Getting the idea: To motivate the students to think about the importance of the senses, they close their eyes and put their hands on their ears.

They describe how they feel. And they answer the question: Why do we need our five senses?

What can we do with our five senses? At this moment the teacher and the students recall the organs we use to perceive: Eyes, nose, skin, tongue, ears. The teacher shows flashcards to teach the names of the organs we use or write them on the board.

We can present the following worksheet on the Smart board and let a student match the word with the picture.

2nd Lesson: SightDiscuss with students that we see with our eyes pictures: colours, light shape and size.

Show the students the book Brown Bear, Brown bear what do you See? By B.Martin

Every student represents a different animal with a band in his head, when it is his turn

he reads his part: “I see a red bird looking at me”.

(CEIP. Daniel

Vázquez Díaz students

getting involved in the

story telling “Brown

Bear, what do you

see?”)

Try to do the same reading with the eyes closed. Discuss why it was difficult.

In Arts and Crafts students make a little book on the five senses.

3rd lesson: HearingThe teacher goes behind a desk so the student cannot see what she is doing. She rings a

bell and asks the students to guess what she did. They guess easily and then she writes a

note. Without hearing it is hard to learn about the world. None of the students know

what the teacher is doing.

Activity:To discover that the sounds that we hear are vibrations that travel in the air.

Students make phones with yogurts and strings.

Activity:They do the next page of their book in the subject of Arts and Crafts.

Lesson 4 TouchingShow students how skin tells us about the world: teaching the words wet and dry, hot

and cold and rough and smooth:

Lesson 4:TasteWe show the students the parts of a tongue, in which we can see the four flavours:

sweet, sour, salty and bitter.

Students discuss what their favourite food is and say what its flavour is.

Activity In their notebook they write the four flavours. They try water mixed with sugar (sweet),

salt (salty), lemon (sour), and coffee (bitter).

They must classify the flavours and try to guess what they had.

The students draw four plates and their food matching with

the four flavours.

Lesson plan 5: SmellThe teacher explains that the organ we use for smelling is the nose and it is connected to

the brain and tells us what smells nice or bad.

Students discuss when it is important this sense and when it can save us from danger.

For example, in if there is smoke or gas in a house.

In this page of the book students can sprinkle perfume in the flower and they can

sprinkle an orange drink mix powder on the orange.

Evaluation of the Didactic Unit:The testing is made by the four skills. It is important to check if they have acquired the

content through listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The testing must be motivating, using the songs that they already heard in class. Even

the worksheet they use in the test must be familiar to them.

Observation is key in first cycle. The teacher can have a register of the students that

show some difficulty in reading, writing, speaking or understanding the new concepts.
