international organizations. In particular,

the programme is aimed at enabling the graduates to

 participate in international affairs management in

areas of diplomacy, strategic studies, internationalnegotiation and international relations, seeking their

resolution as effective CEOs.

write an individual assignment for this course based on the topics given earlier by courseinstructor. Students’ assignment must adhere to the format included in this instruction.

Assignment must be submitted to the course instructor on or before the due date which is on the

third meeting.

Assignment Format

1. Topics for individual assignment will be given by respective lecturer during the first

meeting.

2. Write your student number (right top corner) and course name and code (left top corner) onevery page.

3. Use A4 size paper.

4. A 4-cm margin should be on one side of each page for markers to write comments. A left

or right margin is acceptable. If there is no margin there will be minimal comments.

5. Write on one side of each page and staple all pages together. It is preferred that the top left

corner is stapled only.

6. Number all pages.
