Rules and Regulations for Gas Canister locations
Gas Canisters Outside Building:
Gas Cylinders that is installed on the outside of t he building must apply to the following rules:
• Cylinders may not be closer than 1m from any opening like doors and windows.
• Cylinders must be a minimum of 2m away from a open drain Examp: Gully.
Cylinders that are installed against a boundary wal l:
• The wall must be a minimum of 1.8m high and 9”/220mm thick. Cylinders that are installed next to a boundary wal l that isn’t a Firewall:
• The cylinders must be a minimum distance of 1m from wall keeping in mind all the other specification.
Gas Canisters Inside building: Always install above ground level never below: Cellars, Basements, Etc Do not install above cooking or heating appliance. Do not install in larders, pantries or other places for storing food. Ensure adequate ventilation to outside air. No closer then 300mm to gas stove.

Where gas cylinders are placed in a cupboard: Cupboard doors shall be well ventilated eg: Lattice door or inserts. No electrical connections or plug points shall be allowed in the same section as the gas cylinder. The cupboard shall be sealed to ensure that no gas can leak from one section of the cupboard to another section Rules and Regulations as Per SANS 10087-1:2008. Kind regards Reginald Gillespie (Reggie)
