Using Simfund EnterpriseDatasetsAt the top right corner of the screen, you will find a drop down list with the different datasets available to you, including Global Funds and US Mutual Funds datasets. The selection of the dataset here will dictate the filter options, grouping items and data points available in the Analysis grid, the types of charts and graphs available in the Report Gallery, as well as the Workbooks, you can access and Universes that can be used in your analysis.

The Global dataset includes European, Asian, Cross-border and Latin American funds as well as US Mutual Funds and allows you to research the fund universe in a truly global lens, and explore over 10 years of historical data in different currency types.

The US Mutual Fund dataset includes many US-specific mutual fund data points that are not available for investments outside the US, such as over 20 years of asset and flow history, more detailed expense data and detailed expense data and historical data.

WorkbooksReports, charts, graphs and queries can be saved into shareable Simfund Enterprise files called Workbooks. Each query or report is saved as a tab, or worksheet, in the Workbook and can be saved with a name and description. Workbooks can be shared by their creators across your entire firm, with individuals at your firm or with the Strategic Insight support team. You can access all the Workbooks available to you on this page, including those you created and saved yourself, as well as those that have been shared with you.

Choose your Workbook View from the dropdown list in the top right corner of the left panel to view in different ways.

1. ‘My Folders’ View allows you to create your own folders to group and categorize your own workbooks as well as those shared with you

2. ‘Access Type’ View separates Workbooks into folders by who created them:

• Workbooks you created • Publically shared Workbooks

created by Strategic Insight • Company Workbooks that are

shared across your entire firm • Workbooks shared with you from

other individuals at your firm

3. The ‘Last Accessed’ View lists the Workbooks you have recently viewed or worked on, and the ‘Created Date’ View allows you to review Workbooks based on when they were created, either by you or by the person who shared the Workbook with you.

To export your work, use the Export button in the Smart Toolbar, just below the navigation links at the top of the screen, and choose tabular export to Excel, Word or PDF for an entire Workbook or for an individual worksheet. Another feature available in the Smart Toolbar is the Active Universe, which allows you to apply a Universe filter to the entire Workbook. (See below for more on creating, saving and applying Universes.)

Strategic Insight also provides public Workbooks created by our researchers and analysts to answer some of the most common business questions, as companions to our published research and our curated Factsheets.

To open a Workbook to explore more deeply or to modify it, click on the name of the worksheet to open it in the Analysis grid interface (see more about how to use the Analysis grid below).

Analysis Grid Simfund Enterprise’s new user friendly, dynamic Analysis grid will be familiar to previous Simfund Desktop users. A number of enhancements make exploring the data simpler directly from the grid. Clickable data points, displayed in blue, allow intuitive drilling down to more detailed perspective on your queries. Interactive Grid functionality includes the ability to click a Column heading to sort by that Column, add a row filter to further refine your analysis, and drag and drop column headings to re-order columns, and a new feature that allows drag and drop of grouping items through the Grid option called Grouping Panel. The interactive Smart Toolbar allows easy query adjustments: ability to change Grouping level, sort Columns and Grid display options from drop down lists with one click.

Choose your View [see FIGURE 2 above] from the drop down list based on the type of research you wish to do.

The available US Funds Dataset offers the following views:

• Fund View: contains all Mutual Fund and ETF data at the Share Class level with more than $18 trillion in AUM tracked and over 20 years of asset history.

• Defined Contribution View: includes fund-level DC plan assets for mutual funds and CITs, DC investment data for mutual funds and collective trusts and is viewable at the fund level with plan and recordkeeper details available. The DC View includes 3+ years of historical data for tracking trends in product development and plan menu design.

• Channel View*: offers assets and flows by distribution Channel and tracks over $9.5 trillion of intermediary-sold assets by channel with 5 years of monthly history.

• Distributor View*: provides assets and flows by fund by 900 Distributors and tracks over $9 trillion of intermediary-sold assets with 5 years of monthly history.

Available Views in the Global Funds dataset include:

• Fund View: contains all available global fund data at the Share Class level with more than $30 trillion tracked, and over 10 years of asset history.

• Consortium View*: with long-term cross-border assets of nearly $4 trillion globally, this view integrates self-reported data from 45 managers to provide a granular breakdown by country of origin for 56% of this universe ($1.9 trillion in assets, excluding ETFs).

Apply a Universe without opening the full Report Configuration window by choosing from the Active Universe drop down list in the Smart Toolbar. (See more about how to create, save and apply Universes below.)

Open the detailed Report Configuration window to customize your Analysis grid to create your own ad-hoc report by clicking in the Smart Toolbar. The Report Configuration window is divided into seven tabs, of which only Grouping Item is strictly required.

• Quick Filter: Includes the most common filtering criteria, based on the View you are in. Use Filters to determine the specific group of funds or market segment that you want to analyze.

• Advanced Filter: Allows filtering by all available criteria, including multiple levels with and/or logic capabilities, nesting, and new ability to set column-specific select conditions.

• Grouping Items: Determines the level of aggregation in your query.

• Column Items: Choose from thousands of available data items to populate the Columns in your query.

• Sort order: Define the Column item or multi-level Sorting by which to return your query results (Single level Sorting can also be done from the Smart Toolbar).

• Row Filter: Apply filters to rows after the data has been aggregated such as displaying only companies with greater than $X billion in assets or ranked in top 10 (also can be done in the Analysis Grid by typing your filter criteria into the field directly below the Column Item Name).

• Format options: Add up to two lines of Titles for your query and choose to include SQL plan in any exports.

Similarly to the Workbooks functionality, export your Analysis grid by clicking the Export button in the Smart Toolbar, just below the navigation links at the top of the screen, and choose tabular export to Excel, Word or PDF for an entire Workbook or for an individual worksheet.

Save your work by clicking the Save button in the Smart Toolbar. Start a new Workbook or choose the Workbook you wish to add the query to by typing or choosing the Workbook name from the Workbook drop down menu, and then enter the name for the worksheet in the Report Name field. To make this query your default query, check the ‘Default

Report’ box. If you wish to include a detailed Description, you can enter it in the Description field. Then click the ‘Ok’ button to save.

Factsheets New Simfund Enterprise Factsheets curate dozens of queries to answer your top business questions on US and Global Managers as well as US Morningstar Categories. Find these Factsheets through links in the Analysis grid when your query is grouped by Manager Name or Morningstar Category in the US Mutual Fund dataset, and when grouped by Manager Name in the Global Funds dataset. Click the printer icon at the top right corner of the screen to print any Factsheet in PDF format for easy sharing.

Report Gallery Interactive charts and graphs allow dynamic adjustments to relevant configuration options, including time periods and currency (module-specific). To view the underlying data in the Analysis grid, click the Analyze button from the Smart Toolbar. Export your charts or graphs by clicking the Export button in the Smart Toolbar.

Click the Save button in the Smart Toolbar to save your reports and either start a new Workbook or choose the Workbook you wish to save the report into by typing or choosing the Workbook name from the Workbook drop down menu, and then enter the name for the worksheet in the ‘Report

Name field. If you wish to include a detailed Description for this report, enter it in the Description field. Then click the ‘Ok’ button to save.

Simfund Filing Integration One-click access to prospectuses including Latest Prospectus, Prospectus Changes, and New Funds documents through Grid-integrated links is available when working in the US Mutual Fund dataset and grouped by

Manager Name or Fund Name.

Universes Create and save Universe for your Workbooks, queries, charts and graphs. Saved Universes can be shared with other individual users or across your entire firm to manage filtering criteria and ensure consistent definitions of different worldviews across the firm.

Universes are created inside the Advanced Filter tab in the Report Configuration window of the Analysis grid. In the Advanced Filter tab, define the criteria you want for your Universe and click the Save Universe link at the bottom of the Selected Filter box. Enter the name you wish for your Universe and click Save to add the Universe to your saved Universes list.

Load a Ticker or CUSIP list by choosing a Ticker or CUSIP field in the Advanced Filter tab of the Report Configuration window and upload a saved Excel file with the list of Tickers or CUSIPs in Column A, starting in Row 1. After uploading the file, you will see the list in the right side box of the window. Click the Ok button to apply the list as your Advanced Filter condition, and then save as a Universe following the steps above. Saving a list of Tickers or CUSIPs as a Universe allows you to save time researching a standard list of benchmarks or your own funds.

Universes can be applied at several levels in Simfund Enterprise to allow you the most flexibility for your projects. To apply a saved Universe to:

• Your entire Workbook: use the Active Universe drop down list in the Smart Toolbar in the Workbooks page.

• Your Report: use the Active Universe drop down list in the Smart Toolbar in the Report Gallery page.

• The current Analysis Grid worksheet: use the Active Universe drop down list in the Smart Toolbar in the Analysis page.

• A single column: go to the Columns tab in the Report Configuration window and add the Column you wish to filter with a saved Universe; Click the Edit option in the Selected Column box and start typing the saved Universe name or choose the name from the

drop down list in the ‘Filter column(s) by universe’ field at the bottom right corner of the Report Configuration window; Click the Ok button to apply the Universe to that column.

To see and review all of your saved Universes, as well as those provided by Strategic Insight and shared with you by others at your firm, navigate to the Universes tab. You can then find your saved Universe on the Universes tab.

Note: Applying a Universe will overwrite any other Filter criteria you may have defined.

Click on any component in the Dashboards to utilize the dynamic one-click filtering abilities for quick access to the data details you need.

ResearchAccess is now available to all of Strategic Insight’s core US Mutual Fund, ETF and Global Funds research through the new Simfund® Enterprise platform. Many research articles also come with companion Workbooks to allow you to explore the underlying data and tables referenced in the Research.

Simfund Enterprise Best Practices Quick Filter: Include Total Assets >0Use this in your Quick Filter criteria when reviewing the current state of the industry. Applying this criteria will help clean up your data results by excluding any liquidated funds. When looking at historical data, do not include this criteria, as it will introduce survivorship bias.

Quick Filter: Exclude Funds of FundsThe US Mutual Fund database does not automatically exclude funds-of-funds from your query unless you have applied the legacy Industry Analysis View or Manager Analysis View as a Universe. As such, when you are querying a particular aggregate set of data (for example all open-end funds) you will be double counting assets if you do not exclude Fund of Funds because certain underlying funds in a fund-of-fund may also be may also be counted twice. For this reason, you should select the “Fund of Funds” in your select query and choose the option of “Fund of Funds” IS (Not a Fund of Funds) to avoid double counting these assets in your Manager or Industry level queries.
