Getting Started With Adobe Photoshop CS3
• Pictures in photoshop are measured in inches or pixels
• Sizing is done using Image Size or Canvas Sizemeasured in inches or pixels.
• A pixel is one screen dot.

Adding text to the photo:• File > Open > Select Photo• File > Open > Select Photo• From the Tools Palette, click the text

colour in the Options Bar• Click on the photo and type the text

– On the Menu Bar Select Layer >On the Menu Bar, Select Layer > Layer Style > Bevel and Emboss and play around with different settings for desired texture

To add another layer:• On the Layers Manager, from the Menu
Bar at the bottom, add a new layer (it looks like a folded bit of paper) and name it ‘rectangle’: double click on the Layer # to renameto rename
• With the rectangle layer highlighted in the Layers Manager (click on it), on the Tools Palette select the Rectangular Marquee Tool ‘M’ icon
• With the mouse, draw a rectangle around the text
– If the colour in the Options Bar is a solid colour, the text will be hidden,
– If there’s no colour at all, provide one from the Menu, bottom of Layers Manager (1/2 filled circle)
• Solid Colour > Pick one > OK– On the Layers Manager, drag the
rectangle layer below the text layer and the text will be revealed

– From the Options Bar click on the Orientation Tool
– You may need to resize the text on the Options Bar to make it fit

Transform > Rotate or flip horizontally or vertically
• Click on Apply if you’re satisfied– Using the move took in the Tools
Palette, move the shape over to the text

• Esc on your keyboard will get you out of keystrokes made by mistake• If you find you haved lost a photo on the canvas, on the Menu Bar:
Window > Arrange > Cascade– Window > Arrange > Cascade
• If you change your mind or make a mistake you can also undo by selecting Edit on the Menu Bar > Undo OR Step backward
• On the Layers Manager, clicking on the eye will hide and show the layers you y g , g y y yare working on
