This Getting Started Guide will help you prepare for your time at University.Please read all of the sections carefully as they contain important informationabout your arrival at Edge Hill. Enrolment is a mandatory process that you must go through at the beginning ofthe year to become a member of the University, activate your IT/Library accountand benefit from all its services.

The enrolment process for new part-time undergraduate students consistsof one stage which requires you to attend in person to fully enrol andprovide the University with proof of your identification. Visitedgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/part-time to see your enrolment timetable,and you should refer to page 5 to find out what documents you need to bringwith you.

The enrolment process for new full-time undergraduate students consistsof two stages. The first stage is an online enrolment process for which you canfind details below, followed by stage two which requires you to attend in personto fully enrol and provide the University with proof of your identity.

1. To access the online enrolment system, please follow the instructions provided in the letter that was posted to you with this guide.

2. The first screen will show your basic information, personal details and programme information. Click on ‘Next’. If any of the information on this page is incorrect, please get in touch with the Enrolment Team by calling 01695 657600 or emailing [email protected].

3. The next screen you will be asked to supply a home address and a term address if different from your home address. Enter your details and click on ‘Next’.

4. The next screen will ask you to supply the details of at least one emergency contact. Click on ‘Add New’ to enter the details. To move to the next screen click ‘Next’

5. This screen is used to collect additional information and there is a drop-down menu for each question. When you have completed this page click on ‘Next’.

6. The next screen will ask you to upload a photograph of yourself, which will be used on your Unicard. Uploading a photograph is strongly advised as it will reduce the time it takes to finalise your enrolment at stage two. Please read all the details shown on the screen to ensure your photograph is within the guidelines. Please visit edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/unicard-photofor more detailed information on how to upload a photograph. Please note that it will be easier if you have the photograph ready before you begin the online enrolment process, and once you submit your photograph you will not be able to edit it.

7. The next screen allows you to review the information you have entered. You can amend the details using the ‘Previous’ button, and press ‘Submit’ when you have finished.

8. Finally, you will be asked to read and accept the Terms and Conditions of Edge Hill University. You will be asked to read the Student Data Collection Notice and tick to accept responsibility for the payment of your tuition fees.

Stage one of enrolment is now complete. You will now receive an email whichwill go to your Edge Hill email account this will contain details of stage two ofenrolment. This can be accessed via ‘GO’ on the web link: go.edgehill.ac.uk/mail.

Check your Enrolment TimetableYour timetable for stage two of enrolment is available now atedgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted. Select your course from the drop-downmenu and click on ‘Enrolment’ to view your timetable.

Now is the time to make sure that all your loans and grants are in place for yourstudies. This will ensure that you receive your funding on time and yourtransition to University life runs smoothly.

Applying for student financeIf you have not yet applied for student finance, you should apply online atwww.gov.uk/student-finance this should be done as soon as possible.Evidence of your application/assessment will be required when you enrol oncourse.

Assessment of Funding Once you have completed your application you will receive an assessment of thefunding available to you. This can take some time to process and you shouldcheck on the progress of your application. Please ensure that all of your detailsare correct, this includes:

• The University you will be studying at• The course you will be studying• The tuition fee for your course.

Return your DeclarationIf you applied online, you will receive a ‘Declaration’ form from Student Financein the post. You need to return your signed Declaration as soon as possible inorder to make sure your funding is released to you following enrolment.

When will I receive my funding?After you have completed your enrolment in full, your student funding will bereleased. It can take up to five working days for payment to arrive in youraccount, or longer, if you applied for funding late. But remember, this will onlybe paid if your signed Declaration has been returned to Student Finance.

Please ensure that you bring your University/College Payment advice (containedin the pack you receive from Student Finance) with you when you enrol. Thiscontains your Student Support Number, which the University needs to identifyyou with the Student Loans Company.

NHS Funded StudentsMust apply for an NHS bursary to cover their tuition fees and anygrants/allowances. Please visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/students. You mustbring a copy of your ‘NHS Notification of Award to enrolment.

ScholarshipsThere are a range of Edge Hill Scholarships available which reward excellenceoutside your studies or make a contribution to the University. Please view ourwebsite edgehill.ac.uk/scholarships.

If you have received a place in our on-campus halls of residence, there are a fewthings you need to take care of before you can move in. Getting the paperworkand financial arrangements out of the way before you arrive will make yourWelcome Sunday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

You should have received an email from our Accommodation Team to confirmyour room and provide you with your Licence Agreement. You must sign yourLicence Agreement and return it to the Accommodation Office as soonas possible to confirm your room. You will also need to pay your £150 depositto secure your room and make arrangements to pay for your accommodationbefore Welcome Sunday, otherwise your room key will not be issued.

You can move into halls on Sunday 21 September 2014, or Welcome Sundayas we call it. You’ll find more information about arrival arrangements for thisday on page 16 but you should put the date in your calendar in the meantime.

Starting University is an exciting time. First Week is all about settling into youracademic and social environment, meeting your tutors, making friends andgenerally finding your way around. As well as providing an introduction to yourcourse, there will be opportunities to find out how to make best use of the Libraryand IT systems, and the full range of student support services available to you.

First Week runs from Monday 22 to Friday 26 September 2014.

Your Faculty will organise your First Week programme for your course. FirstWeek is a living and learning experience and comprises a series of activities towelcome you to the University and to introduce you to your academic life. Pleasenote that First Week is compulsory for all students and the most important thingis that you participate fully and have a good time. You are required to attend allyour course-based sessions, but which social activities you choose, is up to you.

Welcome Sunday is our designated day for residential students to arriveon campus, enrol and move into accommodation. It’s a very busy day on campusso, to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible, please follow the instructionsoutlined in this section.

Arriving at Edge HillOnce you arrive at Edge Hill, you will be able to complete stage two of enrolmentfor your programme and collect the keys to your accommodation before settlinginto your new home and meeting your flatmates.

Welcome Sunday takes place on Sunday 21 September 2014. Unfortunately,you are not able to arrive on campus any earlier than this date. If you are unableto arrive until after 4.00pm on Welcome Sunday or not until the following week,please contact the Accommodation Team on:[email protected] for advice.

In order to reduce congestion, we have staggered student arrival timesalphabetically by surname. Please try and keep to your scheduled arrivaltime as much as possible to avoid congestion on the day.

Travelling to Welcome SundayWhether you are travelling to Welcome Sunday by car or public transport, thereare arrangements in place to make the move as easy as possible.

Arriving by Car

Please note, car parking on campus is limited.

On Welcome Sunday you may bring one car on campus (no vans please) andyou will be directed to a parking space. To avoid traffic congestion, there is amaximum 2 hour time limit on parking to allow you to unload your car andunpack.

After this time we request that you move your car to allow other students theopportunity to park and move in. You will be directed to alternative parking innearby Ormskirk town centre and there is a free bus service from Ormskirk BusStation to and from the University, running every 15 minutes from 7.30am until6.30pm.

Please note that Yellow AA™ road signage will be displayed on theapproach to the campus. Please follow these directional signs to thedesignated entrance for your halls, as GPS systems may lead you tothe incorrect entrance point.

What happens next?Once you have parked, you must leave your belongings in the car, andmake your way to the Faculty of Health and Social Care on foot to completeyour enrolment process and collect your room key.

When you have completed this process you will be issued with your ‘Unicard’(your Edge Hill student ID card) and you will be directed back to unload yourcar and move into halls.

Arriving by Public TransportYou can find out more about arriving at Edge Hill by public transport, includingdirections for bus or rail travel at edgehill.ac.uk/location. Please see themap of Ormskirk town centre at edgehill.ac.uk/getting started under the‘Arrivals’ tab. and our Campus Map at the back of this booklet to find outwhere you will need to travel on and off campus.

On Welcome Sunday, our free Edge Link bus runs from Ormskirk Bus Stationto the University every 15 minutes from 7.30am until 6.30pm. The Edge Linkbus will drop you off near the main entrance to the University. From here, youshould make your way to the Senior Common Room in the Main Buildingwhere there is a secure luggage facility for students arriving by public transport.You are able to leave your bags in this safe spot while you enrol and collect yourroom keys.

After dropping off your bags, you must then make your way to the Faculty ofHealth and Social Care to complete your enrolment and key collection. Onceyou have completed your enrolment, you will be directed back to the SeniorCommon Room to collect your belongings and move into your new home.

Enrolment for residential students on Welcome Sunday 21 SeptemberThe enrolment process for new full-time undergraduate studentsconsists of two stages. The first stage is the online enrolment process whichshould be completed seven fays before you attend Stage Two (please see page 4for more details). This is followed by stage two which you will complete in personon Welcome Sunday to fully enrol and provide the University with proof of youridentity (see page 5). You are required to complete stage two of the enrolmentprocess at the time specified on your enrolment timetable which can be foundat edgehill.ac.uk/getingstarted. Please note, you will not be fullyenrolled until you have completed both stages of enrolment.

Please note more information regarding stage one of the enrolment process willbe sent to all new full-time undergraduate students in early September or at thepoint a students’ offer status become unconditional, if this is later.

Accommodation FeesThere are a few things you need to take care of before you can collect your keys.

You must pay your £150 deposit in full and either set up a payment plan for youraccommodation fees or pay in full before arrival on Welcome Sunday.Otherwise, the Accommodation Team will be unable to issue you with yourroom key.

To make your payment or set up your recurring card payment using aVisa/Mastercard® debit or credit card visit edgehill.ac.uk/payments. You canpay in one of three ways:

• In full, with a 5% discount if you pay the full amount before you collect your key• In three instalments (per term)*• In seven instalments (monthly)

*Most students pay in this way as it coincides with student loan payments.

Paying in instalmentsThe total balance for the duration of your Licence Agreement (40 weeks oragreed fixed term), is divided into three or seven equal instalments and must bepaid by recurring card payments on the listed dates.

Moving inOnce you have completed your enrolment and key collection, you will be directedback to your car or the Senior Common Room to collect your belongings andmove into your new accommodation.

Due to car parking limitations, your car must remain in yourdesignated car park. It is not possible to move it closer to your Hallsof Residence to drop off your belongings.

Meet staff within your DepartmentOnce you have collected your room key and moved your belongings in, you mustattend your compulsory meeting with staff from your programme area, in theBusiness School, between 2.00pm and 5.00pm. This is a great way tomeet your tutors and fellow students on your programme and to pick up a copyof your First Week timetable.

There will also be an opportunity during this time to meet the Inclusion team inthe Business School. The team can provide advice on Disabled StudentsAllowance (DSA), Learning Facilitators, reasonable adjustments, examinationmodifications and alternative assessments, adapted rooms on campus and rightsand responsibilities.

Hall Welcome TalksOnce you have settled in and said goodbye to your friends and family, you mustattend your compulsory Hall Welcome Talk. This will give you an introductionto your new home, campus facilities and the rules and regulations for studentsliving on campus.

It is essential that you attend your Hall Talk, details of which can be found onthe following page.

Important: You are advised to pack your belongings in crates andsuitcases with wheels and to avoid packing large heavy boxes that you willfind difficult to carry. There is a limited supply of trolleys and buggiesavailable to help you transport your belongings. Please speak to a memberof staff for assistance.

Please note that you may be required to walk some distance from the carpark to your halls of residence. If you require assistance or have mobilityrequirements please contact [email protected] or 01695584455 for advice. When you arrive please go to the nearest WelcomePoint, where staff will arrange transport for you.

What happens when I arrive and where do I collect my keys?Once you have parked, you must leave your belongings in the car, or if you aretravelling by public transport, in the Staff Common Room. Please follow directionsto the Faculty of Health and Social Care to complete your enrolment/keycollection process.

When you have completed this process you will be issued with your ‘Unicard’(student ID card) and you will be directed back to unload your car, or collectyour belongings and move in.

Is there anywhere that my family can wait while I enrol?Yes, there will be a Family Area in the Faculty of Health and Social Carewith complimentary tea or coffee and newspapers. Your family are welcome touse this as a meeting point during the day or somewhere to relax.

What should I do if there is a problem with my room?If there is an issue with your room please contact the FM Helpdesk on 01695584455. The FM Helpdesk will be available throughout the day, and duringyour time at University.

Your enrolment timetable is available now at edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted.Select your course and go to the ‘Enrolment’ tab. Please note the enrolmentprocess for new full-time undergraduate students consists of twostages. The first stage is the online process, which is followed by stage two whichrequires you to attend in person at the time specified in your enrolmenttimetable. Students should complete the online process at least seven days priorto the time specified in your enrolment timetable.

All students are required to provide proof of identification at enrolment asspecified on page 5 of this booklet.

AdmissionsIf you have met all the academic conditions of your offer, your offer status willshow as Unconditional (UF) on UCAS, giving you the green light for enrolment.However, if you still have outstanding conditions to meet you can find furtherinformation on your next steps below.

All students:If there are other outstanding conditions associated with your offer of a place,such as medical or DBS clearance, you will be able to provisionally enrol andyou should attend your enrolment session and other First Week activities asindicated. However, you will be expected to meet any outstanding requirementspromptly and you could be withdrawn from your course if these conditions arenot satisfied as soon as possible. You will also be unable to undertake anyplacement activity without medical or DBS clearance.

Clearing Students:If you have been made an offer through Clearing you should carefully read theinstructions you have received from Admissions and ensure that you complywith any conditions or deadlines set. Failure to do so could mean that you willbe unable to enrol.

Meet staff within your Department(Applicable to enrolments on Thursday 18 September only)Once you have enrolled, you must attend your compulsorymeeting with stafffrom your programme area, in the Business School. This is a great way to meetyour tutors and fellow students on your programme and to pick up a copy ofyour First Week timetable.

Sustainable TravelEdge Hill University encourages staff, students and visitors to travel here bysustainable means wherever possible and has developed a Travel Plan to includevarious sustainable travel initiatives.

The University provides a free shuttle bus to link the campus to Ormskirk towncentre, where other public transport options are available. For furtherinformation please visit edgehill.ac.uk/travel.

Parking PermitsParking is limited at Edge Hill University and only available to parking permitholders. Eligibility criteria applies for all parking permit applications and fulldetails are available in our Car Parking Policy at: edgehill.ac.uk/travel.

If you are a student coming to study at Edge Hill for the first time, you will needto formally enrol on your course and receive your student number before youcan apply for your official permit. Prior to your enrolment day, you will besupplied with a temporary parking permit to allow you access to the campus tocomplete your enrolment. Following enrolment you will be directed to apply foryour parking permit online.

If you are eligible, a blue student parking permit will be provided which willallow you to park in the Blue Zone i.e. the main car park. Other car parks arereserved for staff and visitors.

Residential students are not permitted to keep their cars on campus unlessstudying on a course which requires them to undertake a placement.

PostThe University has a dedicated post room on-site which handles all internal andexternal mail, around 800,000 items of post per year.

We provide a student mail delivery service to the mail boxes located in all Hallsof Residence. We also provide a parcel collection service where students arenotified of a delivery via email.

The Post Room is located in The Durning Centre and is open for parcelcollections at the following times: Monday to Thursday: 8.00am – 10.00am,12.00pm – 1.00pm and 5.00pm – 8.00pm. Friday: 8.00am – 10.00am and12.00pm – 1.00pm.

LaunderetteOur on-site launderette houses nineteen automatic washing machines andtwenty dryers. The opening times are 7.30am to 9.00pm every day, with the lastwash being at 8.00pm.

CateringWhether it’s a quick coffee and a catch up, lunch between lectures or a late nighttreat, you are sure to find just what your taste buds are looking for from our wideselection of on-site coffee bars, cafés, diner and restaurant.

All dining outlets at Edge Hill University have social spaces in which to eat andstudy as well as free wireless internet access.

If you are living on campus you can also take advantage of the meal plan scheme,or if you are self-catering, the University shops stock all essential items you couldneed.

RetailThere is an on-site McColls convenience store and the University Shop, both ofwhich sell food, drink, stationery and household items to cater for our residentialstudents.

Edge Link BusThe University operates the free Edge Link bus service between the Campus andOrmskirk bus station every twenty minutes from 8.05am until 8.56pm, Mondayto Friday excluding Bank Holidays, and 8.05am until 5.56pm on Saturdays. Theservice is free on production on a valid Unicard.

Parking on campusThe University recognises the need to reduce pollution and congestion byminimising the reliance on cars and promoting the benefits of sustainable travel.Residential students are not permitted to bring cars on campus unless this isnecessary during placement activities, and commuting students are advised touse public transport whenever possible.

If you do need to use your car, a valid permit must be displayed to park. You willbe able to seek advice and apply for a permit during First Week.
