Orientation week 24-28 February, 2014
Getting Started with orientation week Getting Started Orientation Week No matter what you’re into, you will find something to enjoy at orientation week – we really do have something for everyone. There are official events such as the Official Welcomes, academic, career and life skills workshops, and more informal social events such as the festival on the university main walkway. Orientation week is your chance to connect with the clubs, societies and support services that will be part of your life at UNSW.
Take advantage of as many opportunities during orientation week as possible. It’s a great way to start, or continue, your university journey.
Public TransportThe UNSW Kensington Campus is just 15 minutes by bus from Central Station, 30 minutes from Circular Quay and 20 minutes from Bondi Junction Station. For full transport information visit www.transport.unsw.edu.au
International StudentsStudent Development International offers a variety of facilities, services and programs designed to help international students settle in ahead of orientation week. These include the International Student Welcome Centre (John Goodsell Building) and the STEP UP orientation program. For full details visit www.student.unsw.edu.au/international
Event Registration
& Workshops
Professional Development Workshops & Seminars During orientation week many professional services run free workshops and seminars on academic, career and life skills to assist you with settling into university life.
Being a successful university student goes beyond buying your textbooks and turning up for your classes. You’ll need to manage your time effectively, develop techniques to handle stress, develop strong academic arguments, and maybe think about a part-time job or a future career after graduation.
Check out the schedule and make time to attend workshops and seminars during orientation that will help you out in these areas and more. Additional sessions will be run throughout Semester 1. Keep an eye on the Getting Started website for regular session updates. www.gettingstarted.unsw.edu.au
Event Registration & WorkshopsMost orientation week events require registration as many are popular and fill up quickly.
You will need to enrol and use your UniPass to register and create your personalised orientation week timetable.
Events listed in this guide were correct at time of printing but are subject to change; please visit the Getting Started website for current event information and registration.
Some sessions are suited to certain cohorts of students (e.g. international or postgraduate). Please read the event description when you register.
Remember to get your UniPass and login ID so you can register for sessions at www.gettingstarted.unsw.edu.au

MORE INFO
It may seem like one giant leap, but we want to help you reach for the stars from your first day at UNSW.
Orientation Week (O-Week) is the gateway to getting started at UNSW. In 2014, our Yellow Shirt volunteers will help guide you on your personal gravity-defying experience: launch your academic mission with faculty welcomes and skills workshops, venture on an exploratory tour around campus, rocket out at social events and parties – all in one explosive week!
@ UNSWSay ‘hello’ to your student organisation, here to show you that there's much more to life at UNSW than textbooks and assignments. If O-Week is your gateway to UNSW, then Arc is the galaxy of student life outside the classroom and the fuel empowering you to go wherever you choose within it. Whether you're looking to attend events or parties, join a club, play social sport, compete at uni games, volunteer or apply for paid internships, Arc has you covered. It’s free to join and you get access to a whole heap of services, programs and opportunities, plus loads of great student discounts both on and off campus.
MEET YOUR YELLOW SHIRTSYellow Shirts is a student volunteer group who organise and run UNSW’s widely recognised Orientation Week. Coming from all faculties and backgrounds, the Yellow Shirts answer all of your questions and offer insider hints and tips. They are trained on all aspects of the campus, services and student life. Most importantly, they’re also there to be a friendly face on campus to chat with and help you meet other students!
Check out the website to see the full schedule and plan your week in advance, grab a daily flyer and your souvenir copy of Blitz Magazine when you get to campus for all the details you need!
