INTRODUCTION Thomson Reuters Eikon offers a suite of powerful, ready-to-use calculators for when you need to perform a fast market-standard valuation within your own customized Thomson Reuters Eikon display. After completing this workbook you should be able to:

Link a calculator to Eikon Excel ABOUT THIS WORKBOOK This workbook is designed to be used alongside Thomson Reuters Eikon. On the following pages you’ll find a series of exercises that will introduce you to the features and functions of the Flex environment.

Each exercise is marked with this icon, along with a summary of the exercise. Just follow the instructions in the left hand column to complete the exercise. Visuals are provided in the right hand column to guide you and to show you what your screen should look like.

BEFORE YOU START The Thomson Reuters Eikon Home Page displays the most relevant information based on your job role. Some of the examples in this workbook are based on a Home Page tailored for Fixed Income markets. If you want to follow our examples exactly then you should set your Home Page to display Fixed Income information.

1. Navigate to My Eikon My Profile. 2. Click the Edit link in the Professional Profile section. 3. Select Fixed Income Portfolio Manager from the list of Job Roles. 4. Click Save.

Your Home Page will update to display Fixed Income information.

OPENING CALCULATORS The Thomson Reuters Home page contains Quick Links to a number of calculators relevant to your job role.

Open calculators from your Thomson Reuters Eikon Homepage and using Search.

The Thomson Reuters Eikon Homepage contains a Quick Links section with links to popular calculators. In the screen at right, the Homepage is tailored for a Fixed Income job role, so the Calculators offered under Quick Links relate to Bonds and Fixed Income markets. Click on any of the links to open a calculator in a pop-up window. Try clicking on a calculator now. In our example, we’ll click on the Bond Calculator. The calculator will open in a pop-out window.

Let’s return to the Home Page.

Now we will use the Asset Classes menu to find calculators designed for Foreign Exchange Markets. Open the overview page for Foreign Exchange by clicking on the link in the Asset Classes menu at left.

Click on the Market Data and Tools tab to view a complete list of Foreign Exchange calculators.

You can change the currency using the dropdown menu, and the key data on the page will changes to match the currency. You can use the Market Data and Tools tab in any Asset Class overview page to find related Calculators.

You can also locate a calculator using search. Just type the name of the calculator you are looking for in the command line and press Enter.

For example, try typing Swap Points and Outrights calculator.

As you type, the AutoSuggest tool will return a list of possible matches, grouped by type. Click the calculator link to launch it.

To display a full list of available calculators, click the Main Menu icon, and click Calculator under the Apps menu. From here you can click any calculator name to launch it in a pop-up window.

OPENING WORKFLOW-SENSITIVE CALCULATORS You can access workflow-sensitive calculators from within a real-time browser.

Open the Swap Points and Outrights calculator from the Foreign Exchange Overview page.

To begin this exercise, go to the Foreign Exchange Overview page. (This page is accessible from the Asset Class menu on your Thomson Reuters Eikon Home page.) Then set your currency to the Euro.

In the EUR/USD FX Swaps title bar, click View Real-Time to open a pop-up Quote List.

The Related menu contains a list of tools and displays relevant to the financial instruments, including eight calculators. Select the Swap Points and Outrights calculator to open it in a pop-up.

Note that the calculator is ready-configured for Euro/Dollar spot rates.

ABOUT THE CALCULATOR WINDOW Although the different calculators contain different data fields, they all have the same toolbar.

Explore the Toolbar on a calculator window.

In this activity we’ll look at the tools offered on the standard calculator toolbar. In the example at right we’re looking at the Swap Points and Outrights calculator; but you can use any calculator to complete this activity. Using the toolbar buttons, you can:

Save your calculator

Print your calculator

Save an image of the calculator to use in another application

Export your calculations to Excel

Stop and start real-time updates

Refresh the updates Return all values to the defaults

You also maximise and minimize the calculator window, like any other window.

All fields shown in boxes can be modified.

Boxes with a yellow boarder indicate user input. Blue font indicates calculated values. White font indicates data inputs sourced from Thomson Reuters content. If you have any problems, click the help button to open a context-sensitive online help tool.

ABOUT THE SWAP POINTS AND OUTRIGHTS CALCULATOR The Swap Points and Outrights Calculator helps you price and analyze FX Forwards for standard periods, long or odd dates, and broken dates.

Calculate prices and forwards using the Swap Points and Outrights calculator.

If your Thomson Reuters Eikon Home page is tailored for a Foreign Exchange job role, click on Analyse Swap Points and Outrights to open the calculator in a pop-up.

Otherwise, to open the Swap Points and Outrights Calculator, enter SPO in the search box, and select the Swap Points and Outrights calculator from the list of suggested matches.

As with all calculators, you can change essential values in the editable fields. You can also change the currencies used in the calculator. Type EURCHF in the currency field to change this spot rate to Euro-SwissFranc.

The price source for the forward points of each currency against USD can be changed easily in the Forward Source dropdown. Open the Forward Source menu now, then select ICAP (Intercapital) Plc.

You can change the default settings for the calculator in the Calculation Parameters section. You may want to maximize this section now, and have a look at the options it offers.

To calculate swap-points for broken dates, scroll down to the bottom of the calculator. Use the End field to insert the duration (for example, three months) or a date. Try changing the second date on the list to 7/26/13. The calculator will revise the cross swap points and outrights to reflect your amendments.

ABOUT THE ALL QUOTES CALCULATOR The All Quotes Calculator gives you quick access to full market quote transparency on a given bond. It displays all price contributions in a logical list for all types of bonds from various trading platforms, brokers, and dealers. This makes it easy for bond trading and sales professionals to easily identify the market depth of a bond across the information available in Thomson Reuters Eikon.

Display Bond information using the All Quotes calculator.

To find and open the All Quotes calculator, type “All Quotes,” or enter the calculator code ALQB in the search box, and select the calculator from the list of matches.

To begin using the calculator, enter an instrument code directly into the command line and press Return. Try entering GB30YT=RR.

If you don’t know the instrument code, enter a name or a keyword, and click the Search icon. Let’s search for Italian Government bonds by using the keyword Italy.

The Advanced Search tool opens, and you can now choose your search criteria. Click Principal Currency. This will open a dialog. Select Euro, then click Add and OK.

Now click Country of Issue. Again, a dialog will appear. Select Italy and click Add then OK. Next, click Add Criteria.

Then select Debt type>Government Bond Type. Once you’ve done this, click Search.

Click Maturity Date to sort results so that the bonds closest to maturity appear at the top of the list. Click Next to view additional results pages.

Click a title to view the available bonds.

Click an instrument code to populate the calculator.

ABOUT THE DEPOSIT ANALYSIS CALCULATOR The Deposit Analysis Calculator calculates either synthetic deposit rates from swap points, or synthetic FX forwards from deposit rates, using real-time or user-defined data, and compares them to market rates. For example, if you have sterling to invest, you can swap that currency into Euros by selling the sterling spot, and buying it back at a forward date, thereby creating a synthetic euro deposit rate.

In this activity, you’ll use the Deposit Analysis Calculator to calculate deposit rates.

To open the Swap Pricer calculator, click the Main Menu icon. Then select Calculator. Choose the Deposit Analysis calculator from the list.

Alternatively, enter Depo analysis, or the quick search code for the calculator, DEAN, in the search box. Click on the calculator name in the auto-suggest results to open the calculator in a pop-up

To begin working, enter a currency into the calculator. In this example, we’re going to calculate synthetic deposits for the Euro. Enter EUR in the Target currency box.

Then enter USD in the Via currency box. The calculator refreshes to display real-time Euro swap points and Dollar deposits, and calculates Synthetic Deposits for the Euro.

USE THE FIXED RATE BOND CALCULATOR TO CALCULATE PRICE AND YIELD

The Fixed Rate Bond calculator allows you to analyze prices, yields and spreads of plain vanilla fixed rate bonds.

Calculate price and yield using the Fixed Rate Bond calculator.

You can access the bond calculator from anywhere in Thomson Reuters Eikon. In this activity, we’ll open the bond calculator by right clicking on a fixed rate bond in a Quote List. To begin, add a Quote List to an open Flex Document. Then add the code FR1MT=RR.

Right click on the Fixed Rate Bond, then open the Related>Fixed Rate Bond.

The calculator opens, and is automatically populated with your selected bond. The Clean Price is the latest market price on this bond, with no interest accrual. The interest accrued and accrual period are also displayed, as well as the gross price, which includes the interest.

Let’s calculate the yield based on a new quoted price. Click inside the clean price box and type the quoted price: 99. Press Enter. The Price/Yield Calculation adjusts to show the yield for the new price. Note that the price box has a yellow border, and the calculator has added a note that the price was input by a user. You can double-click inside the box to reset to the quoted real time price.

EMBED A CALCULATOR IN A FLEX DOCUMENT You can use a calculator in a pop-up window. But you may find it more convenient to embed the calculator in a Flex Document.

Create a new Flex Document, then embed the Swap Points and Outrights calculator in a Flex Document.

To begin this activity, click Add Calculator in a blank Flex frame.

A list of all available calculators will appear. Select Swap Points and Outrights.

The calculator is now embedded in the Flex Document. You can change currencies, dates, and values in the calculator’s editable fields to perform your analysis.

To view the full calculator you can toggle to

a full screen view by clicking the maximize

icon located at the top right of the frame.

POP IN A CALCULATOR If you already have a calculator or other item open, you can embed it in a Flex Document using the Pop in function.

Pop a calculator into a Flex Document.

To begin this activity, open the Swap Points and Outrights calculator using the Main Menu. Then open a new Flex Document. Select an empty Flex frame. Then click the Pop in button.

Indicate whether you want to pop the calculator into your open Flex Document, or into a new blank Flex. For this activity, select your open Flex Document.

The calculator automatically embeds in your Flex Document. You can change the position of the calculator in the Flex Document by clicking on it and dragging it into another frame.

LINK A QUOTE LIST TO A CALCULATOR In Thomson Reuters Eikon you can link a calculator to a real-time quote. For example, if you’re monitoring a list of bonds you can link the All Quotes calculator to a quote list to perform rapid analysis.

Link a Quote List to the bond calculator.

To begin this activity, create a blank 2-frame Flex Document. Insert a Quote List in one frame. When you add a quote list to a Flex document, you must either select an existing saved quote list, or create a new quote list. Click Create a new Quote List. Then name your list.

In the other frame, click Add Calculator. A list of all available calculators will appear. Select All Quotes from the list.

The next step is to type an instrument code into the Quote List. We’re going to use a list of Euro benchmark bonds. Type 0#EUBMK= in the first field in the Quote List. Then select European Government Bond Benchmark Curve from auto suggest.

Click the arrow next to the instrument code to display the entire list of constituents.

Now we’ll link the Quote List to the Calculator. Right-click in the Quote List. Then select Link to>Calculator>Advanced Link.

This dialog asks how you’d like the link to work. We’ll choose to make the link work when we double-click on an instrument. Make your choice, then click OK.

You’ve now linked the Quote List to the All Quotes. Try clicking on different items in your Quote List and notice how the calculator updates to reflect your selections.

LINKING CALCULATORS WITH EIKON EXCEL

Thomson Reuters Eikon Excel allows you to link a Calculator to an Excel worksheet in real time.

Link the Swap Points and Outrights calculator to Eikon Excel.

To begin this exercise, open Microsoft Excel, and then open the Swap Points and Outrights calculator in a Flex Document.

Then save the Flex Document. If the document is not saved, you will not be able to link it to an Excel worksheet.

Once saved, you can simply drag and drop the values from the Calculator into Eikon Excel to create the dynamic links. Select the values in the calculator now. Then drag then them into your Excel document.

This will create a link using the function =Rcalc.
