Power Supply To charge your laptop, plug the power supply

into the back of your machine and then into a wall outlet

Battery-power is limited and could result in a loss of data or work. Be careful by saving often!

When storing your charger, neatly wrap the cords around the charger and loosely secure with the elastic strap. Don’t pull too tightly or it could dislodge from the unit.

You should also know… Once you’ve logged in, there will be nothing on

your desktop. Programs should be accessed through the Start Menu and the Teachers Menu.

The Group Shared Drive is located at Start>Teachers Menu>Internal Drives.

Your USB Drives can also be accessed through Internal Drives.

To see all your drives, open your documents or Windows Explorer.

Page 40: Getting Started Wilkes County Schools Technology Department In Your SMART Classroom

You should also know… Your ITF keeps an updated technology

workspace for your convenience. It includes a great deal of information pertinent to you, the technology you use in your classroom, and the integration of technology with your students. It may be accessed through the following URL: http://billiejscott.weebly.com/

If you’d like to see an addition to this workspace, please let your ITF know!

Page 41: Getting Started Wilkes County Schools Technology Department In Your SMART Classroom

You should also know… All requests for technology services (including

questions you need to ask your ITF) should be submitted through this workspace using the form on the Request for Services page.

When requesting work on your computer, you’ll need to communicate the name of your computer. To access this see the login screen and click the drop down arrow beside of password.

The name will be 12 characters long and will look something like m315IL0_____.

Page 42: Getting Started Wilkes County Schools Technology Department In Your SMART Classroom

You should also know… Equipment should NEVER be moved to a

different location in the school. It is assigned to a room, not a user.

Printers are named by room number. You can change your own screen resolution.

1024 X 768 is best. Live Search will yield no returns in Internet

Explorer. Make sure your browser says Google in the upper-right corner.

Log off when you are finished with your computer.

Page 43: Getting Started Wilkes County Schools Technology Department In Your SMART Classroom

Troubleshooting Always reboot first. Try to Refresh Connections through the

Maintenance option in the Teacher’s Menu. Make sure your Wifi light is on. If it isn’t, try

sliding the wireless switch first. Desktop computers and printers don’t run

wirelessly. They must be plugged into a working network drop to connect. Check to see that there are lights on the back of the computer where the network cable is plugged in. If not, try a different wall port.

Make sure your students use the SMART Board daily!

Page 46: Getting Started Wilkes County Schools Technology Department In Your SMART Classroom

Putting it All Together! Set up your computer. Plug in the power supply and network

connection (optional). SMART Board Projector power supply should be plugged in. This

doesn’t have to be unplugged daily. Plug the cable hanging from the lower right corner of the SMART

Board into a USB port on your laptop (this allows your computer to “talk” to your Board).

Attach the VGA cable from the SMART Board Power Hub to the blue connection on the back of the laptop (this attaches your projector to your computer).

Attach the cable hanging from the speakers to a USB port on your laptop.

Make sure the power supply for your speakers is plugged in. Boot up your computer. Use the remote to turn on your SMART

Board.

Page 47: Getting Started Wilkes County Schools Technology Department In Your SMART Classroom

Also… Remember to turn off the projector when the

SMART Board is not in use. Conserve the life of your bulb by observing the 30 minute rule!

FN + F8 is your VERY best friend! Don’t forget it! This will force the feed of your computer image to your projector should it not show up automatically.
